Best hotels & accommodations in Raiatea

The Opoa Beach Hotel where we’ve stayed the final 3 days of a 3-week trip to New Zealand and French Polynesia, is 9 cute cottages all decorated with local artisan craftwork, surrounding a small pool right by the waters edge on the east (sunrise) side of Raiatea looking towards Huahine. Free boat shuttle out the motu (little island w/beach on the reef surrounding the l...

Overall, the "Pension Les 3 Cascades" was a good choice for my stay in Raiatea. Patrice, the owner / manager, was extremely helpful in terms of arranging activities, making phone calls to his local contacts. Without him, I would never had been able to organise the bicycle tour or the day-trip on Motu. I highly appreciated him walking the extra mile. The property itsel...

Arsenne and Marie-Claude run a beautiful small hotel in the Opoa area. The hotel is a collection of individual bungalows - with most right on the beach, just a few steps to the Raiatea lagoon. The beach bungalows each have great views of Huahine, the Raiatea lagoon and reef, and a motu on the reef. Located on the windward side of the island, a strong, refreshing and...

Host(Charlotte) is super nice. She arranged transportation from airport and help us to rent a car(we got best price car for 1 day rental). She show us where to go . Room is clean and nice weather. Thank for nice breakfast and mango from the tree. We will stay here if we come back again.

I love meeting people who don't follow the typical tourist path. Here, I got to meet a French Polynesian family, yet had the privacy of my own room. The people who stay here are interesting and adventuresome. Claudine, the proprietor, is a lovely and wonderful hostess!

Since this was our first and probably only trip to French Polynesia, I booked the Pension Ta Maeva see as much of the island before getting on a catamaran cruise the next day. The bungalow was on the side of a hill just up from the owner's quarters. It was sparse with no AC but had a large floor fan. We slept comfortably. We had a resident gecko, but that didn't bother...

The accommodation is very well maintained and the view of each bungalow is directly to the lagoon. They are directly at the beach and very clean. The best accommodation so far in French Polynesia. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to everyone. A car or scooter to get along is recommended. The owner is very friendly and the food in the restaurant is excellent. Onl...

More about Raiatea
As an island destination, Raiatea offers things to do in the water and on land. There is diving and sailing, and an excursion through the lagoon in a glass-bottomed boat is sure to be memorable. Traversing the mountains is a refreshing way to end the day, and Mt. Temehani – comparable to a Polynesian Mt. Olympus – makes for an enchanting trek thanks to the extremely rare and unique Tiare Apetahi flower that crackles as it blooms each dawn. The island’s history and ancient culture can be explored in the archaeological area of Taputapuatea.
Coastal accommodation is aplenty on Raiatea and considerably cheaper than Bora Bora. The island may be the largest and most populated of the Leeward Islands, but it is easy to traverse, and travelers are never too far from the airport. Be sure to check out the interactive map of Raiatea for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
