Monterey City Center hotels & places to stay

We choose this hotel because of their location. They located nest to the "Monterey State Historic Park" & lively "Fisherman's Wharf". You can leave your car and have some tasty meals just 3-minutes walk. The hotel building design blend with the original historic building. We love the adjustable shutters in the guest room instead of curtain(good for those who has allergy).

We stayed at the Abrego the night we arrived in Monterey ahead of the start of a three night stay at Pebble Beach Resort. Money aside, I liked the rooms at the Abrego better. The rooms were exceptional, with bathrooms and beds that made us think about remodeling out bedroom suite at home. The hotel is conveniently located and one of the (surprisingly) less expensive options around Monterey. Highly recommended.

We had just finished a lovely 3-night stay at a Best Western Plus in Colton, CA, so our expectations for this BWP in Monterey were rather high, I suppose. There were a few let-downs, but only by comparison. There was no AC in the room, only heat, so we didn't get the white noise we wanted for the baby, which was especially a problem because the elevators were right on the other side of our wall, and we could hear it going up and down every couple of minutes (this was in room 301). The king mattress was actually a queen mattress. Staff was less friendly than the staff in Colton. The breakfast selection was decent, but smaller. No microwave (which we had in Colton), but at least we had a fridge, and it had clearly been bleached, so wow, yeah, but hey at least no germs! Wi-Fi was great. It's easy to walk to the lovely downtown area and Fisherman's Wharf. I should probably give it a better "value for money" rating, but I'm a Broke AF grad student so my perception of value is kinda warped.

The hotel is centrally located with lots of dining options around & easy access to everything. The room had a beachy cottage feeling & is literally across the street from the wharf. At least a 5-10 mins walk only. There is a fee of $20 for parking in the underground garage... the only downside. The hotel should have reserved spaces for checking in. Since there is no space in the front of the lobby. You'll have to drive into the garage, find a parking & walk to the lobby from the garage. Yes some stuffs were out dated, like the counter tops in the living room area & some furniture, but it wasn't a big deal to me. I thought it was still cute & so did my kids. It was well equipped with a microwave, fridge & coffee maker. Some silverware, plates & cups were provided in the room as well. The bathrooms & beds looked updated & the beds were comfortable. The down blanket was super warm too. The closet was super small & will not fit a medium size suitcase. Maybe a carry on? But you can still hang a few stuffs in there. The walls in the living room area could use some paint touch ups. There were some cracks & smudges on the walls. The chairs could use some cleaning too. They looked real dirty. Maybe from the use of the fireplace over time. Which we did utilize & was a nice feature in the room!! The couch was a full sized pull out, but the mattress might need to get changed out for a new one. You can feel the springs. My son decided to use the pull out, but there weren't any beddings provided. I called front desk & house keeping brought them up within 3 mins... great job! He actually came up 2X but was quick both times. Our view from the balcony & front door were both nice. The grounds were beautiful & it might seem a little like a maze. I couldn't hear any noises from my neighbors on both sides or upstairs... if there were any? The hotel was on a busy street too, but I couldn't hear the traffic noise either. All rooms very well appointed giving an intimate feel, staff very friendly. Complimentary wine and cheese in late afternoon is a nice touch. Parking easy and good location to walk to nearby attractions in Monterey

This was a last-minute booking due to the health of my mother at Sunrise retirement home. Booking was very easy. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. And my room was beautiful. I'm a clean freak when it comes to hotels and this was a very clean Hotel. I travel a lot for my dog shows and this hotel was far better than any I have stayed in in the past year. With that said I don't know if this is a pet friendly hotel or not. The breakfast served in the morning was perfect! Bacon eggs and Waffles. That space was also very clean and well-organized. I can't think of anything negative about this hotel. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Monterey Bay Area.

On the afternoon(July 15) we checked in, the front desk staff Julie was so helpful to us. We were a little bit surprised but it's hearwarming. She showed us the info regarding Monterey Bay and Camel and gave us a room facing the woods and it's so quiet and comfortable. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay in Comfort Inn Monterey By the Sea if we visited that area again. The only thing needs to be improved thought is the breakfast. The dining room is too small and the waffle ingredient and regular coffee ran out....

This location was great!!!! And I mean great!! It was about half a mile or less from the shopping center. It was also about half a mile from the downtown area where all the great places to eat and late night stops were. A very short drive, approximately about a mile from the 17 mile scenic drive enterance. It was a great location. On top of that, our room was very clean. It was very comfortable.

We stayed here for 2 nights while we explored the area. A comfortable stay, decent breakfast spread, walking distance to the mall with a Whole Foods, which was convenient. A short drive to the Monterey Fisherman’s Wharf.

The room was exceptionally clean and 12 minutes walk to the Del Monte shopping centre, 15 minutes walk to Monterey Transit Plaza and the airport buses 93 and 7 stop directly in front. The price was very low, so my stay was great value. This is a simple, no frills motel which was just fine for me.

The location is very close with Del Monte Center (shopping place in Monterey), so I could get anything by walking distance. Also, many buses stopped inside the mall area, which made it more convenience to go somewhere. My room was spacious, clean and well equipped with big comfortable bed. It’s highly recommended.

Walking distance to the Cannery Row, Monterey Aquarium and good restaurants. Our room was extremely spacious and comfortable. Large lobby with sitting areas for TV viewing or general decompressing after a busy day. Highly recommend this hotel!

They offer good breakfast, coffee, bread, joice Wifi is good, but not too fast bathroom small, but acceptable 15 minutes walk to Fisherman wharf around 1 hour bike to Carmel---very beautiful town you shouldn't miss. Buses available to take you back to Monterey plaza

I was very pleased with our room it was very clean, smelled nice, (that is a big one for me) staff was friendly, and it was fairly close (less than 10 minuets) to beach, aquarium, shopping and restaurants. Priced within my tight budget. 👍🏼

We love to stay in this hotel very much. The hotel room was complete with oven and fridge for your convenient. The front staff was very helpful in guiding us on Monterey sightseeing and place to eat. We can bought the Aquarium enterance ticket in this hotel with 2 days ticket for 1 day price. The breakfast provide by this hotel was great, i love it especially the muffin. This hotel situated at about 5min drive to Cannery Row town centre.

The location was convenient for the attractions around Monterey. You will still need a car to get around, but close enough to walk for local shops and food. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and accommodated to our needs. The only thing that can improve is the breakfast, very limited choices.

This small but lovely hotel is located next to the Monterey Bay, within walking distance. The room was very comfortable even though we booked a two double beds room (two adults and two older children). The hotel has provided us free internet service and free breakfast for all! The hotel is about 1 kilometer away from the fisherman's wharf and scenic view was stunning.

Pros: close to Monterey wharf and aquarium; mall complex two blocks away; Vietnamese restaurant next door; King size bed large; bathtub; room clean; nothing got lost in the room; lots of tv channels, strong wi-fi. I should have booked a longer stay in Monterey as the city is charming and lots of activities. Cons: no elevator to second floor (if you have large suitcase); continental breakfast needs improvement

I was pretty pleased with my experience. The room was reasonable at $50 a night. It's not right in the middle of Monterey, but close enough: about a 10-minute walk from downtown, 15-20 minute walk from the historic customs house and waterfront. The room was comfortable and included a microwave and refrigerator. There was also a gas fireplace which provided cozy warmth. I could even see the ocean from my room (albeit not much of it). I had little interaction with staff, but the desk guy at check-in was friendly. The room also included a coupon for a couple bucks off breakfast at a nearby eatery. Overall a nice stay.

Great, quaint and well equipped rooms, not only in keeping with the Spanish theme but plenty of modern features too. Didn’t get a chance to fully explore the hotel but the bar and fire-pit were excellent as well - would stay here again and recommend to a friend too.

Great location. Easy access to thr main attractions as well as to the city centre where there were a lot of dining options. Parking was freely available for all guests.

My daughter & I needed a hotel for an overnight near her SAT site but we also wanted to have a little fun the night before. I have always wanted to stay at the Spindrift, We arrived later than planned and pulled up to valet parking ($30 and worth it because parking in Monterey is expensive). The staff was so nice, they were cleaning up the wine, but kindly offered me a glass since it had been a long drive. Our room was adorable, clean, and quaint and We loved the fireplace (I wished it was cooler so I wanted a fire) the best surprise a sauna in the bathroom. When. we returned from a late dinner one of our windows was stuck & they had a maintenance person up in at 10pm fixing it. The next morning i had to leave early to run to the test, I called down & they had my car out front waiting for us...& I came back to finish my in room continental breakfast. They also loaded my luggage in my car after check out while I went for lunch.. All the staff amazing and friendly I will be back

Loved this hotel! The best view of Monterey; beautiful ocean view right on the water. Listened to crashing waves, gulls and seals all evening long and slept like babies! Lovely good sized room with a huge bathroom. Awesome balcony to enjoy the view as well. Everything was fabulous, including the complimentary continental breakfast that was delivered to our room each morning. What a treat! The food was fantastic; you can tell the pastry was fresh baked. Seriously couldn’t believe how nice it all was. Have already recommended the hotel to family and will continue to recommend to anyone looking to stay in Monterey.

Clean, quaint, handy shopping mall across the road where you can stock up on coffee and food. Would most definitely stay here again - a little bit outside of the centre but still a great location, very clean and friendly staff.
