Perfect location to start exploring Wakayama, Osaka and Nara prefectures. Definitely a contender for the first stop from Kansai Airport - clean, homely feel. Great service and exceptionally friendly staff. The room was simple and private enough for a dorm room, great facilities done in a minimal functional aesthetic. Takashi & Mari have so much knowledge to share and help you discover their home city and beyond! Oh and great morning coffee and biscotti downstairs too.
Nice and clean hostel”
The hostel is within walking distance of 15 mins to Wakayama Station. Nearby got an public Onsen that you can try by yourself. Staff is nice and helpful, and the hostel considered clean and tidy. No compromise.
Recommend hostel in Wakayama”
The location is quit far from train station (around walk 15 min). However, the owner is very friendly. She will actively recommend the interested place for travel and she is so polite and cute. If you meet her, plz tell her I miss you. lol Note : Don't forget to buy some food and drink before you back to hostel.
Design, Nature, New Restaurant”
This guest house has beautiful little touches of design in every corner. There are plants flourishing in the common spaces, a roof deck perfect for yoga or sunset watching, and a community style design that still allows you quiet alone time. Walk to the castle or ride a bicycle to the beach, passing waterways and flowers along the way. Their new restaurant has a menu to impress any city-goer that offers seasonal items only Japan can offer. My one week stay here wasn’t long enough! The employees welcomed me with a smile day and night and told me where to go, what to do, and how to get there. I told the manager I wanted to visit Nanchi Taisha. She pulled out a sheet with all the information, and twenty minutes later I was on the limited express. Another day she called a surf school and made the reservation for me. Thank you to the staff and the work that they do to make this give this small town the perfect vacation destination.
Sooooooo nice😭😭 really hope I could stay more days. ”
Everything was awesome! The price wasn’t that cheap for a guesthouse. Exactly it was my most expensive one in this kansai trip. But it totally worth it! The staffs were nothing but friendly and treated me as a friend😭😭😭
decent hostel but not a great location”
Nice, clean hostel but kind of located in the middle of nowhere somewhat in the hostess clubs part of town. Restaurants are sporadically found nearby. Around a 15 minute walk from Wakayama Station which is more central and has more easy food options. Staff were polite, helpful. Pretty dead in the off season. Overall, a good stay.
Feel Like Home”
There is nothing much to do in Wakayama town to be honest, unless you travel further out to see the beaches and Koya Mountain. However, staying in this guesthouse for 3 nights made my stay in Wakayama a relaxing one. It made me feel like home every morning when I wake up and evening when I return after a long day venturing out. The hosts are friendly and helpful, the room is functional and the lobby is cozy.
Great place in town”
Arriving Late in Wakayama, found the guesthouse with Google Map, about 15 minutes from JR station, need to walk across a park. I stay in a shared Japanese room, very happy to be here. Simple, modern, clean.
Love Guesthouse Rico!”
One of the best accommodation experiences in Japan. Everything thought out and a beautiful relaxed space and vibe. The staff are very helpful and so generous with their time. Thank you!
Hotel with very nice and friendly staff but unfortunately a bit unsafe”
1. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would score 10/10 for their nice service and that they are always be prepared to offer help 2. The hostel design is cute and instructions to use the equipment are wall paintings 3. i personally like the rooftop most. It has a great view at night. 4. The hostel is easy to find but a bit far from both wakayamashi stn and wakayama stn (ard 20 mins walking) and bus stops are not nearby so walking is the easiest way... 3. The hostel entrance is next to the reception place where the gate is not locked and everyone can enter the hostel 4. Intruders only encounter resistance when they get to room door, made by thin wood board and there is an obvious gap between the door and wall 5. Some rooms are with more rigid doors but still simple number lock is used 6. there is no locker/ safe box in the room anyway, if you just want a cheap room to stay and making good friends, it is a good choice.
It's just amazing.”
The house is remodeled from a old building, you can easily see how the old layers look like, it gives a strong retro vibe, which is so cozy. The reception is tiny but lovely, with few seats inside, you can have your meal or just sit there chill a bit. Me and my friend stayed in a twin room, the room is not too big but enough for you to open luggage fully. Restroom and shower room are both very clean and comfortable. It does have some cons here, the door of twin rooms are made by wood, so it's obviously not soundproof, and with the wind blowing, it was knocking the doorframe for the whole night, it was kinda annoying. And the toilets do not have washlet, which is kinda disappointing by the standard in Japan. Overall, it was a pleasure stay here, and the cons are fixable I think, will definitely recommend to others!
Really a budget place to stay when visiting Wakayama city. It's close to main sight-seeing places like Wakayama castle and quite reasonable distance to Wakayama Station. A good accommodation for the self-travelling.
industrial style hostel cool and cozy ”
industrial style hostel, so clean, cozy, the owner and staff are so nice and passion, fair price, toiletries(lavender) that smell so good.
Great place. Nice roof area, clean, quiet. Only suggestion would be to improve curtains as current ones don't do anything to block out light. Every morning at 5am the whole room would be lit up and hard to go back to sleep.
Friendly Host, Feel like Home”
This is a space where international travellers gather, hosted by a friendly couple who own and run the place. I feel very much at home during my stay, and I highly recommend to solo travellers like me to stay in Guesthouse Rico when they are in Wakayama.
Very nice staff, if you drive, the location is ok, but I think its a bit difficult for non Japanese to find it. The best thing is my room has a toilet and no need to share with others, however if there is a small fridge, then it will be perfect, recommended to families with bigger kids and driving, not by public transport.
Great room with affordable price”
It's a great place for self-driving travelers to stay. So many parking areas with affordable price around Rico. Our double room was big enough and everything in the room was great. The staffs were so friendly. Will stay again if we travel Wakayama in the future.
Stylish and Comfortable”
If you're staying in Wakayama, stay here. It is a hostel with dorm rooms, but it was immaculately clean, quiet and a great night's sleep. The hosts are gracious and more than willing to help in any way they can. The rough design of the hostel is intentional and the reception area is full of stylish curiosities. There are ambitious designs for shared workspace as well as a rooftop garden area. We were impressed not only with Rico, but also with the friendliness of the city and of course, the world-renown Chuka-soba (ramen). We made a point of returning here to stay one more night during our stay in Wakayama Prefecture after hiking the Kohechi section of the UNESCO designated Kumano Kodo trail.
Good time in rico House ”
I stayed in the common area the afternoon, they offer me some information to do some grocery. I cooked with the staff and we had a good time.
