Green Island Village is actually made up of several small villages that are scattered around the island, located off the coast of Taitung. The village can be accessed by boat, which is the more common method of travel for most visitors. However, it is also possible to take a flight from Taitung to the village’s very small airport.
While this island is surrounded by coral, most of the potential snorkeling areas are extremely dangerous because of the way the island is laid out. The sharp rocks and very powerful waves on most of the shoreline mean that it’s possible to sustain very serious injuries in not extremely careful. For this reason, the island has a few designated snorkeling areas that are safer and better guided by professionals, which is much more recommended than doing anything independently. One of the recommended snorkeling sites is Dabaisha Beach
, and most hotels near the beach have staff that are knowledgeable about tour groups and such for safe and enjoyable snorkeling and scuba diving activities.
When not relaxing on the beach or snorkeling in the water, be sure to check out the Human Rights Culture Park
on this island. This park home to a monument honoring political prisoners from the time of Taiwanese history known as the White Terror. The former prison has now been converted into a museum, while the old village is now a large exhibition hall. The entire structure is sure to take up at least an entire afternoon to explore.
