Tokyu Stay Shinjuku
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"Our home away from home at Tokyu Stay was truly wonderful! It’s a small friendly cozy hotel in the middle of or alleyway of lots of little restaurants and shopping! The hotel is quite clean and the staff are so accommodating and friendly!!! The rooms and beds are truly small not the standard size you would expect in the U.S. we booked the small double room and the beds are about the size of a full size bed. The plus is that they have a washer dryer to wash your clothes. The bathroom is decent with a bidet! Small restaurants are a few steps away outside the hotel and even big department stores and small drugstores are about 5 minutes or less a walk away. JR Shinjuku Station is quite close and the San-chome train station is a minute walk away. My sister who has been to Japan many times and is well traveled also loved the location of the hotel. This is the perfect hotel if you want to explore shinjuku area and be close to JR Shinjuku Station! Would definitely recommend this hotel!"

Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"I stayed at Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku Hotel during May 8th-11th and May15th-18th 2009. The hotel is situated in an extremely convenient location. Shinjuku is a busy area, but the hotel is located near JR southern entrance exit, which is a more quiet and calm area. Shijuku Shopping area (east exit) and Kabukucho are just a few minutes walk. Takashimaya and Tokyu Hand are just across the train tracks. You just need to walk across the walking bridge through the terrace, which takes only 3 minutes. AMPM 24 hours convenient shop is right across the street. Near by the hotel are a nice ramen place, kristpy cream, starbuck, local cafes, yoshinoya, Mc Donald's, First Kitchen and many more restaurants. If you're going to Roppongi, you can just take a Toei Subway located a few steps from the hotel. Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is the best place to stay whether you're a business traveler or a tourist. I'll definitely stay there again next time. "

"Great location in Shinjuku. 5 mins walk to JR Shinjuku. Hotel is part of the Gozilla mall where loads of food places around and a cinema right below the hotel. Room is small as usual in Japan but very nice decor. Loves the bathroom. Room is also provided with a humidifier which helps with the dry air. Take note that the rooms are all non-smoking, i got locked out because of vaping my e-cig and Iqos in room. Apparently they say these are cigarettes too. There's a smoking room at the lobby though The Takoyaki balls is a must try below the hotel. Opens till late "

JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Shinjuku
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"Located very close to Shinjuku station (JR/NEX), and the bus station is at the same location towards Haneda airport. For those who want to go to Tokyo Big Sight for shows, there is a direct train from platform 1 Saikyo line. There is a Macdonald's right at the corner and loads of food at Shinjuku central if you walk a little. Yodobashi/BIC is 5-10min away on foot. The room size is bigger compared to Sunroute on the next street with similar pricing. The room had nice touches like a heated mirror (works great after a shower), mobile phone with unlimited data and free roaming calls to some countries (great for tourist), full size complimentary water and bottled shower foam and shampoo. Definitely my new fav hotel in Shinjuku. "

Shinjuku Granbell Hotel

"Our second time in Tokyo and our first stay in Shinjuku. Reading all the other reviews good and bad and watching tons of Youtube videos. I can honestly say this little gem is perfect for everything, location, pricing and cleanliness. Located on the eastern side of Shinjuku you will find yourself with in a 4 min walk to Golden Gai, (A must see and experience for yourself area) The rooms are normal size for Tokyo if you want larger pay more and don't complain because you are frugal. After stalking the prices for weeks we finally found a really good price that included breakfast, normally we don't do breakfast but it was worth the extra 11 bucks a day and the breakfast was enormous and far far better then any skimpy European breakfast we had during out travels. The rooms were very clean and we stayed in a economy double on the 16th floor with a great view. They have a rooftop bar on the 13th floor landing that looked out over the city, they have daily happy hours and a decent menu as well at the rooftop bar. The front desk staff is more then helpful and will direct you and give you maps to anyplace you want to go. If you are a shopper , most big stores are by Shinjuku station which is about a 10 min walk. The area is very safe and you have tons of choices of food with in a couple min walk. I tried to cover all the bases here because I read a couple reviews that just seemed ridiculous and I want everyone to be upfront because thats how we book our hotels. Let me explain, if you have 4 to 5 Large suitcases and book a small double room for 3 or more people you get what you purchased its 15 SQ meters plus bath room they have larger that only cost 20 to 30 bucks more. The food in the restaurants was superior to or equal to most of the 4 to 5 stars we have stayed in. The area is a have a good time area , that is why you are staying in Shinjuku ! If you are looking for a hotel in Shinjuku and on a medium priced level then this far exceeds your perimeters."

Shinjuku Prince Hotel
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"My daughter and I checked into Shinjuku Prince Hotel on 7-9 May 09. The reason for choosing Shinjuku Prince was because the proevious guest house that we stayed at Hatagaya was cramped and uncomfortable. We choose Shinjuku Prince also partly because it was recommended by our friend who had stayed at the hotel. Upon check in the receptionist was very courteous and helpful. The procedure was swift and we got our room within seconds. As we stepped into the room, we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful layout and design. Though it was rather small in term of size (semi Twin Room), it was compensated by its beautiful layout and design. The room is certainly very comfortable and we enjoyed it. It has all the amenities you needed in a hotel setting except a boiler where you could make yourself a cup of tea or coffee. Other than this we absolutely have no complaint of the room. As Shinjuku Prince is located in the heart of Shinjuku and the railways and subway station, it makes travelling around Shinjuku and beyond a breeze. We enjoyed the shopping and dinning around Shinjuku and there are certainly plenty of restaurants and shopping that one could keep him or herself occupied. Overall we certainly had a lovely and beautiful stay at Shinjuku and enjoyed our holidays in Japan. It is absolutely memorable! "

Shinjuku Washington Hotel - Main Building
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"Overall, we enjoyed staying at Washington Hotel in Shinjuku. My husband and I went to Ni-Chome quite often since it was the "gayborhood" of Shinjuku and they have a lot of bars, etc. It was a $10 cab ride tho back and forth, but anyone can take the subway and save $$$. Plus Harajuku (Fashion Capital of the Japan) was only 2 stops away from the JR Shinjuku line. It was pretty good. Would I stay again @ Washington Hotel? Sure. I would specifically just ask for a NON-SMOKING room. Everything IS expensive (for the most part I mean) in Japan but it's all worth it. Definitely made my experience worth-while. I LOVE the country. Hundred Stay Tokyo Shinjuku
Shinjuku,Shinjuku - View on map
"Perfect location very near Okubo and Shin Okubo stations, great staff, breakfast, huge rooms with kitchenette, microwave, etc., separate toilet and bath.. Well stocked bathroom amenities, coffee, tea in the room.. One of the staff, Mr. Konno, was very helpful in facilitating the transfer of our luggage from this hotel in Shinjuku straight to our hotel in Osaka. In fact our 4pc luggage were waiting for us already in our room when we arrived. (I recommend this luggage service to travelers going to and from Osaka-Tokyo for hassle free transfers in trains or buses.) Good job, Hundred Stay! We will stay here again when in Shinjuku! "

More about Shinjuku

Shinjuku is a district that gets a lot of attention in Tokyo. It was founded in the17th century to cater to feudal lords and has remained highly relevant in local society. The country’s first skyscraper was built in what became the Shinjuku Skyscraper District, a spread of high-rise architecture near Shinjuku Central Park. Squarely in the middle of the district is JR Shinjuku Station, the busiest commuter hub in the entire country.

Today, Shinjuku is synonymous with nightlife, and hotels around Shinjuku are popular with backpackers and budget travelers who want to be as close to the after-hours action as possible. The best nightlife follows Kabuki-cyo east of the central station.

Shinjuku may not have the high-street shopping appeal of Ginza, but it still has an outstanding selection of malls. The most popular place to shop is the Shinjuku Isetan flagship store. The National Stadium also generates traffic here.

Despite the partying and commercialism of Shinjuku, there are a few places where weary travelers can escape the crowds and enjoy a few minutes’ peace. The Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine is a high-ranking sightseeing attraction well worth an hour or two. Another beautiful place to escape for quiet stroll is Shinjuku Gyoen Park, which was originally laid out for the imperial family.

Most of the accommodation in Shinjuku huddles around the central railway station. Since this is the biggest commuter hub in the country, retailers vie for consumer attention with flashy advertisements here. Commuters also make use of lesser hubs in the area, including JR Takadanonbaba Station and JR Yoyogi Station.
