Le Chateau de Namur
"This hotel looks amazing from the outside. The location is amazing too, with a nice garden around the hotel and walking distance from the Citadelle.
I read in other reviews that the staff only spoke French, which i speak very limited. Luckily most of the staff could speak (a bit) Dutch too, but all preferred English.
The first night we chose to eat in the hotel. The food is good and reasonably priced. The restaurant staff are said to be trainees that try very hard. This is true, they want to be very helpful. Sometimes a bit too much :) But overall they do very well.
Breakfast we had elsewhere, since it wasn't included and required another €15 per person. A bit of a shame, since i've stayed in hotels that cost half the price of thise one but still had breakfast included.
The hotel and room interior is very nice, but i kinda wished it was more authentic chateau / classic / castle like. It was a very clean place, no complaints about that.
What you really want this hotel for, is the location. It's on a hilltop, very close to the Citadelle. Climbing the stairs of the Citadelle is quite an exercise, but we really enjoyed walking around there!
Namur itself is also easy to walk to from the hotel. I think around 10 ~ 15 minutes. Namur is a really nice place with lot's of history. It's also a place with many drunken homeless people, whom invade the many empty buildings. They didn't bother anyone though, but it's a rather strange sight.
Overall i have enjoyed the stay a lot!
One tip; if you don't have a MisterCash card, you should withdraw money at the hotel. Most of the places and ATM machines don't support anything else."Show more
