Situated in the South West of the island, all roads on the island lead to Thong Sala. Principally used by tourists arriving from Koh Samui as a jumping-off point, Thong Sala has a newly opened cinema, the island’s only two Thai Boxing stadiums and a paintball battlefield as well as the obligatory internet cafes, pharmacies, scooter rental firms, banks, and post office.
Morning and evening markets sell fresh seafood, meat, fruit and vegetables, while the shops in the town center sell everything from sunglasses to local arts and crafts. Restaurants and pubs offer Thai, Isaan, English and Italian fare.
Nightlife options are limited compared to nearby Haad Rin, but a string of bars line the road from Thong Sala to Ban Tai.
Some traditional Thai massage shops offer lessons, and there is a free aerobics class every evening at Lomprayah Pier.
