It was really nice staying at the hostel. we stayed in the private room - great room with balcony, good lighting and spacious bathroom. the hostel is pretty chilled out and quaint. It's a short walk from the main area and is pretty quiet.

It is a little hard to locate the hostel; it takes time and effort to reach it as it is on a slope. The staff are helpful and informative; some speak Engish. The dorms are not too big with 9 bunk beds. The room has big lockers to store lugguage. There are small lockers in the lounge next to the reception. You need to have your own locks for big lockers and ask for a key for the small one. Breakfast is complimentary and comprises a vareity of fruits and foods. Given the high cost of living in Rio, this is certainly a PLUS.

Pros: Located just outside the metro station. Low price. Reception staff does not speak English but generally pleasant. Cons: Kitchen does not have a stove despite having a rice cooker, microwave and oven. Rooms and commons areas, especially toilets are dirty. Showers are almost non-existent, with most broken, in repairs and filled with storage items or just locked. Only one upstairs was available for use. Cleaning staff entered and clean the room at 9:15am when another roommate and I was asleep with loud knocks, as a result I got woken up. Common sense dictates that cleaning of rooms are usually done between check-out and check-in times.

We enjoyed the central location, pool and (for once) substantial included breakfast. Wifi was good until it broke for two days and nobody seemed interested in fixing it. We also had an airport pickup arranged but nobody turned up, and the hostel didn't seem to know anything about it. Still we just got a taxi, cost us an extra $20 but not too big a deal

I came in at night from Sao Paulo. Hostel was a bit outside the town center, it was only a 10-minute walk from the bus station and not that difficult to find even at night. Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke fluent Spanish (which was better for my broken Spanish than my non-existent Portuguese). Got a whole room to myself but paid only around $40, because it wasn't peak season. Cool bar across the street on the beach. Same place where I had the complimentary breakfast the next day. In the morning, I left my stuff and rented a safety deposit box (you basically buy the padlock from them and the box is free to use). I walked around town all day and then came back for my stuff to catch the bus onward to Rio. Very pretty churches and town. Beach was ok but having the town as a backdrop made it better. I didn't head out to any of the nearby islands, which I heard had better beaches. All in all, still worth a stopover between Sao Paulo and Rio if you have an extra day.

This is my favourite hostel I've ever stayed in. I was there quite a while, ten nights, and the staff really made me feel like part of the family. They helped me with the research I was doing in curitiba, invited me to things, and I joined in with the family dinner on Mondays. Location is good, very close to shopping curitiba, easy to get around. And pepe the dog is great!

Really enjoyed the hostel, staff were friendly and helpful, felt homely cooking dinner in the lovely kitchen and chilling out in the comfy living room or roof terrace.

Geckos is a typical hostel, I've stayed in better BUT I've certainly stayed in a lot worse. It's clean, the staff is very helpful and friendly, probably some of the most helpful I've found in awhile. Breakfast is all you can eat and there's fruit, cereal, tea/coffee, bread, and ham and cheese. Far more options than most places give and again, all you can eat! The location is good for downtown and it's easy enough to hop the bus to the beaches. It's a very social hostel which is great and I've heard on the weekends it can get rowdy. Like most hostels the facilities could use some help/fixing, but overall it's great and I'd stay here again.

The hostel was located very close to the beach, but a little bit in not such a good street. The rooms with 9 beds were really small. Overall it was very clean and the atmosphere was very nice. They had a little terace to sit and a bar downstairs. The stuff was really nice and helpfull even though they didn't speak english that well. I would come back to this hostel!

I booked the 15 people dorm on Agoda.com when i saw it was going on a very good deal. I initially had expected it to be ok for the price that I was paying but it was a lot worse than I thought.I was allocated to the room in the basement. When I saw the room, there were rubbish and personal belonging strewn on over the floor. No housekeeping for a few days maybe. What irked me the most was that there wasn't any ventilation in the room at all. Sure, it was cold at night, but the windows were perpetually closed and the air conditioner wasn't working (I tried). So every night we just left the door to the room open (so much for security). Luckily the people in the dorm were mostly nice and friendly. One hung his wet clothings above me when he couldn't find a clothes rack. It was probably dripping all night. Maybe the hostel could invest in one clothes rack for a 15 people dorm? I liked the restroom which had 2 cubicles for showering and 2 toilets.They were cleaned almost everyday. For those carrying heavy luggage, it is not recommended because the route from the Paradiso Subway station is full of steps and hills. Despite it being a 10/15min walk, it could be torturous for those who are not travelling light.

Positives: the house itself is great and really good organiced. stuff is very helpful, especialy Michel, who helped us finding a hospital and many other things. sometimes they turned volume down if asked politely. nice patios, balconies, places to hang around and a pool inside. breakfast is good. kitchen is very good. two computers for free use. supermarket two blocks away. pizzeria too. caipirinhas are tasty. Negatives. If you are young, do not need lots of sleep and like loud music, happy hour and blinking lights, that is your place to go. There are speakers everywhere, so there is no chance to escape the bass. Walls are thin though. The guys there are young, so even at times when we were the only guests, the music played loud. So, no tv watching or book reading was possible and Internet worked only sometimes. we got stranded. At the time we stayed there, lots of loud maintenance was done. it is a 12min busdrive downtown or half hour walk. no busses from here to the falls.

The hotel is fine for an overnight stay. The rooms are small but bathrooms large and very clean.

Great for solo travellers meeting new people etc. Good breakfast, comfy / clean mattresses. Always stuff going on during the day and evening. Alex at reception is a great guy, really friendly and helpful.

It is your typical hostel. Clean and comfortable. Kitchen is sufficient. Location is good in terms of transportation as it is near Luz Metro(subway) and CPTM (train)station. I believe airport express bus is also nearby. The surroundings (not the hotel itself) are full of homeless people and you won't feel safe at night. Other than that it is recommended.

The hostel was not located in the historical center, but there is an easy way to go there by bus and the beaches are close by walking 30min. The hostel was absolutely clean, never saw such a clean hostel kitchen before. It ws very modern and decorated with little nice details. The stuff is helpfull, but you had to ask for it. The breakfeast was simple, but sufficient. Would defenitely come back to this hostel!

I stayed 2 nights at Maracuja and it was great! The staff is lovely, the hostel is clean and very well located : 5min from the historical center. The hostel has nice terrasse on the canal to chill and to have a nice caipirinha at sunset. I definitely recommend you to stay there!

Awful hostel. Terrible location, staff were disinterested and unhelpful, place was dirty especially the bathrooms, breakfast consisted of old bread covered with flies. Also the place was full of mosquitos which made it even more unpleasant. The worst hostel I have ever stayed in and I am well travelled.

We booked a double room with private bathroom, but we also got to enjoy the hostel atmoshphere wich was great. Jennifer was always happy to help with tips, advice, tour reservstions, you name it. She really made our stay really great and smooth. The room was basic but really clean! Although not on the main street, the hostel is 1 or 2 blocks away from the bus station, which in my opinion is better than the main street. Supermarket also close by. I totally recomend this hostel!

It’s a good hostel. Cheap, clean, and close to the falls and bird park (all within walking distance). Would recommend over any of the fancy hotels downtown.

Great little place to stay, right near the lagoon and town centre. Staff really helpful and advise you what to do etc. Kitchen small but manageable and breakfast was simple but nice to have. I’d say again.

The couple that owns the hostel is very sweet! They don't speak English but do you know a little Spanish you can communicate a bit. Breakfast is fruit, sandwiches, coffe, juice and yogurt. Everything is walking distance in Paraty but this hostel seems to be in the middle of it all. There weren't very many people at all when I stayed but if it was a busy season the rooms would've felt a lot more crowded. Nice place if you're staying for a night or 2!

I enjoyed my stay at the Cosmopolitan. For a budget hostel, it offered everything necessary as a base to visit Recife and Olinda. The staff was pleasant and helpful with maps and questions. The breakfast was a lovely spread with fresh squeezed tropical juices, homemade cakes,fruit, sandwiches and breads. The grounds are set in a small garden with pet rabbits, there is a central lounge with tv, the rooms have ac at night and the location is is very near the beautiful Boa Viagim beach. There was high speed internet, and tv in the lounge as well as a kitchen available to cook. My only complaint is that the lockers provided could be easily broken into with a screwdriver. Not that secure. All things considered, great value for the price.

There is laundry bussiness beneath the hotel and its make the walls viberate and the back side of the hotel is very nosy because of that. Except that the hotel is high quality and the staff bery nice peaple. If you get room in the front i belive there wouldnt be nose

Nice hostel with a friendly staff and great breakfast just a walking distance from Geriba beach. Some restaurants and small market very nearby. To be honest I was expecting little bit more based on the reviews. It'd be nice if there would be somekind of hangout area outside where you could mingle with other guests. Also more hammocks would be very nice, there was only one at the time of our stay. Drinking your own alcohol is prohibited but you can buy some from the hostel bar.

It is nice location near the beach(only 190m? metro station) and safety place. The staff are really nice and kind and we can drink beer or food in the bar in the hostel. I will recommend you to stay here if you look for the cheap budget place.
