Sahara Star Hotel
Vile Parle,Mumbai - View on map
"I checked agoda and was looking for a hotel last moment as my bus was cancelled. I found this hotel and from the photos it looked good. Agoda gave me instant confirmation. On reaching the hotel, the reception was quite standard but on entering the area restricted to residents - it was an out of the world experience. the architecture is wonderful. it is so peaceful inside, you will never believe you are in mumbai. instantaneously, tiredness left and i decided on having a meal, visiting the spa, etc. A must stay for a different experience of a mumbai hotel"

The Leela Mumbai
Andheri East,Mumbai - View on map
"The Leela is my preferred transit hotel in Mumbai. It is located a mere 5 mins drive from the international airport. The rooms are smartly designed with spacious bathrooms and other amenities. The Indian touches are everywhere and this distinguishes Leela from the other hotels in the same class. The restaurants are excellent. I always look forward to the breakfast at Citrus, especially the South Indian preparations such as idli-sambar and masala dosa. The staff is earnest and performance has improved in recent times. If you have business to conduct anywhere close to the international airport, this is the hotel to be in. Or if you have an international flight to catch at one of those ungodly hours, stay at Leela makes it comfortable and convenient."

Hotel Kohinoor Continental
Andheri East,Mumbai - View on map
"I arrived at Mumbai airport on 15 May morning and was waiting for the airport pickup. 10 minutes later and still no hotel rep, thought there might have been a mixup and called Kohinoor Continental Hotel. Was attended to by Ms Suprriya who confirmed my reservation, but turned out I booked for 15-17 July instead! Looked at my voucher and realised my blunder, and told her about my error and I was already in Mumbai airport. Ms Suprriya asked me to give her 2 minutes. 2 minutes later, she called my Singapore number and said that a driver will arrive in 10-15 minutes time. Driver arrived punctually and fetched me to the hotel. Hotel is conveniently located close to the airport. Situated along main road, she blended in with the ongoing construction works nearby. Nevertheless, once inside, it's decent and presentable. Check-in counter was briefed by Ms Suprriya and was willing to honour the booking for 15-17 May, but requested that I contact Agoda about the change in dates with new voucher. Called Agoda Singapore who obliged after getting consensus from hotel rep (thanks Agoda, in particular Jason). Hotel rep said to simply forward revised voucher to reservations. Check-in was thus successful, and many thanks to Hotel Kohinoor Continental, in particular Ms Suprriya for making this pleasant. Had a Superior Room which was very clean with pleasant smell. Wooden flooring gave that "homely" feeling. I would say this is similar to most superior rooms in 3–4 star hotels across Asia, neither big nor small, but just sufficient for a business traveller who needs proper work desk, reliable wifi, comfortable and clean bed, functioning bathroom (in this case shower only). Being a breakfast person, I'd consider the buffet spread standard and reasonable, catering to western and Indian palate. You may have to be a bit patient with the wait staffs as they are courteous, but at times forgetful and slow. All in all, it's been a pleasant stay and I'll be returning on my next visit to Mumbai"

Sofitel Mumbai BKC - An AccorHotels Brand
Bandra Kurla Complex,Mumbai - View on map
"i've stayed in a number of the top hotels in mumbai as i frequent the city for work and the sofitel is by far one of the best i've stayed in. it's location in bkc is well differentiated from the rest of the hotels in mumbai as it offers a central location at the same time that the area in general is not as congested compared to say, nariman point. the hotel itself is very well done. the rooms are brand new, very spacious and adorned with amenities. service is top notch--room service gets in quite quickly. best of all, i had an incident which involved me losing a personal item when i left for a party in a different hotel and the head of security still personally attended to me and stopped at nothing to help me look for my lost personal effects (which i later found). all in all, i don't think i'd stay anywhere else. the traditional mumbai hotels are nice, but quite "tired" in my opinion. if you're looking for something new, this would be the hotel to go to. and best of all, you get the same class of service as all the top-notch hotels at reasonable prices."

Trident Bandra Kurla Hotel
Bandra Kurla Complex,Mumbai - View on map
"This is a great hotel overall! The staff and service are just top notch, 5-star quality. Only reason I've taken down 1 star in my rating is for the 1 issue we had daily during our stay ..breakfast! I gets busy during breakfast and, with young kids we weren't super happy with being bounced around from one breakfast place to another. This happened to us consistently throughout our 3 night stay. We stayed on the club floor and, club lounge was ok but, we preferred the buffet style setup on the restaurants on first floor as with little kids we needed more choices which were not available in the club lounge floor. Also, I've stayed at other hotels in Mumbai and I think the quality of food, temperature etc. leaves some room for improvement. Other than this, we loved this hotel, it's location, amenities and courteous staff. "

Trident Nariman Point Mumbai Hotel
South Mumbai,Mumbai - View on map
"In my previous five visits to India, I never managed to make it to Mumbai. So, I decided to spend the weekend in Mumbai before head off to a class in New Delhi. My original plan was to stay at the Taj; but the Trident had a promotional offer that was too good to pass up. I am very happy with my choice! The Trident Hotel is sleek and modern with a spectacular sea view. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more professional and helpful! Upon registering, I was offered an upgrade to club for only RS3,500 per night. Usually, these offers are rip-offs; but in the Trident's case it was a great bargain. For my extra RS3,500 (GBP 35) per night I got: a room with a great sea view, breakfast in the club lounge (The breakfast is made to order, not a buffet under hot lamp deal.), h'orderves and drinks in the evening, a free airport transfer that the staff allowed my to trade for a free four hour private tour of Mumbai (BTW, the tour was excellent.), free WiFi (I hate paying for WiFi. There's no reason in this day and age why all hotels don't provide free WiFi for their guests. In a five star hotel, charging for WiFi is mercenary!), and finally express checkout on the club (28th) floor. My room was great. The only criticism I have is that the drawers were small. I am not a clothes horse; but I bet a lot of travelers who book five star hotels are. Also, I was traveling alone. If I was accompanied, there would have probably been some contention over draw space. This is a very minor problem that the Trident can easily fix. The location, Nariman Point, is perfect. If you don't want to eat in the hotel, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. If I ever return to Mumbai, Trident Hotel Nariman Point will be my first choice!"

Traveler impressions of Mumbai

More about Mumbai

Stylish and successful with a smattering of historic relics, beaches, a raucous nightlife, and a long succession of Bollywood films, Mumbai fits the profile of an ideal travel destination. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is India's most popular gate of entry. Located 15 miles from the city center, it is served by several hotels catering to short-term visitors.

The best tourist sites are in South Mumbai, and the old colonial district has a wealth of Victorian architecture highlighted by the Gateway of India - a massive arch fronting the Arabian Sea. When it comes to historic sites, Colaba is the best place to start, but there is also plenty to see along Marine Drive and near Chowpatty Beach.

Mumbai may have an impressive collection of monuments and historic buildings, but the real pleasure in visiting comes from cosmopolitan pursuits. Many of India's best restaurants are found here, including those around Juhu Beach. Coastal cuisine is served in restaurants throughout the region, but Mumbai's diverse population has made room for a broader range of options with excellent Chinese and Italian restaurants.
