Traveler impressions of Wollongong

More about Wollongong

Heading south, the city of Wollongong begins where Sydney ends. It is the third largest city in the state and covers a thin coastal plain. Illawarra Regional Airport handles charter flights and general aviation, meaning the most common way to enter is via road. Train services are also available and provides a more scenic entry.

There is plenty to see and do when in Wollongong. With water on both sides of the city, there is undoubtedly plenty of water sports to enjoy. North Beach is one of the most popular, and City Beach, Austinmer, and Towradgi each have their own unique appeal. Those looking to capture views over the city have several lookout options to choose from, including Bulli Pass, Mount Keira Lookout, and Mount Kembla Lookout. For more grand sights, there is the award-winning Nan Tien Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia’s Industry World makes for a rather unique stop as well as it explore Port Kembla and its surrounding industry. For some natural excursions, make a visit to the Wollongong Botanical Gardens and Minnamurra Rainforest. Walking and cycling trails, vintage trains, and sky-diving are but a few more of the many opportunities to be had in Wollongong.
