More about Matsuyama

Matsuyama is a large city with a homely and comforting atmosphere. There is much to see and do here, especially for those interested in Japanese temples, literary culture, and history. This business and shopping hub uses Matsuyama Airport as the entry point for travelers here.

Matsuyama makes for quite the destination with a range of sights and activities. A classic Japanese experience would be making a visit to Matsuyama Castle, and panoramic views of the site and city can be had from the nearby Matsuyama Central Park. A visit to a temple or shrine is sure to be in order thanks to there being a number of them in the city. Eight of Matsuyama’s temples, including Isheteji, are part of the 88 Temple Pilgrimage, making it a popular stop for those making the journey. The city’s most popular attraction is considered to be the Dogo Onsen Honkan. At over 3,000 years old, this onsen is the oldest and most famous in all of Japan. The city is also nicknamed the Town of Haiku, and aspiring writers and lovers of literature can take the Haiku Monument Tour to discover dozens of stones engraved with verses all around the city. The Ninomaru Historical Garden, Iyo Kasuri Folk Craft Museum, and Bansuiso are but a few more of the many offerings to be had at this destination.

Be sure to check out the interactive map of Matsuyama for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
