A little dated but still comfortable”
The rooms were clean and comfortable (apart from the abysmal pillows) but it's looking a bit drab and dated inside the rooms. Also, people are clearly smoking on the non-smoking floors. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. The room was really reasonable for a Sofitel, but I guess that's a reflection on it being a little tired now. Worth it if you can get a good deal.
I would like to compliment your staff Emma, who provided an excellent service and attitude. Her positive service allowed me to have a very enjoyable and memorable stay in Sofitel Chengdu. I will definitely return.
Hotel Service were very much under par for a 5 stars category establishment”
Generally the hotel is acceptable if you are not really particular and if your stay is just an overnight stay. But recently we were staying there as a family (Booked 3 Junior Suite Rooms) for 4 nights and found that their attention to details were definitely lacking. When one decided to stay at a 5 Stars Hotel, one definitely expected services and attention to details provided will be much better than just average as one paid a higher room rate exactly for that reason. When this basic expectation from a paid guest were not even being satisfied then it would be rather disappointing to say the least. Reason for my disappointment are as follow. Buffet Breakfast & Dinner. - Waiter & Waitresses were not attentive in clearing the table which were stacked with finished plates and cutlery. Food were not being refilled after they were fully consumed by earlier guests. Food stations where certain cooking were required (Noodle Station), there were no one on standby.
It is not easy to find a western-style breakfast on the mainland. In Chengdu, fortunately, the breakfast at the Sofitel Hotel is really impossible to challenge. A cup of ground coffee, delicious yoghurt, authentic French bread, bread pudding and French Bonne Maman jam are all wonderful. Of course, the hotel staff are well trained in service and are also important factors. Of course, Chinese-style meals are just as delicious, and a chef who cooks noodles cooks a delicious Sichuan-style pasta. Chinese dishes are also very rich, so to speak, no matter the Chinese or Western breakfast, the Sofitel Hotel offers a delightful and memorable breakfast. I am looking forward to seeing you again in Chengdu next time. I can stay at the Sofitel Hotel again and experience another wonderful experience.
luxury hotel with excellent staff”
I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. It is a new hotel. Excellent conditions. Reasonably near city centre and nightlife district. The best thing is the staff. Very nice and friendly, and professional as well.
Good Hotel and Good Location”
Well situated hotel, close to most transport. Hotel is "old Charm" in appearance, while the staff are pleasant and helpful. Booking in was a breeze and were very quick to provide information on some location that we needed. The housekeeper that serviced our room (Li Rongxiang) was very good, kept the room clean with replenishing of the tea and coffee etc. We chose not to book with breakfast included, which is due to our dietary requirements (light breakfast), and thus to eat at the hotel would not be value for money. We chose instead to have breakfast with our son over at Mrs Panda, (Backpackers), which was a short walk away to the opposite side of the river. The hotel has good amenities - swimming pool (don't forget a swim cap - male or female). All in all, good value we would stay here again. The only problem we encountered with the area, is that the maps provided are not clearly marked in relation to the street names and you have to use land marks to navigate your way around the city. As and example, if you'd like to pop into a Catholic church, catch the mrt to Tianfu Sq, and walk up on the left hand side of Mao statue (Xihuamen street). Recommend the map from Mrs Panda - which at least has land marks. Reasonable places to eat, Penghuo, Mrs Panda, and a Tibetan style restaurant to the right of the Penghuo restaurant (it looks like a wooden shack under a few trees), situated on E - Linjiang middle road W-. Another attraction would be a visit to Wen Shu Monastery, take mrt, purple line to Wen Shu Monastery, but note that not many of the street signs refer to it by this name... Advisable to take an umbrella with you, either for shade from the sun or shelter from the rain, and comfortable shoes.. Good places around the monastery for buying nik-naks such as tea cups and tea's.
Recent holiday in China”
We loved our recent stay at the Sofitel. When we arrived, we were upgraded to the executive suite. This was great. Lovely big room, with fantastic facilities and the use of the executive dining room on the 23rd floor - the guys there couldn't have been more helpful - thanks to Jessica, Iris, Vine, Denis and Conny for looking after us so well - and the food was great - and all included! The hotel was only ten minutes walk from the town centre and a subway train station was just around the corner. We will definitely go back there is we go to Chengdu again
NIce luxury hotel”
We had a large executive room and they upgraded our other to executive too when agoda's booking didn't get through. Luckily i had my laptop and was able to show our reservation. Went around a few hotels, and Sofitel's lobby pulled us in. BUT their bed? I told the manager that someone was either lazy or corrupted. The bed was very disappointing. So we moved back to Buddhazen which have great beds, in a quiet place ( a little further away from city centre), cheaper, feels like a traditional inn although they sell it as boutique, dark at night. But when you just want to sleep, it's very comfortable. Didn't want to waste more time to look for other hotels.
Everything average, staff service superb”
Food served in ant portions, and neither appetizing nor taste good. The staff provided really good service and were always friendly. The swimming pool is only meant for tall people and professionals. No one else. Period. The gym had a lovely view.
Hotel is very nice. Location is ok, not great but ok. There arent really any (western) restaurants nearby. We ate only in the hotel which was actually nice. Breakfast is great but as always over priced. It is worth noting that all over China hotel staff were not familiar with our Agoda hotel vouchers and needed some persuading that the voucher meant the room had already been paid for!
all staff were great, especially eric and sarah at reception and frank in the western dining room. they were exceptionally helpful. we were stuck out in the freezing cold rain one night and couldn't get a taxi so eric called a taxi for us and then rode in the taxi to come and pick us up. what service! hotel is a little dated but lovely nonetheless.
Probably the best hotel in town, but not perfect”
I was supposed to get a deluxe room with river view. When I arrived (admittedly late in the evening), no such rooms were available anymore, so they upgraded me to a suite. However, this was a smoking room and you could smell it! I asked for a non-smoking room but all they had left was a standard room without river view. The room was nevertheless more than adequate for my needs. There is only one non-smoking floor in the hotel (the 5th floor as I recall) and it doesn't have the best rooms/views. Unfortunately, this is all too common in China, where luxury hotels cater mostly to chain smoking Chinese businessmen. The location is convenient, inter alia because it's close to the bus station. I made a day trip to Leshan by bus. The only problem is that the hotel staff seem to think it's inappropriate for a guest in a 5-star hotel to travel by bus, so they won't spontaneously recommend it. The breakfast was very good, as you would expect from Sofitel. The late-night dining possibilities are however quite poor.
Nice Hotel, average Staff”
Overall a decent stay. Comfortable rooms and a good location with access to anything you like in Chengdu. The only problem i had was with the staff. On arrival, i was queried for 30mins about my payment for the rooms. The lady at reception would not accept that any issue needed to be dealt with by them, and she wetn as far to try tell me how my own internet banking worked in my home country. at breakfast, we were not welcomed, nor shown to a table. No one asked for our room number, so we simply had breakfast and left. I find this a recurring theme in China, and most hotels that could be great, fall woefully short on their customer service and staff etiquette. This needs to be addressed by a foreign hotel manager!
Great service, kind and considerate managers”
I have stayed in many hotels before and often you cant locate the right switches for the curtains or certain lights, in this hotel features are easy to understand and easy to use. Certainly made life easy for me and I could stay there for days.
Lovely hotel with swimming pool and great service”
we had a lovely 2 night stay here. when we arrived our queen room wasn't ready so they gave us a free drink in the bar while we waited. we then went out to explore and when we arrived back a few hours later and it still wasn't ready they upgraded us to a suite which was amazing! there were quite a few chinese staying there for business and very few tourists. we had breakfast in our room which was ok but nothing special and the coffee was brewed rather than a fresh cafitiere. on a busy road so we had to get a taxi to find local restaurants. overall i would definitely recommend this hotel.
The Sofitel Wanda Chengdu was an incredible hotel. The rooms were beautiful, the service was professional, and the location was perfect. They also provide free broadband internet access if you have your own laptop, otherwise RMB80 a day if you use the computer they provided in the room. The see-through shower is very romantic for honeymooners.
Need to update the hotel - a bit old”
Breakfast is 3 stars out of 5 stars for a five star hotel
Great place to stay, is on a small river”
