Overnight stay”

Booked this hotel simply on the cost for my daughter to stay in for her birthday. It was her first overnighter with her boyfriend & it was her birthday. Have to say, on entering the lift to reception I wondered if I had made a mistake! But when we got to reception it was a pleasant surprise! Fresh, modern, clean & welcoming! Reception staff were wonderful & helpful. It was a bit of a trek to the room, but wow! Corner room with beautiful bay windows overlooking the city. It was immaculate, clean, modern & just perfect. Free wifi! Huge bathroom with bath & shower. I couldn't have asked for better for a birthday treat! I highly recommend The Royal for a value for money stay in Cardiff. Central location & excellent service! We'll be back!

Excellent location”

The hotel is close to the city centre and is only a few minute walk from Cardiff Central station. A good base to explore the surrounding areas. Lots of eateries and supermarkets around. Bus stops are just around the corner in Westgate and we took the bus to St Fagan Musuem (which is excellent and we highly recommend for those who wish to learn more about the Welsh history). We also took the train to Llantwit Major (about 40 mins from Cardiff Central station), walked along the heritage coastal trail to Nash Point Light House took the bus from Macross to Llantwit Major train station. An easy relaxing walk along the cliffs with stunning view of the Bristol Channel on one side and rolling grassland and wheat field on the other. All in all, we enjoyed Cardiff and felt lucky to have chosen this hotel.

Comfort and assessibility rolled into one. ”

The cleanliness and cozziness of the room. The hotel is at the heart of the city and very close to St David's Mall. The train and bus station are just a few mins walk away. Staff are very professional

It was my very first time in Cardiff so I did not know what to expect. The hotel is classy and well furnished. Rooms are very clean and air-conditioned. I had a very comfortable stay. I could walk almost everywhere in the city because of the hotel's location. My room was on the 3rd floor and had a lovely view of the city. Will definitely recommend the Royal Hotel.

Great location and value ”

My husband and I stayed for one night as we were traveling around the U.K. and Ireland. The hotel was in a perfect central location in Cardiff, walking distance to lots of restaurants and the Cardiff Castle which we visited during our stay. The bed was comfortable and room well equipped, staff was friendly; overall we were very happy and would stay again should we visit the area. Only downside was parking is a couple blocks away (the hotel is located on a street that appeared to be only for pedestrians) but we were only traveling with a couple bags and this was not bothersome for us.

So comfortable”

The comfort, design and spaciousness of the room.

Entry into the hotel gave a hint to it's exclusivity though it was situated above what is probably a very busy pub and on a busy corner very near to the centre of Cardiff. Within it was peaceful and beautifully decorated. Everything was clean, though there was a small crack in the sink in my room. This didn't mar a very pleasant stay. The room was exactly as advertised, spaceous and modern as would be expected of a Bespoke hotel. The pillows on the bed were so soft and comfortable that I have been seeking out similar since my return home. I had a bottle of Welsh cider from the bar which compared most favourably to my preferred brand. Over all I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in the city centre - apart from the view from the window you would not know that you were in a busy city. Very convenient for the train station though parking nearby was not as easy.

High Quality and Very Convenient”

I had a great time staying at this hotel. It is right in the middle of Cardiff City and very near to Cardiff Central Station. The hotel itself is of a high quality for you to enjoy and make a base to explore the beautiful city of Cardiff. The room is pleasently decorated, topped up with toiletteries and amenities such as iron and ironing board, hair dryer and safe box. I had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Little gem”

From the outside doesn't look impressive, although I believe it's the oldest hotel in Cardiff, and as the reception is on the 2nd floor, after meandering through corridors for the lift or stairs (dependant on entrance used) slightly off putting, but once IN the hotel staff were so friendly and accommodating. Large rooms (mine was a standard so the superiors must be massive) , big screen TV, sizeable wardrobe, ironing facilities (going for an interview so very welcome), and good sized bathroom I used the bar for a late drink, comfortable, friendly and nice atmosphere but didn't do breakfast so can't comment Location - bang on - shops, bars and restaurants all around but from the room couldn't hear any noise. Stay again - Yes

First Visit to Cardiff”

Central location, Price and Convenience

It was very comfortable and the room was large and spacious. Some items in the room were a little old (the bin in the loo was broken and required manual handling to open the lid to dispose of rubbish). The room was clean but didn't offer basic items like tissue, lotion or complementary drinking water. Tea, coffee and kettle was available in the cupboard. The beauty of the hotel is its quaintness for its age, central location that allows you to walk straight onto the pedestrian walkway for shopping, loads of food and drinking options available by your doorstep and close enough to walk to some sights like the Cardiff castle and Millennia Stadium if you have limited time between your work to see part of the city. The price was good value for money but it would have been even better if it included breakfast. The free wifi was patchy but the double windows in the rooms ensured peaceful rest even if there was noise from the walkway, stadium or traffic.

Very comfortable and down town centre of Cardiff”

Central location, comfortable room, excellent service and helpful staff

We were excited to find a comfortable room down town centre where we could walk just 3 mins to get to the central bun-train station. The room was large and the service was excellent and very fast. Hotel is located within the shopping area of Cardiff and I Could say that I enjoyed the view of the city which was superb from the 5th floor where we stayed. I did not have time to enjoy the 55 inch tv ! But I worked easily from my laptop since the wifi was ultra fast. I can give only one negative point which is the absence of fridge within the room. Otherwise I would definitely recommend and for sure I would visit again

Nice quick getaway from daily grind”

Excellent location, service and staff

Hotel, to my surprise, was mere meters away from Cardiff Central Station; a bonus when you have been traveling via rail for five hours! Lifts to hotel rooms did not work, but staff were more than accommodating to assist where needed. Room was spacious, though the shower was smaller than expected (do note I am nit-picking to find flaws here). Bed was comfortable and room was quiet, seeing as there was a nightclub next door. Due to the broken lift, a £10 bar voucher was offered and used. Brilliant Caipirinha by the way, so compliments to the barman. I could spend ages here saying how good it was, but I won't. I'll keep this hotel in mind though when I next come to Cardiff.

Lovely hotel well refurbished and good staff”

Location, Staff and the room was a good size

very nicely refurbished hotel that has been well designed. Room was clean and comfortable and staff were very good. It is well located in the centre of Cardiff and close to the castle and shops. Was surprised they had no Cheese on a Friday night or the rest of the weekend. I was a bit disappointed not to get some fine Welsh cheese on the first night, but the staff were nice about it.

Fun stay in wales!”

The hotel is perfectly positioned for central Cardiff, staff were extremely good and very attentive, reception always greeted you with a smile & hello! I would like to thank sue our lovely breakfast waitress, also the very nice male waiter that was on duty with her, they made us all feel very welcome, it was my birthday. I do think breakfast should be included in the price as you pay seperatly. Thanks for a great stay.
