A pleasant boutique hotel based in an old manor type house. Has eight rooms , nice common/shared spaces and a rooftop pool. Location is in a great leafy neighborhood with good restaurants within walking distance and an easy tuk tuk to main attractions. This would be a great hotel if they invested a bit more into service, which though wasn’t bad certainly was not slick

Good Homely stay for doing business in Colombo”

Literally a home away from home. Well appointed. Excellent location close to many offices around colombo, with a taxi can avoid most of traffic due to central location. Peaceful oasis to get back after a day out. Service is quiet but effective. make sure to use the call button on restaurant tables to get service.:).

Centrally Located (depends though) for business”

Location close to many different parts of Colombo City. Helps avoid time in traffic if on business. Given the small number of rooms, they have less staff to attend, (which i guess help to keep room rate lower). but front desk staff super helpful. Check in was like 4 to 5 mins. For tourist may not be a good location . Nice bfast included (take a room with bf as there are no good places nearby.. Really quite zen like place.. great for those wanting to wind down day quietly.. a very homely place. Evening a short walk to ODEL dept store. (10 to 15 mins), nice pub and other eating places to chill out.

Stylish boutique hotel in central Colombo”

Zylan is a stylish alternative to the large Colombo hotels. The rooms are comfortable and a delicious fresh breakfast is served in a bamboo urban courtyard. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help where they can. Highly recommend.

Lovely place in embassy area”

This is a lovely little hotel well located in the heart of the leafy, colonial diplomatic district of town. Just down the street from very fancy Paradise Road hotel which is triple the price. The building is in great shape with a clean, modern renovation that works well with the classic lines of the original structure. Our room was large and included everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and had a larger menu of options than many other boutique hotels. Nice little shops and cafes within easy walking and just a short ride in a tuktuk to the CBD. We would definitely stay here again, although we might try a different place just because it looks like there are several interesting options in Colombo.

Good locations, rooms, and service”

The breakfast is good. The service staff can disappear sometimes but didn't take long for you to be able to flag one down. The room is nice but its not as "luxury" as the pics make it look. But I had no issues its a good place for the price I paid.

cosy boutique hotel”

Zylan is a very zen looking; cosy boutique hotel. It is conveniently located at district 7 of Colombo - which is very safe and centrally located. The room is very clean and we had a comfortable stay! The common space and place for breakfast was really pretty --- and zen-feel.

Excellent Hotel”

We fully satisfied to the hotel, especially for their excellent breakfast, also Japanese food which provided at the resturant with reasonable price. The staffs provided the excellent services with good service attitude. Anyway, we will come back again next time.

Excellent villa in the heart of the city”

We stayed in this hotel one night and found it is almost a home in the city of Colombo. The villa setup is extremely impressive where facilities like electric kettle, cable TV, Wi-Fi, verandah , bathrobes etc were.available. The location was ideal where access to many shops and attractions are closer. The service offered by the staff was good. The breakfast too was good where a lot of variety and quantity was evidenced. Overall a very good villa to stay.

Artistic hotel in the middle of city”

I stayed in Zylan in Oct 2013 and the experience was wonderful. The staff was friendly and they especially too good care of my 1 year old son. Visiting nearby places was also very easy as the hotel staff arranged a cab with driver to take us around Columbo and Kandy. The only downside was the delay in serving breakfast. Thumbs up all the way.

Stay was really nice and it felt more like sleeping in your own room than a hotel. Breakfast is really good, and the staff is just more than happy to bring you out some more of those croissants. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast in the peaceful Chinese inspired garden and also enjoyed sun baking next to the roof top swimming pool.We just stayed one night but the room was fantastic. Extremely service mindes and friendly staff. Great breakfast and nice design overall.

The hotel is close to museums and shopping area. The breakfast is good with generous portions. Only a few rooms available, so not too many people around. Ask for the room with the big balcony so you can hang out and watch the birds.

Very Pleasant”

I enjoyed my three night stay at the Zylan Luxury Villa and, budget permitting, would have been happy to stay longer. The hotel is actually a nicely re-designed house. The room was on the second (top) floor and was also nicely designed and very comfortable. Indeed, I have no complaints about anything and even if I had the helpful staff would no doubt have sorted it out. Zylan is located relatively close to where I was doing business but it might perhaps be a little out of the way for other guests. That said, the quiet location is also a benefit.

Stay was really nice and it felt more like sleeping in your own room than a hotel. Breakfast is really good, and the staff is just more than happy to bring you out some more of those croissants. the traditional breakfast, is quite alright. I don't think they're made inhouse. but I could be wrong. I didn't get to eat the hotel food outside of the breakfast, so i cannot comment about those. Walking distance from the hotel is a really good local restaurant serving both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. i was feasting like a king for 300 rupees. Walking distance too are a few 'department stores'. Malls are non existent in Columbo for now. Internet is crazy fast (fastest i've experienced for a hotel) with no restrictions whatsoever. Tons of tuktuks just outside the door. The complaints about dishonest local tuktuk drivers are uncalled for, as far as i am concerned. yes they refuse to use the meter. but even then they still charge you fairly cheaply for the ride. the location is in an area that houses many dignitaries and consuls, and wealthy families, which makes this area a really safe place. My only complaint would be... the cable tv. it would be nicer to have more english channels. HD would be nicer as well.

Good hotel, excellent internet, a little expensive”

All hotels in Sri Lanka seem to be unreasonably expensive. I would therefore normally expect a room of the quality at Zylan to be about 2/3 of the price. But that being said, Sri Lanka is unreasonably expensive, so I can't really hold that against Zylan alone. The hotel is really well designed, has excellent staff and good service. The rooms are big, comfortable, with good beds and a desk if you need to work. The television has lots of international channels, and the wifi is the best and fastest I've experienced in Sri Lanka. The showers are also good, as is the room service. The food in general is good, if a little on the expensive side. The breakfast included in my room price was excellent. All in all, if you want to stay comfortably near the center of Colombo, Zylan is an excellent choice.

Great little boutique hotel”

This hotel is elegant and is furnished exquisitely and tastefully. It is right in the heart of CMB 7, a luxurious part of town. The breakfast is either European but the Sri Lankan breakfast which I enjoyed has to be ordered the day before. The only drawback is the acoustics of the dining area, which gives out to the room at the back in which I was put...breakfast conversations and loud cell phone chats are carried very well into the room, which is irritating, but given the other pluses, can be ignored, though I did mention the need to insulate and sound-proof better to the reception staff.

A Home-away Home”

a really enthralling experience. we stayed for one night and enjoyed all moments out there. got a good deal from agoda. 1) villa : the ambiance was amazing. it was bit difficult to find out the hotel. it is opposite to south african embassy. but, once you are there, you will never feel any hassles of a busy town. a peaceful interlude can be found at zylan from the cacophony of town. 2) staff : though being to many *hotels, i haven't seen so dedicated, sincere and friendly folks.. all were very attendive, cooperative and helpful, by all means. the front office lead by mr. kapil, gave out an outstanding performance. as we were first to colombo, they were helping out to cut the unnecessary costs on transportantion, tour packages and getting the right vegetarian food. they took all efforts to make our stay a memorable one. 3) bedroom : large rooms with high roof. curtains were not heavy enough to block sun rays. 4) bathroom : bathroom is spacious and clean with separate private jacuzzi and bathing area. exhaust system (other than opening the windows) and the water outflow from the bathing area to be rectified. 5) mini swimming pool on roof top : luckily, not many guests were checked in during our stay and we had a good swimming session in a private mood. the staff did their best to maintain our privacy. nicely relaxed. 6)food : the ala-carte breakfast was also good. the food was served to the room, nicely decorated/dressed.. 7)shopping : odel mall is nearby. overall, it was a wonderful luxurious stay at zylan luxury villa.

boutique hotel in a great location, pleasant staff”

I always enjoy staying at Zylan as it has almost become a second home away from home for me... staff is very pleasant and tries to respond to your needs, hotel (which is like a large house) is well maintained and has nice features such as a gym and a rooftop pool. rooms are a bit disparate in size so you need to get used to that fact.

Awesome stay - best spot in Colombo!”

My wife and I stayed in a horrible hotel in Colombo 1 Hotel Grand Oriental, thinking that it would be a nice historical hotel near the main shopping sites, we were wrong. We moved to Zylan Villas and discovered a world of difference. It's easy to see why every guest at Zylan feels compelled to write gushing notes of praises in the hotel guest book, it's full of highly positive comments. The Villa is a beautifully designed boutique hotel with only 10 rooms but the decor and room with its quality amenities make our stay a comfortable, happy respite. The staff are obviously very well trained and ever so attentive and helpful. Plenty of initiative, and the best service you'll have in Colombo. Perfect stay. We will return!
