Wonderful Experience staying at ryokan”
We booked the family room for four adults. The room was spacious with a private onsen. The place is rather obscure and quite a distance from the train station. It is a very quiet neighbourhood. The staff was amazing. All of them speak English so well. We were treated to a tea ceremony upon arrival. The breakfast was an experience. We truly enjoyed our stay.
Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo exceeded expectations. We booked one night in this hotel as it was recommended by a friend and we wanted to experience ryokan style living in Kyoto. The staff were incredible. They all spoke excellent English and were extremely polite and friendly. They were there for our every need and did everything to make sure we were comfortable. They took care of moving all of our luggage at check in as well as check out, which was so helpful. The room was very large for two people, with a bedroom and two other large rooms for living/dining. The bathroom was spacious and had a large private outdoor bath. The hotel has a beautiful Japanese style garden in the center, great for taking photos as well as relaxing. I would recommend getting the breakfast, it was absolutely delicious- tableside freshly grilled vegetables and wagyu beef. It was worth the splurge as we enjoyed a fully relaxing time, and we'd definitely be back again!
Truly a wonderful and authentic experience, the staff were great and amazing.”
It was one of our best highlights in Japan! I will definitely be back. Thank you Nazuna staff for an unbelievably experience. Aloha, Austin Family
We loved our stay thanks in large part to the wonderful staff — thank you Sachi! We also loved the tea ceremony!
Beautiful place and food and staff ”
A true Japanes experience. Arrived to find immaculate Ryocon with lots of space and wooden bath. Great hospitality. Helpful. Lovely tea ceremony and matcha tea. Futon beds on floor and sliding doors and all you would hope for. We had the largest which is upstairs and I thought it would be ground floor. We had a balcony. An Amazing breakfast which was a Wow and we all loved the whole experience. Kids are 20&22. Helped us with everything. Shoes off as you arrive and given slippers. We went out for supper. Yes this was good and we had done a lot of looking before hand on the internet.
Truly Wonderful Stay”
We loved everything about this place. We stayed in the Matcha Room and enjoyed the amenities. Our private garden and bath were so relaxing and I can't say enough about the staff. The staff goes out of their way to make you comfortable and see to every need. Sachiko Nakagawa, the assistant manger, Yuske, and Rina deserve mention for going out of there way to make us comfortable. We checked out in the morning and stored our luggage while we went sight seeing. We had arranged for an early evening transfer to the airport in Osaka. We finished a head of schedule and because it was a Sunday late afternoon no where close by was open. The staff welcomed us back, were happy to have us sit in the breakfast room and then served us refreshments. They truly went above and beyond our expectation. We will stay here again when we make it back to Kyoto!
They can show you a short tea ceremony and theres a bike outside the ryokan if you feel adventurous
Not worth it
Great place to stay. Staff was extremely helpful.”
Cute Japanese hospitality. There are only 5 rooms so the staff really look after you. Breakfast was amazing they catered for hubby who opted for western breakfast but I enjoyed the amazing Japanese breakfast. We also opted for the room with outdoor tub. Yoku our breakfast server was extremely nice !! Love this place
Highlight of our vacation!”
Perfection! From the welcome tea ceremony, to the incredible Japanese breakfast, out stay was better than I could have ever expected. The restaurant recommendations were top notch, as well. We felt pampered and well taken care of. Japanese hospitality at its finest and well worth the extra money. Do NOT pass up the Japanese breakfast; you’ll be full until dinner! An extra shout out to Yuko for her great hospitality, morning conversations, and her thoughtfulness. We will absolutely be back!

Love this place! ”
My husband and I had the best time at this ryokan. From the room to the food to the service, top notch. I wish I could've stayed longer. Highly recommend.
Amazing Ryokan with an even more amazing staff. The kaiseki breakfast was a great experience and gave us the opportunity to learn more about Japanese cuisine.
Very traditional ”
Lovely quaint hotel in Kyoto, very traditional with Japanese breakfast. Very bug room with garden, walking to some restaurants but not great location.
The room was massive (especially for Japan) and with top-notch amenities and facilities. It would have been nicer for us, as a couple, to have 1 double or queen bed instead of 2 separate, but that was all that was available here. We enjoyed the brief tea ceremony on arrival and the tea theme in general. We stayed in the Genmaicha room and loved our outdoor tub as well as the indoor rain shower. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful, and the grilled breakfast was one of the best we had on our trip to Japan. Quite expensive but worth it for a special treat.
Very Friendly and Helpfull Staff”
I would recommend this hotel for anyone who want to refresh in Kyoto and get a feel of zen style room hotel. The staff very friendly and helpfull. It just a little bit expensive, but the service given is very good.

Wonderful experience ”
Absolutely loved this place. What an experience of Japanese culture and way of living. From the moment we arrived, we felt like VIPs. Room was big and spacious, loved the outdoor bath. Perfect for winter. Garden was beautiful, very relaxing environment. Staff were great, spoke good English. Very friendly. Free laundry. We had free dessert delivered to us every night. Room was kept tidy everyday. Location is great, opposite the Nijojo castle (must place to visit). About 10min walk to train station. Breakfast was lovely, food cooked in front of you. Not many guests around, so it was always peaceful. Great little restaurants close by for dinner. Loved the facial and body products. Overall loved it and definitely go back again.

Very relaxing stay, wonderful ambience”
We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay at Nazuna. It was very relaxing, with a wonderful outdoor bath topping off the excellent facilities. On arrival there is a casual tea ceremony - a full ceremony is available if you wish. Breakfast was served in the dining area and was a real treat, with much of the food prepared over a charcoal grill. The English speaking staff were very friendly and professional, assisting with dinner recommendations and reservations, booking taxis and providing welcome cups of tea. Our stay in the machiya house provided an insight into life in old Kyoto. Would love to stay there again.
