Unplan Kagurazaka quickly became our "home" during our time in Tokyo. After long days walking around the city, I often looked forward to getting back to the hostel and crawling into one of the most comfortable beds I had during my whole time in Japan. Bathroom was always kept clean, never had any problems with the other guests in the dorm room, and always felt safe. I loved that the hostel also doubled as a cafe/bar. The main lounge area was a great place to chill out, and one of my local friends even told me it was her favorite lunch spot when she lived in the neighborhood. Staff was great! My friends and I did an izakaya (pub/bar) tour with two staff members and we had an amazing time hanging out with them and exploring the neighborhood. The location of Unplan Kagurazaka is a bit more residential, but that added to the positive feeling of being at home. We were within close distance to two subway stations, and it was always an easy ride to the main areas of Shibuya or Shinjuku. Definitely staying again in the future!
Nice Place To Stay”
The location is close to a nearby Metro Station so navigating your way around busy Tokyo is easier. All the staff here were amazingly friendly, kind and helpful. The facilities were always clean (and there is a bath at this hostel which was great to soak in if you were sore from a big day of trekking around the city). There's a cafe/bar on the bottom floor of the hostel which had a relaxed vibe to it and the free breakfast was an added bonus. The beds were comfortable with ample storage for your belongings. This was by far one of my favourite places to stay during my trip through Japan, I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Tokyo.
Loved my stay at Unplan! The bed was super comfy with space to put your bag and compartments to store your valuables. The breakfast was pretty basic, but good and filling enough for the day. I really loved the atmosphere here, it was really nice, airy, and laid back. They have a little rooftop lounge if you want to chill and have a few social events if you want to meet some new people.
Simple fuss free stay”
Hostel was located in a quiet neighbourhood; and was peaceful for a good night's sleep. Located near a subway, making it convenient for getting around. Room was clean with the added bonus of a simple breakfast of toast and eggs plus a drink. Staff were friendly and helpful as well. Overall a pleasant stay.
My first time and stop in Japan and a really great place to stay! Staff were super friendly and helpful, everything was clean and tidy along with a cool atmosphere. Location is a bit out but it was good to get used to the metro! & the dorm beds got a bit warm inside but nothing too hot. Would definitely stay again
New, clean hostel.”
Not a bad location. Friendly staff. New building with good facilities - functional bunks and shared showers. Complementary breakfast nice but rental towels - would prefer the other way around.
Small but nice hostel”
The hostel is around 7 min walk from kagurazaka sta exit 2, turn right u will see sevel and turn right before sevel, turn left and go straight around 4 min and u will see the hostel in the right side. Nice decoration and simple room. I booked family room for 4 ppl and a bit tight for us including the bathroom inside was so small. But they have a toilet outside the room. They have a common ground whereas complete with sofa, TV, microwave, refrigerator, kitchen and dining room. Its too bad that i only stayed for a night, it was nice hostel.
Near to Exit 2 of Kagurazaka Metro Station. Quaint and quiet neighborhood. Clean space. Dormitory type is not for light sleeper. Free breakfast. Accommodating and hip staff. Easy check in and out process. Towels for rental.
Unplan is a nice modern hostel, as with most hostels in Japan the staff is friendly and excellent and the facilities are super clean. Other good things: restaurant / bar at lobby level; front patio; rooftop deck; super nice bathtub with shower; comfortable bunk; FREE Android phone with unlimited data that you can take out with you; 7 minute walk to Kagurazaka station. The downsides: no Japanese options on the menu (all western food); rooftop deck time limited to mostly daylight; very narrow locker space in bunk with cheap lock; annoying code entry to room (key card would be better); this last negative is beyond Unplan’s control but it seems quite a few of the guests were in full on party mode, drunk, noisy, setting off bunk door alarm, wearing shoes in bunk area and actually smoking in a bunk. Totally selfish towards other guests. Six weeks in Japan and this was the only place this happened. Foreign peeps, especially Americans and Canadians need to wise the F up when travelling.
Best experience in Tokyo”
The staff are nice and efficient. The room is spacious and clean, even with widows and a view. The free breakfast is great. The cocktail they offer is amazing yet cheap. I have nothing to complain about this place and I’m definitely going back!
Quiet Neighborhood, Great Hostel”
Loved the facilities and the staff were fantastic and very helpful. The area is very quiet and nice, but inconvenient of you're planning on being out late, as a lot of the businesses in the area close around 11.
Good enough for me to come back. ”
Everything was nice. Location just 5 minutes away from the station and just 1 transfer to go to the airport be it Haneda or Narita. Staffs are nice and friendly, The rooms bathrooms, common area, bar, and cafe are neat, clean and well lit.
A gem hidden in Kaguraka”
In this small homey feeling hotel, this is really a good place if you need to hideaway from the busy cities and hectic life. Conveniently located in between 2 different subway/train lines, the transportation is really convenient and rows of restaurants and convenient stores are just right at every corner. In fact, if you are too lazy to go out, just chill with a nice cuppa coffee at the hotel café/rooftop. Definitely worth going back again.
Clean and good facilities”
Bath and toilet cubicle for ladies dormitory are connected so there is no hassle to go to another level or out of the room. Staff are friendly and welcoming, every time you move in and out the place. Breakfast is basic but enjoyable. Quiet neighborhood but homely.
Love this place, even it location quite far from everywhere (need a bit walk to nearest station but a fun walk) but I love the quit environment. The space quite bigger that other similar hostel so make me feel more comfortable. I am sure will be back if I visit Japan again.
Clean room and bedding, excellent service”
I was travelling alone & staying in a big dorm. The hostel is conveniently located 5 mins from Kagurazaka station and it's easy to find. The service was great with bright smile. The room was very clean & tidy,. With the curtains, I could sleep in a completely dark capsule. The toilet is one of the best I've ever been to with great water power & big mirror!
I arrived in the hostel around 12 midnight. The nearby subway station doesn't have an escalator which really pissed me because I got a 20kg luggage with me. Good thing the hostel, it's staff, and everything were nice and accommodating. They serve unlimited hard-boiled egg, toasted bread, and orange/strawberry marmalade for the free breakfast with a single serving of either juice, coffee, milk, or tea. I stayed at the 2nd floor where the shower rooms and the washers/dryers are located (plus points). Overall, I had a great stay! It's just that the location, in my opinion, is not that strategic compared to other areas.
Modern, chic, convenient”
Pro: Great atmosphere and decor. Very modern and chic. Stayed in the female dormitory, Room A, great toilet and access to showers. Slippers are provided, plus shoe cabinet. The foyer was a great place to sit and use my iPad/computer with place to charge. Very clean as expected of Japan. They allowed me to check-in one hour earlier as rooms have already benn cleaned. Very much appreciated this. Rooms have wifi. :) Con: The security box is secured very weakly. Just a flap with a place to put your own lock. The hinge of my security box flap was already broken and unscrewed upon arrival. I suggest the premise install a proper locker system to store luggage and belongings. Other: Upon early checkout at 630am, I couldn't find the checkout paper that I was told to fill out. Just wrote a note instead. Tip: Must bring earplugs to any hostel. Overall, great place for my first time at a backpacking hostel. Much more privacy than other hostels which have just simple bunk beds.
Very nice designer hostel, perfect for solo traveller looking for cheap yet comfortable bed.”
Bed nicely closed of with curtain for privacy, with light, plug, and safety deposit box. Smooth check in/out, decent wifi, friendly staff. One of the shower cabins has an actual bath, good to relax at the end of a long journey!
Stayed in the female dormitory. The capsule and the shared bathroom is clean, other travellers were quite cooperative in not making too much noise. Capsule can get a little stuffy at night. Bed is comfy. Enjoyed chilling out in the morning at the rooftop terrace. Close to the Kagurazaka station but an important note for travellers: There's no lift/escalators at the Kagurazaka Station (Except the one for wheelchair users). Breakfast was basic with thick toasts, jams/butter, hard boiled eggs and coffee/tea/orange juice.
