Beijing Road is one of the premier shopping districts in Guangzhou. It’s a lively walking street buzzing with
merchants and Cantonese restaurants. This is a popular place for visitors from Hong Kong on shopping trips and is
also well worth a look by international visitors. This pedestrian market is extremely popular, and there several
hotels near Beijing Road that makes shopping even easier.
Haizhu Square is the other major commercial attraction. It’s on the north bank of the river along Line 2 of the
subway. Nearby Haizhu
Wholesale Market overflows with affordable products, from toys and souvenirs to home furnishings and clothing.
It’s essentially an extension of Beijing Road.
Beyond bargain hunters from Hong Kong, Guangzhou is also important for business travelers. Four- and five-star
accommodation near Beijing Road / Haizhu Square features comprehensive business facilities. These are nearest China
International Center and the Consulate
General of Vietnam.
International tourists rarely spend more than a night in transit from Hong Kong to Shenzhen and other mainland
cities. One of the main sites in the immediate area is Sacred Heart
Cathedral. It’s the largest church in Southern China and open to visitors on Sundays only. A few local museums
may also be of interest, but there’s no denying that commercialism is what this district does best. Visitors to the
area rarely venture far from Beijing Road.
