We stayed for one night on our trip through the South Island of New Zealand. The proprietor Mary was so very helpful in giving us tips on what to do, where to eat and when to leave for Milford Sound. The accommodations were clean and the room very large with a splendid view of the park. Close to everything in Te Anau.

Great location close to shops of Te Anau with friendly hosts Rooms are slightly dated but considering the price and the space are great tradeoffs. There is a little cooking area and a separate lounge in the 1 bedroom apartment Really enjoyed my stay and would recommend if staying the night prior to driving up to Milford next morning

When we couldn't get through to Te Anau due to heavy snow and road closures the manager (Kathy) was kind and reassuring. "Don't worry, take your time, no problem..." she was flexible and friendly, it might have been more difficult in peak season but when plans and bookings began falling like dominoes it was a relief. Arrived to a warm place with spotless bathroom. A sh...

Of special note: the Fiordland NP Lodge, in Te Anau Downs, is the first lodging place on the road out of Milford Sound. It is lakeside (spectacular location!) about 25 km before Te Anau town and, according to my investigation, its self-catering units are considerably cheaper than similar offers in Te Anau. The lodge has been under new ownership since mid 2017 and manag...

It was a great experience eventhough we only stayed for one night. We had a pleasant suprise when we checked in, a warm welcome and a little hallowen trick or treat suprise. The room is very spacious. The location is perfect, once arrive in Te Anau, we can easily found the hotel.

We stayed for one short night at Dunluce Bed & Breakfast and we totally enjoyed it. Good breakfast personally prepared and served by Hannah didn't hurt either! If you want to go to Te Anau downtown, it's just a short distance away from the B&B. Ask for recommendation for dinner and other activities. There are lots of counters/office around the lake for you to sign up a...

We spent 3 nights in Te Anau, which got us an upgraded room. The hotel caters to 1 night bus tour stays. That said, it was nicer than we expected it to be. We ate dinner i...

The receptionist and owner Ms. Shona was very welcoming and she helped us with information on where to find food and how to go to the tourist kiosk of Southern discoveries in Te Anau. ...

Beautiful lodge with beautiful views of the golf course and lake. Luxmore Suite is very spacious with a great bathroom and shower. Quick drive into town and quick access to the Kepler. Dawn and Mark are incredibly gracious hosts! The breakfasts alone are worth the price of the room! We were in NZ 21 nights and our 3-night stay at Dock Bay was our favorite!

The host are super nice, we also had a chance to meet them again by coincidence in front of a supermarket when we got back from milford. The room is very clean, comfy and had everything you need as a traveller. Microwave, toaster, refrigerator, hairdryer, room heated. The room have 1 single bed and 1 doublebed so it can fit 3 adult people. Definitely will staying here...

as i was travelling off-season, there were not many people at the Village Inn [or in Te Anau]. but, the staff was lovely, friendly, helpful, pleasant to chat with. i did not mind walking back and forth to 'town'...all of about 2 blocks away, but older folks might have a harder time...most tour / excursions will drop-off / pick-up at hotels... would definitly recomme...

This is an authentic Kiwi B&B experience if you want a local stay in New Zealand. Their warm hospitality will make you feel welcome every single way. There are fresh fruits, cere...

The host was very helpful in booking trips, and dealt well with a complication. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and with good facilities (kitchenette and TV). At the back, our garden door gave access to table and chairs on the lawn, much appreciated on the sunny days we had. The location is quiet, one block back from the lake front and about 7 minutes walk...

We had a lovely two night stay here en route to the Milford Sound. The welcome was appreciated after a long drive. Pancake breakfasts from Eleanor are a real treat, savoury or sweet. Te Anau Lodge is within very short walking distance to the town center. Mark is exceptional, professional, and has good sense of humor! Where do I start? Well I booked this hotel by seeing a few pictures on internet and what a beautiful place! We were upgraded when we arrived to a Suite because we were the only guest (the season just started). Traveler impressions of Te Anau
A quiet little town to relax with family. I would recommend people to stay a night if they are planning to travel to Milford sound.
Need to stay for 2 nights if planning to visit Milford Sound. Because a day trip will take 7 hours to complete from Te Anau.
Nice water front area. You czn just sit & watch seaplane & helicopters take off & land. Plenty of places to eat.
Te Anau is a superb, small lake resort, excellent beaches, good restaurants/shops and an ideal place for stopping en-route to/from Milford Sound.
Our family loved Te Anau in November. The town remains charmingly low-key. Nature in and around Te Anau is lovely both in terms of that which is untamed and that which is cultivated.
This city is very beautiful. The small town is very cute. Many Italian restaurant, and the one we had for dinner is very nice
Te Anau's Wildlife Park. One can discovered Takahe bird & other unique native birds. Free of entrance.
It's a beautiful picturesque and quiet place to stay. Great base if you want to visit Milford sound. Not recommended for the food or usual friendly tourist atmosphere.
Basically ,it is a very simple town. Nothing to much offer except quiet and good transit to Mildford sound.
Te Anau is a beautiful lake. Must visit the Glow Worm cave. A good staging place to visit Milford Sounds
Cute, very small town on the edge of a huge lake with walking paths. This is a starting place for many trips to Milford Sound.
Took a day cruise in Milford Sound (only need to do a day cruise) and an overnight cruise in Doubtful sound.
If you drive the car from Queenstown to Milford Sound. it is better to stay in Te Anau for a night, so that it won't drive too long in a single ride.
My original intention in staying overnight at Te Anau was to be able to arrive at Milford Sound in the morning time.
Small town that does not have much night activities other than the Tab for drinking and perhaps some games.
The Milford sound was beautiful great cruise and bus trip. I went for a ride with high country horses who were very friendly and although the weather was not terrific they still took me even tho I was the only one on ride.
Te Anau is an insignificent small town on the way to Milford Sounds. The glow worm tour is well worthwhile and there are some walks which leave from the area.
Whether you want to explore beautiful rivers and coastlines, or whether white water kayaking on swiftly flowing rivers is more your thing, there is options to suit everyone.
Te Anau is a very cute little town. It is the centre for the glowworms and close to Milford Sound. Great place to stay.
It is a perfect place to stay for a trip to Milford Sound as it is only 2 hours away. So you can arrive one day and spend the night and then go to Milford Sound and spend a second night before leaving the next day.
Te Anau is a small city. You can literally walk around it in about an hour. But it's close to Milford Sound, which brings in a large amount of revenue for this city.
I´ve been in Te Anau twice, 12 years ago and last week. The town has not changed much but the prices have.
gateway to milford sounds which is a must see. drive from queenstown and spend the night in te anua after trip to miford.
