Hotels near St. Kilda Road have many of Melbourne's major tourist attractions on their doorstep, and the area is well-connected to the city center by tram. St Kilda Road connects the Central Business District of Melbourne with the suburb of St Kilda. A stroll along this majestic tree-lined boulevard takes visitors to Alexandra Gardens, Victorian Arts Centre, National Gallery of Victoria, the Victorian College of the Arts and Victoria Barracks.
Alexander Gardens is known for its rowing sheds and magnificent palm trees, while Fawkner Park has public sports grounds. The Domain Parklands is home to a 15,000-person outdoor performance venue: Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Nearby, Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens are some of the world's finest and should not be missed. In the summer months, the gardens host theatre performances and an outdoor cinema with twilight screenings of classic and cult movies. The historic Victoria Barracks are also located along St Kilda Road and, in March each year, the St Kilda Road precinct hosts the free family festival, Melbourne Moomba Waterfest. The magnificent Shrine of Remembrance, a war memorial and unmistakable city landmark, offers wonderful balcony views of the city below.
