Traveler impressions of Bintan Island

More about Bintan Island

Largest of the Riau Island group, Bintan Island is one of Indonesia's fastest growing resorts. Most tourists arrive via ferry from Singapore or Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The ride takes one to two hours, and boats dock at Tanjung Pinang. Taxis are available from here for transport to any of the resorts on Bintan.

Most of the accommodation in Bintan Island is on the northeast coastline. Trikora Beach has been popular with backpackers and independent travelers for at least a decade. Away from the major resorts to the north, the beaches here are relatively secluded. This is the perfect place to explore island culture and potentially avoid the more commercial resort scene. Visitors can join island trekking tours, or they can charter a boat for fishing and island-hopping excursions.

Hang Nadim Airport is located on Batam, a neighboring island. Flights mainly connect from elsewhere in Indonesia, as it's more convenient for Singaporeans to reach the hotels of Bintan Island via ferry. A couple of weekly flights connect to Johor Bahru, for those arriving from Malaysia.

Be sure to check out the interactive map of Bintan Island for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
