Paradise Island Resort and Spa
North Male Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"The first place that I have been on holiday where the views are the same as the photos you see advertising the hotel. White sands, aqua blue seas and a real tropical island paradise. Of course Paradise has a price tag and it’s pretty hefty but then you must remember that living on an island is not cheap. Generation of electricity, desalination of water removal of waste by boat, hotel staff living on island as well etc all have to be paid for. We went bed and breakfast and so paid for evening meals at the restaurants at the hotel where you should allow GBP200 per night for a family of four. Think of it as eating in a top restaurant but located in the Maldives. Oddly enough, whilst the food is expensive the alocohol is relatively good value. USD 5 for a beer, USD 7 for a glass of wine and so on. Everything is priced in USD at the hotel and best to bring a big pile of cash to avoid additional credit card charges. The water sports are also quite expensive. It was USD 80 for 1 hour on the trimaran, USD 60 for 10 Mins on the towable inflatable and 55 USD each for a half day island hopping tour. Avoid the island hopping tour as it is just an excuse for the boat people to take you to a local island and gift shop where they try to sell you expensive souvenirs. Although I don’t think badly of anyone for trying to do this as life is tough for a local living in the Maldives and they have to make their way in life some how. I found the hotel staff friendly and helpful and the beaches and sea are second to none- superb. The accommodation is a little tired and needing maintenance. All in all an excellent holiday and worth the money we paid although expensive "

Bandos Maldives
North Male Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"Just returned from 9 days at this island resort. This is a very well run efficient resort. We did not have all inclusive as we prefer to eat in the other 4 restaurants. The staff here are delightful, very helpful and friendly. We did a few excursions, Manta ray snorkel where we saw lots of Mantas, another snorkel trip and the sunset dolphin cruise. Drinks are very expensive as they are on all the Maldive islands. The house reef is spectacular, lots of sea life including black tip reef sharks and sting rays and lots of colourful fish. The sea is turquoise warm and clear. Would definitely recommend."

Summer Island Maldives
North Male Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"My boyfriend and I spent 4 nights in the water villa, and Summer Island was incredibly accommodating. From the moment we arrived, to the last hours of our stay, it was pure relaxation! Highlights: all-inclusive water villa option is the best for your money in the Maldives! We didn't have to think about where to eat or how much it cost. And the menus were changed daily. The room itself was spacious and even better than the online photos! On top of that, every staff member on the island greeted you with a smile and provided excellent service. The one negative, is the Turtle snorkeling service was not up to Summer Island standard. The German instructor did not introduce himself and my boyfriend thew up during the boat ride which he ignored completely. The crew however, were very helpful and sympathetic. Lastly, this snorkeling trip was not free, as we had been lead to believe. Overall, thanks Summer Island for the vacation of a lifetime! We hope to return in the future!"

Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa
South Ari Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"Staff: Unfortunately, there is a difference in quality by the person. And, they are all friendly but no like such as luxury hotel. Rooms: It may be lower as compared with the luxury resort hotels, but completely cleaning and it has is canopy bed. large LCD, refrigeater , complimentary amenities , and bathroom are also satisfactionable. There is no dissatisfaction even married couples to spend. Room feel dark in the daytime becaouse lighting equipment are few in the room. But, you should think this is a message from the hotel that please go and play outside. Dining: There is no clear theme settings for each day, but the Chinese, American, Japanese, or such as maldivian style was seen. There is not the same menu comes out in one week, but I felt it getting little bored or tired by little variation seasoned. Ofcourse, Meal delicious enough, service and interior are more than enough, but felt some different from of the luxury resort. please note This impression based on avarage japanese food culture. so you may feel significantly different impression by your food culture. Guests: Some honeymooner in this island, but most guests are couple (not on honeymoon, just holiday),family, and Diver. and many guest are from europa, especialy UK, DE ,ES, CH are lot. also some guests from CH and KR are visitng, but not so many. we never seen other japanese. Pest: unfortunately, many mosquito in this is island. (I have never saw such a many mosquito at other maldives island) but I did not seen any other pest. Beach: It is not a style to eliminate thoroughly twigs and fallen leaves, and seaweed, They are not suitable for those who are interested in pure white beach. I thought that animals such as crabs and hermit crabs minutes like a lot. Pool: There are two ppols : garden pool and infinity pool. Both pools has pool side bar. Infinity pool Located in the adults ony area, and we can feel of luxury in moderation quiet. Garden pool has also two pools , for adults and "

Furaveri Maldives
Raa Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"On our first visit to the Maldives, Furaveri far and away exceeded our expectations. In just a short week, the staff got to know us and anticipated the little things we liked without ever being pushy or intrusive. A special shout out to Salaam at the restaurant, who seemed to make every one of our meals that much more special. The grounds were immaculate, from our pool villa to the beach that encircles the small island. Spa services were reasonably priced yet exceptional. We can’t say enough. We had always planned to revisit the Maldives several times and stay at many resorts, but it will be hard to pass up Furaveri when we know it’s such a sure bet. Particularly impressive was the fact that they’re a year old, so I expect the staff only to continue to impress. The only suggestion we’d make is to continue to expand vegetarian options at the restaurant, as they can get repetitive over the course of a week. All in all, Furaveri gave us a world-class honeymoon, and we’re truly grateful."

Kuramathi Maldives
Alifu Alifu Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and, to be fair, this was our first and only time at the Maldives. Having said that, we did do an extensive research of all of the avaialble resorts at the Maldives and we have narrowed down the list to about 4. Kuramathi prevailed as being the one with best value-for-money as we were seeking an overwater villa. When we arrived, the island did not disappoint as we were treated by the staff as if we were royalty. Our room was very nice and I still cannot get over the memories of being able to snorkel right outside of our room's veranda. The food was great although it had a very distinctive Indian flare to it everytime - I'm not going to categorize this as either good or bad as this would depend upon your taste. "

Sun Siyam Olhuveli
South Male Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"I'm very particular about place I stay and as usual, I went through every hotel listed in Agoda that falls under my budget (USD 200 per night). After comparing review rating from different websites, comparing actual price including transfer charge, checking out official website and going through numerous user photos, I decided to book this resort - Deluxe Room as total cost was comparatively affordable (low room charge balances out high transfer charge) for the quality of resort and available facilities provided. While I was excited about variety of dining option & facilities, I was skeptical about the room as it didn't seem so modern & bright in the pictures. But I wasn't left with any other option that meets all my needs. It turns out I worried for nothing. 1) Transfer process happened smoothly 2) Room was neat & clean & cool 3) Enough activities were offered among which I chose beginner's scuba diving course for the cost of USD 480 / 2 persons 4) Great beaches & relaxing sunbeds - One side of the island is lively with enough of reefs & waves - The other side of the island is deadly quiet and lets you swim or read with peace of mind 5) Good food & beverage (must try seafood pizza & classic mojito) 6) Great ambience of different themed dining areas 7) Last but not the least, great and friendly staffs that make you smile till the moment of departure If I must list out bads : 1) Island is a bit far (45 minutes) from the airport 2) Transfer charge was more expensive than what was mentioned in Agoda (which I expected) 3) Goods being sold in shops are pretty expensive (USD 40 for a sunscreen lotion, which I also expected out of every Maldives resort) 4) Bathroom was smelling like urine (this can be actual improvement point that hotel should look into) So overall, I'm very very satified and I had heavenly time at this place. Thanks for helping me making flawlessly dreamy vacation!!! * Note : Deluxe Plus Rooms are same as Deluxe Rooms but built newly. "

Fihalhohi Island Resort
South Male Atoll,Maldives Islands - View on map
"We stayed here for 3 days. We reached at Island around 10 AM and just after check in they gave us our room (we were expecting to wait till noon as we reached early). We have booked half board and they upgraded it to Full Board, we were really happy for this offer. In Maldives everything is expensive where we got this offer and it was amazing. Food quality is speechless, so delicious and all meals were fantastic. belal and Farukh two person was very nice, actually they are cheff and remain inside the dinning hall. They always asked us to have more and more food. Staffs were always with a smiley face, Mahmudee used to work in our table . The island is small, it takes around 30 minutes to walk around the island. Rooms were large with nice big balcony. Toilet was nice with all toiletries. After dinner we used to enjoy wind and playing of fishes at jetty area. However, be very careful about bottle water, it cost $4.30. They provide only 2 bottle water (500ml) only at first day. So, better If you have time buy bottle water from Male/airport area. Same for sim card, Buy it from airport otherwise it will cost more. Transfer charge is $130 per person. Souvenir shop's price seems to be more but if you are not exploring local market at Male then purchase from here because it does not differ much with Airport area. Overall, the resort is wonderful with all facilities. We will be looking forward to come back again. "

Traveler impressions of Maldives Islands

More about Maldives Islands

In the Indian Ocean, a thousand pieces of paradise are scattered about in a collection of islets known as the Maldives Islands. Only 200 of them are inhabited, leaving the rest in pristine, natural condition. Coral reefs, warm waters, and white sand accommodate enchanting marine life and set the mood for either a romantic getaway or family holiday.

Leisure and recreation are the highlights here with the abundance of diving and snorkeling opportunities. Ship wrecks can be explored at such sites as The Ship Yard and the Halaveli Wreck. The Aquarium is a dive site visited as a day trip and is excellent for exploring marine life. Coral, young fish, turtles, and even manta rays in the rainy season can all be seen here. Fish Head is natural and very much alive in terms of sea life thanks to strict regulations that disallow fishing, anchoring, or even the collecting of shells and coral.

Accommodation in the Maldives Islands can be accessed solely by domestic flights or by speed boat. With resorts spread throughout the archipelago, flights by seaplane can take up to 45 minutes from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport. Be sure to check out the interactive map of Maldives Islands for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
