Small island you can travel around in one day on motorbike. But with very different beaches, some really very quiet and beautiful, some very busy full of party people.
Friendly people, especially in small resorts.
We went to Phangan on a day trip. I would not recommend it. You have to hire a boat taxi to get out there and once there you are stuck.
Full of snorkelers looking at rocks in the ocean and who over ran the place. Beer was twice as much as on the main island. Even to sit in a chair on the beach you had to pay for it. Locals were not too friendly. A waste of a day in my opinion...unless you like looking at rocks under water.
5 nights is enough time. U can see the island in 1 day shopping is very basic. It is a very quite island and very relaxing and slow.
A great place to unwind. Eating local is wonderful. A few temples etc to visit which can all be done in a day trip around the island.
It is most famous for its Full Moon party, which sees the area swell with young tourists. Afterwards, the numbers of tourists drops as there is more to do on the other islands which make up the Samuis.
I really enjoyed Koh Phangnan. I found it much more relaxed than Koh Samui, the beaches are nicer and it isn't ruined by mass tourism (yet)
dunno why so many people go there - no good sea and beaches, locals (вurmese) are very unfriedly. i recommend attend only full moon party, that's all.
..
Its a Beautiful Island with full of Green & beaches,Good for Couples & for the Party only the moon Parties are suggested, the Clubs are & nightlife is not that great nor the activities.
If want to stay calm area, thong sala is the choice, but the beach is not friendly to swim. Have to go to other beach, Haad Rin, Haad Yao, Koh Ma.
Koh Phangan is very big island about 30 minutes far from Koh Samui by high speed catamaran, there are many waterfalls in the national park , many nice beaches ,lots of good restaurants and hotels and lots of parties in this island.
Based on what the locals say, this island receives about 5 - 6 times the no. of tourists during full moon party dates and super peak blocks compared to the rest of peak season.
That should give you an idea on how party centric the island is. There's not much to see/do otherwise. There's always a party going on somewhere every night. It honestly felt like walking into a secluded beach at Had Rin 2 days after the full moon party. If you're a thrill seeker, check out the Slip n Fly. It's just about the only fun to be had during the day.
Great place We intended to do all the islands but came here and made it our base and just visited the others.
Much cheaper than the other islands, so you can budget better for your travels.
Southern Part is Haar Rin Beach full of parties with nice beach but with very craggier road ahead to.
Middle part is Tongsala, the only one Pier in Koh Phangan also location for food market & weekend market.Northern part is Mae Haar Beach suitable for people looking for peaceful, also connect Koh Ma by sand which similar like Koh NanYuan can walk across through. The western part of Koh Phangan can drive by land route but eastern part only can visit by boats.CAUTION:Terrain of Koh Phangan is quite difficult for motobike specially aheading to southern part, highly deprecated riding motobike by none experience rider!Three traffic accidents per day in Koh Phangan!
I loved the island of Koh Phangan. Very beautiful beaches, water and warm people. The full moon parties held here are famous, lots of fun! Great place to snorkel, lie in the sun and do nothing.
I loved Koh Phangan. I've been going to Thailand for 15 years and had always steered clear of it because of the reputation of the full moon parties (avoid August apparently).
How wrong I was. Great beaches lovely atmosphere and great places to eat. I will be going again.
Beautiful beaches and fun place to party with other tourists, but if you're looking for a Thai culture experience, this is NOT the place to go.
This island probably operates off of tourism for 90% of its revenue. It's a lot of westerners traveling to party and trash the island, all to be cleaned up by thai youth and poor families. Pretty disheartening to see, but at the same time, that's their livelihood I suppose. It was tough to witness, but overall I still was able to enjoy my time on the island. I just don't think I'll be returning to support the culture of herding tourists within the industry that further marginalizes the native people.
Just visited for my second time and I can say the island is the fasted devolping tourist spot I've ever been to, within 18 months time i feel like it's gone from a chill somewhat foreign feeling island to going and visiting a china town in the U.
S, if your looking for an exotic location here is not the spot, it's just about raging your face off here even if your going for yoga or mediation or sightseeing it's infused into the party scene, I won't be going back but to each there own.
Nice Island, not much to do actually besides some highlights, during the full moon parties it's crowded.
Wat Pho (natural sauna), home made ice cream, waterfalls are definitely worth visiting while your stay over here.
Koh Phangan is an Island of Suratthani similar size as Koh Samui but still more natural than Koh Samui People also friendly as a tourist place Beautiful beached especially Thong Nai Pan Beach Manything to explore in Koh Pha Ngan
Koh Phangan has changed a lot over the years, it use to be a place where one could go and relax, take some tail boats around the islands.
But now its become quite a comercial place. If you are looking to party days in a row. Its a great place to go. If you are looking to relax I would consider the less develop islands like 'Koh Lipe'
Koh Phangan is a nice island in the Gulf of Thailand offering activities for nearly any interest group, dining, sports, nightlife, beaches etc.
Don't hire a bike unless you really have hadalot of experience, the bikes for hire usually have no tread on tyres and there is a lot of sand and gravel on the roads, get songtheaw taxis, they're cheap enough or use a water taxi to get to other beaches
We went for the exciting full moon party at haad Rin and stayed for a couple of more days to watch Koh Phangan.
it is a very beautiful island.
there are many different parties on the island. jungle party, half-moon party, full-moon party, etc.
One of my favorite places in the world. Whether you want to party hard at the full-moon party or relax at a secluded resort Koh Phangan can offer whatever you want.
Rent a motor bike and explore the island. You can access anywhere on the island by bike and it's well worth it.
It is a little bit expensive for the flight ticket to Koh samui when compared to the other parts of Thailand but it is certainly worth it!
very beautiful Island , if you go to Haad rin and you want a remote beach go to the coco hut beach- beautiful and quiet very close and almost not known to anyone take a trip to Haad sadet waterfalls there are many nice tours sold on every tourist booking shop make sure you take one and go with good camera - if you can , take a waterproof camera and a waterproof bag the boats dont have pier and you need to swim to the boat make sure your stay is either on "halfmoon party or full moon party try to stick to one resturant which doesnt make you sick.
.. we ate at "Mama schitzel"
A nice place to visit for the beautiful sandy beaches and great nightlife. would recommend travelling in a group for max.
fun
Good for anybody that looking for quite and some fun when they have an activities i.e. Full moon party, Half moon party, Shiva moon party, Dark moon party or pool party etc.
Its the Ibiza of Thailand, so if you are a family or not interested in all night parties, or being kept awake by them, chose your location well.
Its a great island, take care if hiring motorbikes, especially the hills into Haad Rin, not safe for 1st time driving
Koh Phangan is a great beach in Thailand If you want go to the party that who drink a lot you can go in here.
FullMoon , Half Moon or Dark Moon Party.
