“This is a good Hobart hotel. It's well located with easy access to all the local sights, restaurants, waterside activities. Hotel staff are professional if somewhat impersonal, and very efficient. The rooms are of a good standard and all the expected amenities are available. Although situated in the middle of things, our room was quiet. This hotel has a good reputation and we were not disappointed.”

“After reading many negative reviews I decided to try it nevertheless because of the casino at the base. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of service beautiful peaceful surroundings good choice of restaurants and activities available. The birdcage had live music every night. They have expanded their casino although small it is adequate. Our room was an executive which had been refurbished and directly overlooked the water. It was 5 star. My only compliant is that although I arrived at 2pm I was unable to check in because the room wasn't ready until 1430 and I had asked for elevation and received 5th floor from a choice of 16. That simply isnt good enough however I was given complimentary drink each while we waited. In my opinion its the best place to stay in hobart.”

“We snuck away for a late planned 3 day weekend and were fortunate the hotel had capacity for us (there were several conferences on). We stayed in a Superior Harbour View room the first night and a Superior Mountain View room the second night. Both were very spacious and comfortable with great views and good wifi (if your budget allows go for the Superior Harbour). It's not the trendiest hotel in Hobart, but we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the indoor pool and gymnasium were and the buffet breakfast was great. To cap this off the staff were extremely friendly and very accommodating. We would have enjoyed our long weekend in Hobart regardless, but the quality of the service and facilities on offer at the Grand Chancellor made this a really memorable visit.”

“We recently stayed at Sullivan Cove Apartments in the IXL complex in Hobart in a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment was very spacious and the staff were very helpful. The design of the ensuite bathroom for the main bedroom was a little ill-thought out: a double open shower in a small space meant the rest of the bathroom (toilet, floor, sink area) got drenched if anyone had a shower due to the lack of screen. The ventilation in this bathroom was also lacking which meant it was a little musty in smell. However, there was a second bathroom which was better ventilated and had a shower/bath set-up, which was more than ample. The wifi signal was not particularly reliable, but otherwise all the mod cons of the room were more than sufficient. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, easy check-in and check-out process, and all within great proximity to popular restaurants, bars, and harbour sites. I'd certainly stay with Sullivan Cove Apartments again if I were to ever revisit Hobart.”

“Great old hotel that has traded as a hotel longer than any other hotel in Hobart. Checking in was quick and efficient and we were directed to your room. Climbing historic staircases and looking down a long hallway that has dropped a little overtime we entered our room which was enormous. So large that the TV was about 7 metres from the bed end. Bathroom was fine and towels were very generous and soft. The room was very quiet and the curtains turned day into night and made it easy to sleep in. Breakfast was a choice from buffet to set menu and was very nice and arrived quickly and hot. The only problem we had was with our credit card type door key which failed us about 6 times, something that needs updating and the staff were sorry and embarrassed by this issue. Checking out was also quick and efficient and we could leave our bags whilst awaiting airport transfers. Enjoyed my stay and a drink at the old bar with great old history is memorable.”

“We have stayed at Woolmers twice before. It is reasonably cheap for accommodation in Hobart. The rooms are definitly a bit dated and could do with some work. We stayed in winter and our heater kept on shorting out the circuits in the room. The fan in the bathroom also did not work. The best thing about Woolmers is the location. We booked the Winter Special, includes complimentary breakfast. Arrived at the breakfast room at 9.15. Buffet breakfast was set out but almost empty. 30 + patrons awaited service by one front of house for hot breakfast orders. We learnt only one cook was rostered on !! We asked politely for service to the overworked floor staff to be told there was an hours wait for hot breakfast !!! Check out is in 45 minutes . The waiter said there were external bookings for Mothers Days and he did not know why there were no staff allocated. Other hotel guests were seen leaving without any service or breakfast. We sought redress at reception to be told it is Sunday and staff are not rostered on !!! This is an objective review and we find it hard to believe standards could slip so far. Please review your human resources and return to higher standards. AND why offer services that cannot be provided. We where inHobart for a funeral and had time commitments. We were very disappointed that our expectations were not met. Reception, front of house server and chef did not handle well the questions we asked regarding the way the breakfast worked. So disappointing.”

“We went for 16 days in Aussie, and our first destination was Hobart. We were greeted warmly on arrival. The staff was very friendly. He helped us in everywhere he can, such as lending us adaptor and guide us how to set the GPS on our car. Upon entering the room, we were surprise to see a bottle of red wine, a token from the hotel for our honeymoon celebration. The room is spacious and clean, it looked just like newly renovated. We have a wonderful stay there for 4D3N. Best hotel to choose when u go to Hobart. Near to Salamacca (3-5 mins walk) and many pubs/cafes nearby. Highly recommended. Thank you Lenna of Hobart Hotel.”

“Great little backpackers, just outside Hobarts CBD. I really enjoyed staying here. The staff were friendly, helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was included in the price and was very decent. Toast, cereal, tea, coffee, orange juice etc... They even supplied morning papers to read over breakfast. I was attending a course in town for the week so not the usual backpacker. I would suggest bringing some earplugs though as I had some of the worst snorers ever in my dorm, but once I worked this out I slept very well. The mattresses are thin foam ones but good enough to sleep on. The hotel looks to employ other backpacker from around the globe to do the cleaning etc... which makes perfect sense due to their multi lingual capacity. Their is also a small kitchette avalable for lunch and dinner preparation and a fridge which was very handy. All in all a very positive experience, one I would definitely recommend to others. I for one will be returning if I'm down that way again. 🙂”

“If you’re looking for a charming, fun hostel to meet people to travel around Tassie, look no further. They have free shuttle buses to take you to see the MONA and Mt Wellington every week. They also have a pool table, Netflix, Foosball table, guitars in case you want to stay in. The staff are the absolute best! Dean, Emily or John can tell you about the events going on around the city and point you in the best direction if you can’t decide what to do with your day. Matt the Night Manager keeps the place quiet after 11 pm so that the other guests can get a good nights sleep. They have a couple of old school fireplaces in the common areas to keep you warm. The only con was the room I stayed in was a bit cold but that could just have been my room. I didn’t mind because the bedding was warm enough. I Booked for 3 days but ended up extending For another 8 days.”

“Hostel is located right in the heart of the CBD, so a very central location. Staff are really lovely and accommodating, even was lucky enough to be upgraded to a 2 bed dorm for 3 out of the 4 nights I stayed. Hostel is clean and cheerful, and beds are very comfortable. Only negatives I would say is that the central location does make it extremely noisy, I am a heavy sleeper but was constantly woken by the church bells ringing nearby. Also the swipe cards are extremely sensitive, I was locked out twice and another guest staying had to get her card reactivated 5 times!Given that the hostel is only open 8am - 10pm you are screwed if this happens out of hours. Overall a good hostel in Hobart.”

Also free minibar, free dvd and games, free muffins and biscuits, and free coffee (real coffee) that you can have made for you anytime. “Excellent location for visiting Salamanca Market (opens Saturdays only), and the waterfront where there are lots of restaurants. Hobart CBD isn't very large, so Elizabeth Street Mall is just 10 minutes walk away. There is also a "Farmgate" market on Sunday, but Salamanca was enough for us. Room was spacious. Kitchen was well equipped. Wish I had more opportunity to use the kitchen. room rate was a little pricey, but still pretty good value for the location. The other *possible* issue was the late night party noise coming from a neighbouring block. This is not within the control of the Hotel, but rather is a zoning issue. Why the authorities allow such noisy activities until after 3 am is beyond me. But we are not light sleepers, so while the noise was audible, it was not intrusive for the 4th foor where we were. I cannot say if it was more intrusive for other rooms. Wifi was spotty, but if you really need the internet, get a data plan. Free wifi is for unimportant things.”

“accommodation in hobart can be difficult to book at times. brighton is a small town outside hobart (25 klm)on the midlands highway. we stayed two nights and were able to see most cbd and suburban attractions including mt wellington. the hotel/ motel is very new and is of an excellent design. rooms catered for all needs and were warm and spacious yet extremely quiet. the location gave us ease of entry to hobart and surrounds which suited our travel plans.”

“We loved the location; being on a farm and encouraged to explore and enjoy the animals was wonderful. Our hosts were exceptionally courteous and hospitable; supplying fresh eggs etc., for our breakfast; and extended themselves in telling us some history about the property and how they run the farm. A bonus! Overall, having stayed in two other properties, one in the north and in Hobart, we enjoyed Daisy Cottage the most; only sorry we didn't have more time there. We would highly recommend the whole experience. Thanks so much to our hosts!!”

“One thing that stood out was the fact that Jason (the host) had an immediate response to all my questions. He also helped to extend extra night immediately after knowing that i booked a night short for my group. Also, we found he had prepared bread, milk and coffee capsules for us when we checked in (sweet little touches). We went into Hobart with minimal planning, but Jason's accomodation had brochures of many attraction sites and tours; hence, no worries on the lack of ideas on how to roam Hobart.”

“We had a great time at the zero Davey hotel. We booked a luxury studio room with a lovely view over the harbour. The room was spacious, very well equipped and had a large comfortable bed, great bedding and a large bathroom with a great shower. The hotel gave you all the extra little touches. A good choice of teas, some washing powder sachets to do so e washing in the washing machine in the bathroom and salt and pepper etc. All those things that you need but you don't want to buy a lot of at the supermarket. All the staff were attentive and helpful. If I go back to Hobart I will definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone going to Hobart.”

The old buildings really make this city, with a sensible mix of modern. Unique little shopping areas like 'the cat and fiddle' arcade make it special. Friendly people are thrown in at no extra cost too. A trip up the mountain is worthwhile too. Hobart is a launching pad for many destinations from the great Lakes to the east coast and down south to port Arthur and beyond. Many boat trips are also possible from Hobart, and we'll worth the effort.

We were looking for the bus stop to take a shuttle bus to Salamanca market and were a little lost. We asked a lady on the street, I supposed she was from Hobart, and she could just sort of point us in one direction and left in the other direction. We stood at a bus stop hoping for the best and guess what, the same lady walked back to us just to confirm that we were at the right bus stop. We experienced this helpfulness and friendliness as we drove around Tasmania. This really made my holiday all the more enjoyable.
