Section 8 were this hotel was located well we drove there it is a typical dirty port city graffiti every were driving was difficult not our cup of tea at all we stayed the night and left the next day So our comment is not totally fair but the city did not impress us at all the other hotel recommended a Chinese restaurant around the corner from the novetel and that was good standard
Marseille is a very underrated city. The people are just as cultured as any French person but they have such a laid back way of life in Marseille that it is a much needed change from Parisians.
Not many people speak English so that can be hard but people are keen to try and are very friendly. I was lucky enough to have a friend to explore with but its quite safe for the most part to wander around during the day.
A vibrant and fascinating city by the mediteranian sea. If you are looking for dipping in the sea or simply basking in the sun mix with gastronomy adventure and some arts, then look no more.
This is THE place!
Marseille is very large with many areas to discover. From seaside, beaches to real city life. You can move around with the velo system and the bus and boat systems for longer destinations.
You can visit the Panier, very interesting, shop in the Canebiere, browse in the Arabian part, go to the beach close to the city, stay in a little harbor and have a great seafood lunch or enjoy the nightlife near the port of Marseille.
It is better that you have to visit the tourist office before do anything, because there have some tours can join but which is not available everyday.
it is an authentic city that the renovation and opening of new cultural sites such as the MuCEM really changed the scale and the face of the city.
good: the sea area, the "Vieux Port" bad: the arriving in the city (by car or by train). Really not welcoming, could be even scary for some
We loved marseille. The location is great right on the Mediterranean Sea. There is plenty to see and do and it is a lively, lovely place.
Idl If is a great place even though you never read the book related to that.I never read after all. And it's not so unsafe as others said.
Because I and my mother walked round and round in the mid night and nobody attacked us. It was a nightmare, but we're really lucky!
The city is very beautiful and the sights are really worth the time. The people are friendly (at least those we've met) and helpful.
There are some negatives though like cleanliness but I guess its all a part of big city surroundings. All in all its not a dirty place nor a really clean place but it was worth my wife and mine's time and we were very satisfied with our stay.
Don't hanging around the train station as a bit dangerous. Local restaurants usually serve a great seafood with reasonable prices.
People are quite friendly in Marseille.
Our time was limited, we found we would have enjoyed more time to explore the interesting history of this port city.
It is a very relaxing place and people is so nice there. And you should try peach there, it's very juicy and sweet!
Inyteresting port city.Great for walking and sightseeing. Lots of good eating establishments of all types.
