The highlight was a delicious meal in a friendly family owned restaurant, The old mountaineer's Cafe.
Our Japanese guests loved their meals and while there, the owners arrived. We had enjoyed reading some of the history of the Cafe and the area, through the books and photographs available. The owners kindly met with us, took photos, and were very warm-hearted.
Mount Cook is an excellent lodging area with breathtaking views completely surrounded by mountain ranges.
Lake Tekapo and Pitaki are two of the most beautiful lakes you will ever see with clear, turquoise water. Simply spectacular. Hiking here and the glacier activities on the lake are a must do.
It was definitely cold when we were there but still comfortable when doing the hikes. I would love to go back in the summer, but that would mean a lot more tourists.
Consider doing the helicopter tour because it is spectacular and better sights, in my opinion, than some of the other town's heli tours.
