The Grand Hotel in Taipei, with its traditional palace-style architecture, vermillion pillars, stately archways and brilliantly tiled roof, is not only a magnificent landmark of Taiwan, but an emblem of ancient China. Catering to international conferences, diplomatic summits, and grandiose weddings, the resort rises 12 stories above the city and is two kilometers from Taipei Fine Art Museum and Shin Lin Night Market. Chiang Kai Shek International Airport is a 45-minute drive away. The only true Chinese, palace-style hotel in the world, the Grand Hotel offers recreational activities with a pool and tennis court and features international conference facilities with 10 fully equipped meeting rooms, a conference hall, and a grand ballroom on the hotel's top floor, hosting up to 800 guests. True to its tradition, this Chinese palace boasts the finest of dining options: the Golden Dragon Restaurant serves Cantonese specialties, the Grand Garden Western Dining Room offers both Eastern and Western cuisine, the Lobby Lounge features afternoon teas, light snacks and live Chinese music, and at the Yuan Yuan, diners can watch chefs concoct typical Chinese, northern province dim sum in an open kitchen. Whatever the reason for your stay, Grand Hotel will make it a good one.
"The Grand Hotel also has an annex called the Chin-Lin annex."

Stunning traditionally designed Chinese Hotel. Built by Chiang Kai Chek as a showpiece and it is truly elegant and beautiful. Didn’t have enough time to try out the many facilities but would definitely come back.. only issue is its isolation but they have shuttles and a bus to the airport and a lot to do at the hotel. Great views too.
Totally different room type upon my arrival and the booking via Agoda.”
The check in counter said Agoda book me a Mountain Deluxe room. However, I actually pay higher to book the Horizon City View room via Agoda. Is there something wrong in Agoda Reservation ? It is totally disappointed and highly recommended you to double confirm with Agoda to mark everything in the confirmation sheet explicitly and confirm in advance before you go. The Grand Hotel Taipei is great and very clean. There is always performance in the lobby. An memorable experience !
Couldn't say better things about this hotel. It felt luxurious and was quite the experience (We never stay anywhere nice, so this was luxury at its finest for us)! Comfortable bed, great balcony, good breakfast and interesting grounds.
Gym and Swimming Pool are far away from main hotel. You need to take a bus to the Yuanshan MRT Station and many times, the bus is filled by the local (not hotel guest) Hotel Café crowded with local having tea after strolling at the hill behind the Hotel Building. Many tourist from outside visited the hotel lobby for the extraordinary architecture and always crowded with group tourist. Morning Breakfast, very crowded but have a very widespread. Room is small.
Great hotel, but...”
I loved the architecture, but that was all. Breakfast gets great reviews, but I am European, and except the omelet, nothing else appealed to me: the bread, cheese, and fruit selection is poor (few assortments of fruit, unhealthy cheese, and some buns or monkey bread) and the yogurt is the sweetened type. I paid a lot because it was on the site, but I recommend looking for healthier options somewhere else. There is a large selection of Asian food, but nothing seemed healthy to me, except for some veggies maybe (few though). On top of that, starting with the second night I got some red itchy bumps on my body that became worse on the following days.. I do not know whether they are from the hotel room or pool, or even food. I ate out a few times but only cooked meals, so I doubt I have them from anywhere else.
Superb balcony and extraordinary Chinese food”
The best thing about Grand is our spacious and magnificent red and gold coloured balcony facing the city. Interesting view watching planes landing at Songshan Airport. The Chinese Restaurant on the ground floor offers splendid dishes. Very polite and helpful staff.
I took the MRT from the Main train station and got off at Jiantan station. It was about a 15 minute walk to the Grand Hotel. This is not recommended if you have suitcases. The shortcut has you climbing many steps. The hotel also has a shuttle service to Yuanshan MRT station with shuttles leaving every 30 minutes. Like most hotels there are different size rooms. The Grand Hotel also has an annex called the Chin-Lin annex. If you want a room in the main building don’t choose the annex. The remodeled rooms are more of a simplified elegant versus being ornate. Some original elements still exists such as the wood floors and the night stand between the two beds. There is a cash mini bar and the usual toiletry amenities. Two breakfast locations are available. On the main floor is the Asian and Western buffet. On the 10 floor in the Prestige Lounge is what they call the Muslim breakfast. I found the Prestige Lounge to be not very crowed and with great views. If you don’t need your ham or bacon in the morning, the Prestige Lounge is a good choice. On the 10 floor is also a small fitness room. There is also an outdoor swimming pool.
A very Grand hotel ”
Grand hotel live up to it name as the hotel is really grand. A must stay if you visit Taipei but the room is aged and really need to be upgrade. I like the Swimming pool a lot as it is the biggest pool in Taiwan hotel.
I had a smallish, but comfortable and impeccably clean interior room. The service and staff were excellent. The lobby is impressive and is itself a tourist attraction. The buffets are very good. The hotel offers are free shuttle to the local MRT (subway) station, so it is easy to explore the city on your own.
Lots of history in this hotel! I stayed in one of the Chi-Ling rooms for two nights and was not disappointed with the high standard of cleanliness and comfort in the room which also had a nice view of the 101 building and city from the balcony. The room felt brand new with a great shower and separate bathtub. Television had all the movie/news channels and the wifi worked extremely well/fast. Check-in was smooth as was check-out. The only possible negative is the location which, given the hotel's premier status and beautiful surroundings, is understandably slightly inconvenient, but there is a free shuttle to the nearest MRT stations as well as taxis on standby. The free museum and photo gallery give you a good idea of the hotel's storied history, but I also saw Taiwan's president, Tsai Ing-wen, passing in the lobby. 9.5/10
A good place to stay, cozy and quiet.”
Worth to stay more days if would like to enjoy hotel facilities. For older kids and adults, that is absolutely no problem of farthest from the town. 15 mins walk to Shilin Night Market. To other place, must to take shuttle or taxi.
Spacious room, excellent service and good view ”
The room is spcious and clean. The service is excellent. AS the hotel is located at the top of a mountain, the view is good. The drawback is the the need of better transport and often the use of taxi to come back to the hotel in the evening.
good historic hotel”
The hotel building is quite magnificent, kinda of a tourist attraction. The location is a bit far from the mtr, but you can take the hotel shuttle bus. but it's not very frequent. The hotel is not new but recently renovated. so even the room is quite old style, the bathroom is clean.hotel staffs are very polite and nice. in all, it's a good value of money.
Over weekend after business trip”
Location not really convenient as was above. Generally very nice hotel and the place was cleaned. Initial took a cab to hotel instead of walking as what other say near by. Not near. overall experience not bad. Nice hotel. What I like was able to booked a coach to airport direct and reasonable price.
Clean, spacious room at a historical hotel”
First stay at the famous Grand Hotel, the Lobby is antiquated, but remains clean and stylish. Entering the room hall ways, the old carpet and dim lighting worried me with the thought that the room might be as dark and maybe even haunted with old hotel room smells. Much to my surprise, the room is actually more spacious and cleaner than I have imagined. Different from the picture I saw on Agoda, perhaps they have chosen to upgrade me to a bigger room. The biggest advantage and also its disadvantage is that the hotel is located on top of the hill, has great view, but relies on hotel shuttle bus or taxi to get there. Wouldn't never have the chance to live at the Grand Hotel once in my life had I not found this bargain price room on New Year's eve. Would consider to stay again if price is at a bargain.
Service as priority hotel”
Great service, staff were very caring when they know I was sick. Offered wheelchair to ferry me to lobby and arrange a staff follow us to clinic and back to hotel. Too bad that we do not have sufficient time to site seeing their incredible buildings and landscape. Will be back again
thanks for chaning room upgraded”
Reseved no view room and dropped water. So changed the room from a standard to suites room which is so larger. It is arranged with tideness woth traditional view and the bell girl is so helpful and kind. Good memory ever.
received expected service and quality from this famous hotel in taipei. only stayed 1 night to check out the concert nearby. room we stayed was smaller than standard American room, but very clean overall. People greet you when they see you. overall it's still a 5 star hotel.
We had a good stay!!”
Check in was a breeze. The room is spacious and have complete amenities. One of the best thing about this hotel is how accommodating the staff are. They will assist you in anyway possible. Free shuttle service to MRT Jianshan station every 20 minutes. And from Jianshan MRT, there's already a KLM Bus that will bring you to Taoyuan Int'l Airport,no need to go to TAipei Main Station. Pretty close to Shilin Night Market too.
Classic 5 star hotel with great build-up view”
the hotel has great appearance and classic design. i have a prestige room with great view. hotel staff is nice to switch my room from mountain view to city view so i can have a better experience. breakfast can be improved with only limited choice of chinese style food. decor is perfect. swimming pool is quite far from main building.
