Hipster boutique hotel”
I stayed at Shanghai Chi Chen for 4 nights to attend China Composites. Despite being a business traveller, I chose this hotel because of its affordable rates and good location. The hotel is just a 2 minute walk from Xiaonanmen station ( exit 3, turn right then turn right again on the corner). Check in was a breeze as I was assisted by their front desk staff who can also speak English. This is a big plus as half of their guests are foreign backpackers. There are 2 convenience stores and ATM nearby. Area seems safe but can look sketchy at night. I didn't really mind as the stores and station are just a couple of minutes away. Also, there are always a lot of people outside. I got a solo room with no windows at the second floor. Housekeeping tidied up my room and replenished my toiletries and towels even if not instructed. They have a nice cafe and beer bar at the lobby which serves as a good place to mingle with the other guests. You can also use the computers there for free. The only negative that I can note in this hotel is the thin walls. Noise from the corridor can easily waft through my room. Unless I'm bringing along a business associate, I will gladly stay at this hotel. Love the chill, hipster vibe.

Location, friendliness and comfort.”
What a find ! The Chi Chen is so well located for groups, we were with 26 students and five adults for a school trip. The Metro is across the road as are markets for breakfast food, cheap authentic local restaurants for evening meals, a 24 hour convenience store and a charmingly local vibe to the streets in the area. On top of that you have the most helpful and friendly staff who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and ease of being in a big city - The staff are fantastic and it was not expensive. The showers have good pressure and consistent heat, a consideration for a winter visit for sure! Thank you Chi Chen.

EVERYTHING WAS GOOD HERE”
I love every detail of this hotel, even the smallest one. Was stay here more than 4 weeks. Stay on the 6 person female room and my parents at the King Bed room ont he 2nd floor. The facilities you can get is very worth with the price you pay. The location was very good, 5 minutes walk to the MRT Line 9 (小南门 xiǎo nán mén station Exit 2 or Exit 3), walk straight from the MRT station and you can get some small restaurant there). There is one 24hour minimarket beside the hotel. This hotel is very clean, they mop the floor twice a day, the room and the lobby is very clean too. And what i love the most from this hotel is the staff! All the staff of this hotel is very helpful and kind with all of the guests. Promise them i will stay at this hotel if i come back to Shanghai and will recomend this hotel with my friend who want to travel to Shanghai. The facilities are very good to. The bed and room is so comfort, and they have a cozy lobby. There is 2 PC you can use anytime at the lobby and the pool table behind the receptionist. The receptionist is 24 hour. You can wash your clothes at the Laundry (you need pay with the coin to use the Washing Machine). They can help you to call the taxi too. Thanks for all the service you all give for me. Im very satisfied :)

Clean, comfortable, good local”
I spent a week at Chi Chen Boutique hotel and found it a good value, comfortable hotel. Its a short metro ride out of the main city area, but I found that a good thing. If you stay here make friends with Louie, the manager, he is a nice guy, speaks very good English and will tell you the best places to visit. Happy to recommend this place to other travelers.

A Pleasant Stay”
You will never regret for choosing to stay in this hotel. Although this hotel does not located close to any of the tourist spots (20mins walk to Yuyuan), it is within walking distance to metro Line 9 (Xiaonanmen station). We were first a bit upset when we were out from the metro station it appear to be a residential area rather than tourist spots. But we later appreciate this as we manage to get cheaper stuff from the roadside stalls set up at night. And of course, restaurants nearby are at cheaper price and offer tasty food. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are very very clean and the housekeeping ladies are very friendly too! We would definitely come back to this hotel if we were to visit Shanghai in future.

Been here 30.11.2016 to 02.12.2016 . A nice stay in this hotel with friendly and helpful staff, convenient location. Really appreciate that hotel let us to check in early and take a rest since the room was ready. Nice and clean room. 90% matching what I expect. Equipped with toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet roll, hair dryer, TV, kettle. There is a grocery shop that open 24*7 and steamboat shop besides the hotel. Only a few steps away from bus station to famous Cheng Huang temple (11 road line) and just right opposite metro lrt. **if you got large size luggage please remember to use exit 3 for metro lrt because exit 2 has no escalator or lift. Only drawback of the hotel: it has no lift. Somehow the reception is kind to help us to take the luggage up to second floor. Will definitely choose this hotel again if I visit Shanghai.

Chi Chen Hotel is near Exit 2 Subway Line 9: Xiaonanmen 小南门 after crossing Zhonghua road 中华路 around 90m walking. There is pool table, coffee shop with nice view and decoration. It is close to Xinyuan Supermarket 新园超市.

What you see is what you get”
The place is exactly as advertised. The pictures are exactly what the place looks like without tricky angles to make it look bigger or nicer. The English speaking staff, Louie especially, are very helpful and informative. The rooms are very clean and the water is hot. The washer works well but the dryer is a waste of space and bigger waste of money (not exclusive to this hotel. The dryers in China are generally not very useful). The place is fifty meters from the subway exit and a fifteen minute walk from the Nanjing Shopping District, Bund, Old Warf and a famous old tea house garden that I just happened to find by chance, though there were tour buses all over the place. One word of caution, though the rooms without windows are cheaper, you'd be surprised how important it is to get sunshine in the room.

Location is superb, just a min away from subway (Xiao Nan Men). Hotel is just located right behind the subway. a lot of eatery in the afternoon and morning, and shops/market around. Staff is super friendly and make sure all the guest are comfortable with the room. they have a cool cafe downstair where you can mingle with friend/other guest. Room is superb with theme, slightly dark in lighting but acceptable. will surely stay in this hotel again if coming to shanghai.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel! My double room was extremely spacious and it was very clean. The room was cleaned every day and supplies replenished. The location is pretty ideal too, right at the doorstep of Xiaonanmen station. I would definitely come back again if I'm in Shanghai!

First time when I saw this hotel from outside, I think ‘What the hell!!’. But when I walked to chk in and see the room its change my mind, The room very nice, fully of basic facilities and clean. Also helpful staff (They can speak English) and the best thing is location that 100 m to Metro and 20 minute to The bund.

Near to meteor station , Good Location ”
That is a good location if you choose this hotel, it is quite convenient when going to meteor station which call xiao nan men, I use up around 100 for meteor in 10 days , traveling around xiao nan men.this hotel is clean and the staff is quite friendly, beside the hotel got one convenient shop, opposite hotel was the bank and got one more convenient shop beside it. The location is quite easy to found, just exit 3 and turn right and turn right again then you can see the hotel is beside a convenient shop ^_^ By the way ShangHai is not fun beside disneyland, the thing is too expensive and those ppl in there is not polite.

A nice hotel at an affordable rate”
Generally, I liked the hotel and enjoyed our stay here. Staffs were friendly and nice and all, but one thing annoyed me during my stay. I requested a taxi to the airport but the staff had me ride the cab with a stranger without letting us. Two others just hopped on the same taxi as mine when the taxi got to the hotel. Ever worse, the taxi was 30 minutes late from the time I asked for. We almost missed our flight. FYI, Location is close to one of the MRT station but it requires an unnecessary transfer from main touristic areas. I still think it's the best budget hotel at that range of rate in Shanghai.

Reasonable price hotel near station”
I chose no-window room to lower my budget. The room was small but clean. The only thing that bothering me was the smell which I guess it comes from piping in bathroom. I was traveling with my colleague so it was a bit awkward to have the see-through-glass bathroom. I love the location even I lost into the small road with taxi driver before we found the hotel. The taxi driver didn't know the way so he followed his GPS. The subway station is just across the street. There are some local food stalls nearby and convenience store as well. On Sat night, there is a big group of old people singing and dancing at the intersection. I like to see how locals live. I will stay in this hotel again if I visit Shanghai next time.

Cheap hotel very near to subway ”
Hotel location is very convenient with the subway just next to it and bus station on the Main Street. It is easy to get to Yuyuan and the Bund from the hotel. The room is big and clean too.

Perfect for a Budget”
Would I stay here again? Yes! In fact, I already have. I stayed there for one night on my way through Shanghai and there made a second reservation for my way back through two weeks later. The first room was small but tidy. The second was spacious and tidy. I preferred the second even though they apologised for its lack of window. On the second night, I had a very early departure to get to the airport. They easily arranged for a driver to be there at 3:00 a.m. and off I went.There is little in the way of frills here, but they are friendly, well-located and inexpensive. I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for a place to stay for a week with the family, but as a solo traveler or as someone just passing through, this place will prove ideal. One thing, I would wish for clearer directions on getting there from the subway. Go to Exit 3 of Xiaonanmen Station, face the road, turn right and walk to the lights. Turn right again and the hotel is shortly there on your right.

We took ten rooms in this place and it was great, we were in Shanghai for a conference with teenagers and they loved the location - easy access to hot food and snacks, and it's near the Metro and the markets. Nothing better in terms of location and we were comfortable too.
