Traveler impressions of Kaohsiung

More about Kaohsiung

Taiwan’s second-largest city, Kaohsiung operates one of the most important ports in the world. Sometimes referred to as Taiwan’s harbor capital, the city serves a vital role in the country’s shipping industry.

Since the city has grown in popularity among vacationers, the harbor’s Cijin District is now home to a lively entertainment district, featuring many options for shopping, and dinning, as well as the popular Cijin Beach.

Kaohsiung is served by Kaohsiung International Airportand business travelers often choose the many accommodations near the airports while vacationers opt to head to the city center.

Through the tourism-driven restoration projects, the once-overlooked Love River has been transformed into an attractive destination with many public parks and promenades surrounding its banks. Most of Kaohsiung’s cultural attractions are centered on the Sanmin District, which is also home to some of the best cafes and accommodations in the city. This area is also where cultural landmarks such as the National Science and Technology Museum and the Kaohsiung Hakka Cultural Museum can be found.

Cafés, bars and fine-dining restaurants congregate near the train station, where the Liuhe Night Marketbegins after sunset. There are hundreds of food stalls at the night market, providing the perfect opportunity to indulge in local dishes.

Find out where the rest of Kaohsiung’s hotels, attractions, and must-see destinations are located by exploring the interactive map on this page.
