Yaoji Hakata Hotel

"Close to the station, free hot spring/spa access for guests, and a nice room - not sure what else I could possibly ask for. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was good, and I had a great time in Fukuoka - will definitely be back."

THE LIVELY FUKUOKA HAKATA

"The unusual hotel concept, but it creates a friendly atmosphere. Staff was helpful at all times, speaking English as well pretty good. The best part was breakfast, I really enjoyed it. Also liked billiard in the second floor. Overall, worthy, of ever coming back to Fukuoka, definitely staying here. "

Plaza Hotel Tenjin

"I stayed here for a few days while visiting Fukuoka. The rooms are basic but you hlget what you pay for. The lobby makes it feel more expensive than it really is. Felt they could have labeled the location a bit better. The sign was hard to see unless you walk right past it and turn your head. Friendly staff and close to some shopping centers."

Fukuoka Toei Hotel
Tenjin,Fukuoka - View on map
"The closest train station was watanabe-dori. Exit 1 and then left and walk straight to cross over to the zebra line, then turn left and walk pass family mart and hotel toei fukuoka is just on your left. Next to this hotel has a very nice restaurant that open till late night. It is a must to try their delicious meal. The hotel can also accessible to yakuin subway and nishitetsu-yakuin train station to dazaifu and yanagawa. Only about 6mins walk. You can buy the value package to both dazaifu and yanagawa ticket at nishitetsu-yakuin train station. This is also the faster way to go to Tenjin from this hotel and with cheaper rate 160yen compared to 210yen by watanabe-dori subway. The hotel breakfast was good. Hotel room was relatively small but ok for Asian fun size. Air purified was given in the room"

Plaza Hotel Premier
Tenjin,Fukuoka - View on map
"If you are visiting Fukuoka for the first time, this location is arguably the best place to be. The area is very cosy surrounded by cafés and bars, and it is very close to the train station. It has similar vibe as to Tokyo's Omotesando area which is very nice. Though it is surrounded by bars, the area is not noisy. The only downfall with this hotel is that it is smaller than the average Japanese business hotels. Overall a very good location and I would stay here again. The staff were very friendly too which is always a pluss. "

ORIENTAL HOTEL FUKUOKA HAKATA STATION
Hakata,Fukuoka - View on map
"This hotel apparently recently re-opened after refurbishment (April 2019), so interior and furnishings are nice and new. It's location is really very convenient - a stone's throw away from Hakata train station, which is a main transit hub for other places in Fukuoka, so has plenty of places to eat, shop, etc. whether you are staying or en route elsewhere. We enjoyed the very easy access to the station malls and restaurants, major tourist attractions in the city, as well as the airport (bus stop nearby and train, accessible from the hotel basement entrance). Staff were extremely courteous and friendly, and offered thoughtful touches at the hotel, such as personalised mini-guides to the best ramen in town, as well as a matcha tea ceremony (free for guests on selected days of the week). We enjoyed our stay there. Thank you, Oriental Hakata Hotel Fukuoka Station team! "

Hotel Monterey La Soeur Fukuoka
Tenjin,Fukuoka - View on map
"Very friendly, English-speaking staff let us leave our baggage until check-in time (we were changing from another hotel) so we could go shopping. When we came back at 15:00 our bags were in our room waiting. The room was small (normal for Japan), but very comfortable. The bed was just right - could have done with more pillows, but I never requested any so I don't know if they are available. The bathroom was excellent, decor and comfort. It was very secure, access to the floors was only by elevator with your room card, and it automatically took you to the correct floor - no option to choose a different floor. I can only see this being a problem if you visit with friends and get rooms on different floors. The best point was location, right next to Tenjin and Daimyo, the best places in Fukuoka for shopping, eating and nightlife. I will definitely go back to this hotel."

Nest Hotel Hakata Station
Hakata,Fukuoka - View on map
"It is a new building and great location, the room is a standard size same as another hotel in Japan. The staff on day shift don't have much smiling, but it is still ok. We can't park our bike in front of the hotel, that makes our trip very inconvenienced. Riding bike is very common in Fukuoka, they should have a place for parking. Nearly the hotel, has many good places to eat."

Hakata Excel Hotel Tokyu
Hakata,Fukuoka - View on map
"Apart from a little difficulty with understanding English v. well the staff at reception were helpful and friendly. The small double we had booked was the best sized room we have had at any other hotel in Fukuoka and v,clean. The room had tea/coffee making facilities and computer for our use. It is 4 stops on the Kuko line from the airport and is just around the corner from the nearest subway station. It is located close to Tenjin park on the edge of Hakata and a 10 min. walk from canal city and the Nishitetsu line in Tenjin which we needed to use regularly. ~We did not use the meal facilities. The location by the river is pleasant and the lobby, corridors, rooms and public areas are smart, clean and impressive the money we paid."

More about Fukuoka

The modern and exciting city of Fukuoka is located on the island of Kyushu and is divided in two by the Hakata River, an area where many of the city’s hotels can be found. Fukuoka is considered an excellent introduction to Japan for first-time visitors thanks to its modest size and comprehensive rail network. Many visitors arrive via the bullet train, but Fukuoka Airport is still a popular gateway and is only two train stops from the city center.

The city’s culture can be visited with a trip to such sites as Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine and Shofukuji Temple. The island of Nokonoshima is set in the middle of Hakata Bay and is excellent for hiking, swimming, and camping. Tenjin is the largest shopping district in the city, and visitors can find towering retail blocks, large department stores, and boutique areas such as Tenjin Core. Dining opportunities are abundant, and ramen is certainly one of the most popular dishes, especially from the mobile food stalls.

Fukuoka is host to two major festivals each year – Hakata Gion Yamakasa and Hakata Dontaku. The festival of Yamakasa held in June and is defined by teams of men hoisting floats through set courses while wearing traditional loincloths. Dontaku, celebrated in May, sees stages erected for traditional performances and parades. Both these annual holidays have been celebrated for centuries and are an excellent peek into the local culture.
