Translated to City of Great Education, Mahasarakham is in the Northeast of Thailand, an area known as Isaan. This is a great place to visit if wanting to experience a part of Thai culture, have access to a few countries, or take part in studies. With seven institutes of higher education, a pulsing population of students and teachers dominates the masses. Reaching the city can be done from the Morchit Northeastern Bus Terminal
Whether you are a student or not, a trip to the Maha Sarakham University
is well worth the time as its modern campus features an outdoor museum designed in a traditional Isaan style as well as a small zoo. The older campus near the downtown area has the Museum of Northeastern Culture. Wang Ma Cha is an attractive park that makes for a relaxing day out, and Prathat Na Dune houses a relic of Buddha and is surrounded by a large park and near a replica of an ancient Isaan village. More cultural experiences can be had at Pottery Village and Silk Village.
