I have traveled throughout the island over the years,.. Many special places to see and visit. Great opportunity to learn about the Hawaiian culture through activities, and site visits.
Most rely on a tour book the first trip so you can see all the wonders. special beaches that are hidden, beaches belonging to upscale hotels which give access (thank you!). Always find the farmer's markets for great prices on Veggies an Fruit. Eat lots of Papaya! Don't just stay and sun bath,...visit and explore! Always take a trip around the Island,..and stay in Hilo! Visit the Volcano National Park..hopefully, there will be a public laval flow within the park. If not, find a location available. "Aloha"
Hawaii is the biggest of the Hawaiian islands and has the most to offer accordingly. The western side of the island is sunny with some nice beaches and places to visit.
The eastern is the rainy side and is a lot more colourful with forests, beautiful beaches and waterfalls. You can see the active volcano in the national park, go diving, hiking, etc. We were only there for 4 days but could have stayed a lot longer.
If you want a more adventurous, laid back Hawaii then Big Island is the place to go. There is plenty of outdoor activities to do and breath taking sights to see.
Absolutely recommend Big Island to everyone.
The main reason to go to Hawaii (Big Island) is to see the volcanoes and lava fields (unless you like golf - there are lots of golf courses).
The east coast scenery is breath-taking too but best appreciated from the air. (If you want beaches go to Oahu or Maui.)
The star seeing is cool. The volcano is impressive, you can vitness how new land is formed here. I like the quiet and original life here.
