    Ordinary”

Check in was a lengthy process and we were eventually shown to our room only to find we’d been given 2 single beds despite the fact that we’d been assured that it was a double room. Having said that, they sorted it out and the room was clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant. No porter offered to carry our luggage. Breakfast was not included and on inquiry we found it was exorbitantly priced. On the whole it was fine, but compared to other similarly priced hotels it was somewhat ordinary. If it were not for the convenience of the location for us, I would be unlikely to stay there again.

    Pleasant stay”

    Friendliness of the staff, surroundings

Arrived for a very late check-in (around midnight) without any issues, had called them in advance though. Was surprised to be offered a free late checkout at 4PM when asking - thumbs up for that! On the downside the AC in the room made a bad rattling noise (room 308) and the shower head seemed broken. The overall room standard and cleanliness lived up to my expectations of a 4-star hotel. Overall a good experience. Would stay here again.

    Perfect for Cricket fans”

Location opposite Wanderers, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms

The best part about this hotel was its value for money, and the luxury of staying within walking distance of Wanderers, where we were attending the cricket test between SA and India. The complementary apples were also a nice (if not quirky) touch. In general it was a good hotel, a good 4-star rating, and great location for cricket fans. Also nice and close to the Rosebank shops which includes Gautrain access, although I would not call this walking distance.

    Great location with great service”

    close to the mall

This hotel is in one of the exclusive areas of Joburg near Melrose. They actually have the Wanderer Club on the property with squash court...tennis in America...very nice once you drive on to property. Service is four star and you feel secure on the property even though it is off a busy street. Definitely one of the better Protea locations. The great benefit is the large shopping mall less than 5K from property. The rooms are a nice size and the restraurant on the property is very good.

Nice quiet hotel in an excellent location”

Good location for shopping and business, quiet

my 18 yr old son and i shared a nice clean room with a lovely view of the club house and cricket grounds. despite being in the middle of suburban jhb, close to the best shops, offices and restaurants, it was very quiet. aircon and tv worked well and the fridge was useful for our own drinks. we didn't eat there at all, so can't comment on the food. plenty of parking for your car. friendly staff.

    Friendly staff and large rooms”

Conveniently positioned to Sandton, Melrose and Ilovo. Very spacious rooms and relaxing pool area.

From the welcoming friendly staff to the spacious rooms, your stay at this hotel will be a pleasure. Rates are reasonable and the rooms are really very spacious. Although on a busy road, the double glazed windows more than adequately block out the sounds. Conveniently positioned close the the main shopping and entertainment areas of Sandton, Hyde Park, Melrose and Illovo. Right opposite the Wanderers stadium, so equally well positioned if you are a cricket fanatic.

you get an apple every day in your room

This is definetly a good business hotel . i would not recommend it for families with young children as there,s not much to do. the wanderers club next door is very beautiful and adds to the hotels features. the location is great and all the big shopping malls and facilities are nearby.

    Very nice hotel”

very nice grounds and lobby area

we enjoyed our stay here. the hotel was very nice, rooms were clean and large, restaurant was great ( a little over priced for breakfast) and the pool area had great views. more for business though, this was our last day in sa on vacation and there wasn't much around to see or do. cabs rides were expensive to go anywhere and it didn't seem that safe to walk around. the location was the only thing we disliked.

    Good hotel for business stay”

    Location, confort

a good hotel located in illovo, close to restaurants & shops at melrose arch and sandton (5 minutes and 10 minutes drive respectively). the hotel is also 5 minutes from the m1 for access in and out of joburg. the hotel is clean, friendly and the rooms are comfortable and well equipped. the restaurant serves good but not great food and the bar has a good selection of beverages served by friendly staff. i have stayed here twice in thre last year and it is a good hotel for business stay but you will need a car to get around.

Great Hotel in very exclusive area”

Large rooms, hotel recently updated, fresh apples every day, great food in restraurant

I went with a group and was very pleased with first impressions of the hotel. At check in we were greeted with sparkling cider while waiting to check in...very nice touch. Parking was covered from elements and free of charge which was great. Lobby was large and decorated with a modern flare..very impressive when you first enter...and helped ease stress of individual guest rooms. The property was very well maintained and overlooked clubhouse and squash courts.

Beautiful Hotel in exclusive Rosebank area”

Very everything was good, food, location and service

We had a big group with us and the hotel service was great. There was a bar area, tv area and smoking room right across from the bar for the smoker in your life...very tastefully done with fireplace and large club chairs to relax if you did not want to be in your room at night. The lobby was large and beautifully arranged with alot of seating areas to hang out with friends.

    Comfortable stay”

I had booked with Agoda- a king size bed, however the staff insisted their booking stated 2 double beds. they had opted to push 2 beds together as they had no other options available. As a person who enjoys sleeping in a King size bed on holiday, having 2 beds pushed together and sinking in the middle is NOT an option. After waiting for 2 hours with no response from the front desk, I went to speak to the manager. Only after I insisted they pull out my confirmation invoice from Agoda proving my booking was for a King size bed, they miraculously managed to find an available room for me. Aside from this early schlep, the rest of the staff was amazingly friendly, room was always clean and a bonus of a mega size apple every morning. These is also a free shuttle service to Sandton centre and Melrose Arch. unfortunately due to my hours long delay with my booking I was not able to use this on the 1st day

    Only recommended for business travellers”

    * Room comfortability; * Staff friendliness; * Accessibility

The hotel is definitely geared for business guests and not family or solo travellers. The pub & restaurant are open 24hrs a day. The noise from that area radiates through to the rooms making sleep almost impossible. From about 5am one also gets the noise from dining area as tables are moved and scraped on the floor. Kitchen noise also filters up to rooms. Breakfast & dinner menus are overpriced...not value for money.

    Cleaniness”

Location - quite - view frm the bedroom

I am concerned about the cleanliness. When I checked into the room I needed a cup of coffee. There was some water in the kettle which I threw out. When I poured the water out a whole lot of black slime poured out. Nonetheless I washed out the kettle and boiled my water but didnt have the nerve to drink from the kettle. In the morning when before checking out I mentioned to the housekeeper of the incident. She picked up the kettle looked inside and told me the kettle is clean and there is no problem. That is not what I expected. Not even a sorry.

Bad location and unhelpful staff. Nuff said.”

    Nothing

First the hotel is located in the Suburbs where most hotels are. Really an unideal location to explore Joburg. The taxi fare according to the staff is R250 one way tp downtown! We did not take a cab to downtown. Instead we took a cab from the hotel to the Rosebank Gautrain station and then took the Gautrain to Park Station. That would save you nearly R120-150 off the R250. Plus it was soooo much faster! That option was not presented by the staff of the hotel. They said you either take the metered taxis or you take their Lux Express. We researched that option on our own. We could have saved more if the Joburg taxi drivers were more honest. They refused to use their meters and they quoted different rates going to and coming from the same place (R70 for going to and R100 for coming from the Rosebank Gautrain station). We did not argue with them so that we could get safely to our destination. That's the one bad things about Joburg - the taxis. :( The staff were really unhelpful in this hotel. They had monosyllabic answers to your questions as if there was a price to every word they uttered. They never expounded and good luck with asking an open question because all you will get is a blank stare with an open mouth. Find a different hotel when you go to Joburg. Leave this hotel to the business travellers who probably get better treatment since they are regulars of could not care less about interacting with the staff since they are just really rooming in in this hotel.
