Crete Island hotels & places to stay

Very relaxing stay especially after we obtained the mattress toppers from reception which made the very hard brds much more comfortable! There is not a lot to do in the area but a bus right outside the hotel takes you into Chania which is worth a visit.The food in the hotel was really good .

the area is not the best to look at especially on the back of the hotel there were abondon bulidings. Next to the hotel there was a house with a pit bull and it didn't stop barking day and night the rooms need a serious renovations especially the bathrooms, our the toilet sit was broken from old age,it was nothing like the photos from the website. The good things its clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. I dont suggest it for families with small children

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We stayed in the executive suites which are just to the side of the main hotel. The hotel itself is far enough away from the main town to be peaceful, but near enough to walk to (15mins) for evening meals and entertainment. Whether you want to buzz of new town or the ambience of old town the hotel sits between the two. The hotel itself is very pleasant and set in it's own grounds. It has large size swimming pool with loungers with a toddler pool which is covered and a Jacuzzi. The executive rooms are very large and have a oversize bed (med firm), dressing table, sofa, coffee table various draws and large wardrobe. The bathroom has large Jacuzzi bath, open rain shower, sink etc. The room we had was it the top and has 3 balconies. The largest one has 2 x loungers plus table chairs and sun shade. Great little hotel. Would recommend. Really friendly staff.

We spent a week at the Kydon and were wonderfully cared for. Their central location in Chania is a perfect location for visiting various sites and tours on Crete...and their buffet breakfasts are the best we encountered during our 4 weeks traveling in Greece! We can't say enough about the quality of the staff; their prompt and efficient responses to our emails, requests for tours, recommendations for shopping, taxis, etc. We stayed in 7 hotels in Greece and Kydon was our favorite. We highly recommend travelers looking for quality accommodations and a great traveling experience to consider the Kydon.

Service was subpar and often unhelpful with many extra fees. When I picked a beach resort for a part of our vacation, I thought this place would be a nice retreat at a moderate price given that it's suppose to be a "4 star resort" but we were really disappointed and will never return. So many extra fees --5 euros per day to use the empty lounge chairs across their private beach (now I know why the noisy pool was always filled with people despite the cars zooming by --not relaxing!) $10 per buffet meal if you don't do all-inclusive (we didn't) but it's actually 12 euros for the dinner on Thursday because there is a live band. Also, 10 euros deposit to use each beach towel, and if you lose your flimsy little receipt, too bad. Is it their plan to have people steal the towels so that anyone returning it won't get their money back? Isn't the lounge chair and live band a part of the resort thing? The guy who walked us to our room in silence seemed to wait for a tip but he didn't even offer to carry our bags. Maybe service was crap because we weren't all-inclusive since we just had the bed and breakfast plan only. At first, I asked if we could switch that meal for a lunch or dinner later because one day we went on an extra-fee excursion, but the front desk basically talked around it for 10 minutes, saying she needed to talk to her boss and it could be an extra charge. I asked for a follow up answer but I never heard from her again. Rude. We and other excursion goers were allowed a quick breakfast of yogurt and cold cuts (no cooked foods) early that day so when I asked for something similar on our departure day because of an early flight, they said yes but then didn't set it up (the overnight worker put out some yogurt after we asked). We asked about cabs to town (basic questions here!) and there was a new answer every day. This place is an OK place but there are cheaper options that don't claim to be a 4 star.

Hotel is located just 5 minutes (or less) walk away from Heraklion port and the main “market street”. Food options around the hotel are aplenty. Public buses (bus stop) is just a perpendicular corner from the hotel. My mom and I walked everywhere and it was fun. Staff was polite, helping us to brown bag our breakfast when we had to go out early to other parts of Crete. They’d also assist you to do tour bookings at reasonable prices. I had a fun time in Heraklion, Crete and this hotel (facilities and staffs) had a big part to play.

An unforgettable holiday! The room (master suite) very cosy, super-comfortable and spacious and a large terrace with a fantastic view. Quality toiletries, fast wifi, a Hifi and a TV sets guarantee entertainment in the room and are especially important in winter, as the resort is open 12 months a year. Breakfast is entirely home-made and all the fruit, vegetables and eggs are their own produce. The Venetian lake is full of Koi fish and there are ducks and snow geese as well. Our children enjoyed watching and feeding them, as well as learning a range of herbs around the lake which the owners of the resort painstakingly labelled for visitors in Greek, English and Latin.One can go for walks and short trips in the area.. What makes the whole difference, however, is the unique hospitality of every single staff member who made us feel part of the community throughout our stay and spoilt us with their hospitality.Finally, the spa with its range of excellent treatments is a must.A big THANKS!

Very good value with dinner and breakfast included. We never really do "all inclusive" or like to eat in the hotel, but we arrived at 8:45pm on a delayed ferry and were ushered downstairs to ensure we got to eat before dinner finished. Great service, walking distance to everything you need and they have a mini gym - enough for a creative workout!

The Ionia Suites should be proud of their whole staff team. They are all so friendly and helpful. The beds are comfy although the pillows could be just a bit better. The whole place is exceptionally clean - cleaned by yet more super friendly ladies. The breakfast is good although I would have liked more cooked and fruit options personally. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends. Good location half way between old town and the beach - both a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Eva in particular was amazing and helped plan my entire stay in Crete/Heraklion. The entire resort is clean and right off the beach. I loved staying here and would do it again!

We travelled through Crete and by far, Eli the receptionist was the best we've come by. She went ABOVE and beyond to make our stay special. Her knowledge of places to see and places to eat made our time in Crete perfect. Do not hesitate at all to visit Molos Bay and deal with Eli and if she's not there Despina is just as awesome. Both 5 star in the business!

We stayed in the ground floor room facing the beach. The room was a little small but in a fantastic location and very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again if visiting crete in the future

It is 3 star hotel in very good location, near sea and middle of City. Rooms are bit small for 2 person but cozy and clean. Caffe maker and fridge and big LSD TV in room. Wifi was not good in my room. Breakfast was nice, warm and cold fdishes and staff is friendly. I will give 3 star, not 4 star.

You'd find it hard to have a bad time on this beautiful island, but Creta Blue made our stay completely unforgettable. We woke each morning to a hearty breakfast of breads, meats, cheese, and eggs; followed by an indulgent serving of fruit, Greek yogurt and honey. The rest of the day was spent pool-side, admiring the lush gardens and ocean view. Invigorated after a good sun and swim we sampled the refreshing cocktails until it was time for more of Eleni's home-cooked Cretan cuisine. With each new day came a new "special dish" that was so mouth watering we shamelessly pried for the family recipe. The Roussakis family and their team were always around to join in the chat and offer tips. They have a created a very welcoming, relaxed atmosphere - Dim lights, nice music and immaculate surroundings. Our room was cool, well equipped and cleaned every day. The hotel is close enough to sample the nightlife, and remote enough to escape it. Perfect! Dan

It took me a while to be able to find this hotel from the bus station, it's a ctually a 10-15 min walk in a straight line, opposite the town center. It's horribly situated, nearly out of town and most people I asked had never heard of it apparently. I found the staff to be unhelpful, polite but not really caring or willing to assist more than the bare minimum. 3 euros for a 24-hour wifi pass is also NOT a good idea. Overall a very dull hotel, like many in Crete I'm afraid, the kind of which offers a swimming pool 20m away from the beach and caters to people (50 year-old + brits on average) who actually prefer swimming in pools rather than in the sea. Bland and boring. AVOID.

Nestled down a quiet side street right next to the port is this little gem of a hotel. We were looked after with real care and attention by the staff and our room was fantastic, really quiet with all mod cons and a huge comfortable bed. Dinner was delicious - we decided to eat in as it was easy to sit outside in the little piazza. Breakfast the next morning was great too - only thing that could have worked better was the wifi - there were quite a few of us trying to log in and it was a bit temperamental.

Really enjoyed our stay from the moment we arrived. We had a bit of trouble finding a way to,the hotel but once there it was fine. The hotel has its own parking which is a real bonus in the town.The staff were brillant, very helpful in her suggestions of where to eat, what to see lovely beaches, villages to visit and interesting trips out. The manager too was very helpful, great costomer service throughout our stay.The mini suit we stayed in was clean , comfortable and next to one of the sun terraces which was very handy with new sunbeds and sun umberelas. The bed was comfortable with coco-mat mattresses. The only thing I would mention was the shower it's needs re positioning or a nes one as it was difficult to use and not wet the floor through but overall a very pleasant and enjoyable 11 night stay. We would have no reservations about retuning to this hotel in the future

Everything was very good about the hotel. It is located a short walk from the old town. It is in a busy city, so a bit noisey, with a produce market setting up at 5:30 each morning. The huge downside is parking. It was listed as having adequate parking. That meant that the public parking lot was a block away with a fee, hourly, or 24 hours. On Wednesday, they have the public market there, and you have to vacate by 10PM the previous evening, and most of the next day.. Parking was very crowded on the street, and parking was prohibited on one side of the street in front of the hotel.

We spent 2 nights at Blue Beach in October 2012. It was beautiful weather, and the place was delightfully quiet. The staff and owner were friendly and helpful at all times, which contributed to the relaxed atmosphere. The room was more than adequate: clean, comfortable and quite well equipped. The tiny shower was the only drawback (although it is typical for smaller Greek hotels and villas). The view over the coast and mountains was superb. The breakfast buffet was fine, but we did not try the food in the restaurant. (The taverna next door had more choices and was excellent.) The adjacent beach is small but perfect for swimming - calm and protected. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again. Highly recommended and excellent value.

It is a good place to relax, with really good dishes, and it is close to 2 beaches (3 min walk). Be prepared for no wifi in the rooms, only in public areas. Programs in the evening are good and quite loud.. :) overall it is a beautiful place to stay in Crete.

The staff particularly the restaurant staff made the stay very pleasant. The food is very geared towards the germans which we as australians found a bit bland which did not perturb us too much as we ate out a lot at local restaurants. The hotel was very centrally located and convenient to go anywhere on the island. All in all a great experience for a couple of australians.

They helped me book my ferry the next day the room was beautiful. The hotel was quiet. I can't say enough good about these guys.

Nice sea view and spacious room but the bathroom is old. Gym equipments are really old. We could access the sauna only for 30 minutes before the treatment. No welcome drink for this price.

I wish we could have stayed here for a week or more. We enjoyed every minute in and around the resort. Staff were friendly and more than helpful. Both pools were great and the location was just perfect. Close to the beach and many restaurants to have something to eat.

we are satisfied with our stay. Just make sure to use the metro or taxis. Do not walk around at night.

I personally thought Stalida was a dreadful place geared only towards tourism. Unfortunately I mustn't have done my research very well and we ended up there. The deluxe rooms were spacious and quiet even though the hotel itself was close to the main tourist road. The cost of the room was worth it for the space and facilities although I would have expected warmer shower water and more frequent linen and towel changes. I also was surprised that sun lounges were not included in the price and were charged extra per day. We personally found that the manager (Peter) to be very intense and often abrupt with ourselves and with others. He was very unhelpful and unapologetic when he was unable to provide shower and changing facilities after check out (we offered to pay but the hotel was apparently full and no facilities could be provided elsewhere). I found this particularly unforgiving as I was travelling with my elderly mother. On one occasion he also called our room to reprimand my mother for leaving the balcony light on. Again I felt that this should have been handled in a more diplomatic way. I must commend both younger Peter who helps serve breakfast and the beach and the cleaning lady - Vera as I think that they do a remarkable job given their working environment. Also, Peters wife did seem very nice but didn't see a lot of her.

We liked this hotel it has nice rooms and a big balkony. The owner is very nice and helps where he can.

At the top roof restaurant we waited 30 mins before someone came to us, but the food was good

The Rimondi is an absolutely fantastic hotel! It is in a renovated authentic building in the old venetian part of the city, yet the rooms are clean and light with all modern amenities. From the moment we arrived the staff (especially Helen) made us feel like we were staying with close friends, they were absolutely the best of anywhere we've stayed and if we're ever back in crete we'll stay here again without question. Despite only being there 1 night we all shared a big hug and kiss when it was time for us to leave. Being in the old part of the town the hotel was a bit hard to get to by car, but it was worth it when you get there. Right in the heart of the old venetian laneways filled with boutique shops, cafe's and tavernas, yet the hotel feels like a peaceful oasis with a fantastic setting around the courtyard pool. You can walk anywhere worth seeing in Rethymno in under 10 mins. We were upgraded to a spa suite which was in a fantastic stone vault with our own private outdoor spa. Character and experience of this hotel cant be beaten.
