Kolkata is a city worth exploring. It is safe from my point of view. Taxi is cheap. City is packed and always busy.
The best part of Kolkata is the food! all of the restaurants, even the street food - nothing is bad! Take the metro to get around, it the the fasts and most reliable way to travel through the city
take a ferry one way and cross the bridge the other. and look no further then calcutta walks dot com.
Lovely for people who have interest in Bengal and its culture and heritage and the remains of the British Raj.
There are plenty of religious places of worship, eco parks, zoo and other entertainment for families.
Very good for shopping, recommend to visit Mother Teresa's centres in Kolkata, and they have quite a good museum near the New market area.
Kolkatta is a good place, but requires lot of efforts to improve the basic infrastructure. Traffic is very bad over here.
I love coming back to India, as this is where I was born and I could never get sick og seeing everything as there is just too much to do over here, especially the food and all the now up market restaurants, but you still can't go past eating the local food, doing shopping at New Market and visiting Victoria Memorial and going for a horse/cart ride around the outskirts of it.
Its shopping heaven for those who love to shop till they drop. Awesome food offerings too for food lovers out there :-)

Calcutta is a huge city and as such deals with traffic congestion, noise, pollution, etc. Apart form the standard tourist sites that everyone is expected to see, The BEST way to get a feel for the city is to take one of the fantastic walking tours of Old Calcutta led by the people at Calcutta Walks (Calcuttawalks.
The City of Joy on the banks of the Hooghli River is very well laid out unlike other cities in India.
Excellent place, people have great respect for law, traffic rules and proud of their culture and traditions.
Its a city which seems like its frozen in time , since everything is more than 100 years old. Building falling apart, infrastructure in a mess, the whole city is a URINAL ( in reality) - i saw people urinating in almost every street .
There are couple of historic and other places to visit. Victoria Memorial, Fort William, Diamond Harbor, Science City, Eden Gardens Sports Stadium, Planetorium, Raj Bhawan, Writers Building and some other old places to visit.
So much to see and learn if you want to visit to all those homes of famous people in every field, Mother Teresa,Netaji, Rabindranath Tagore and many more.
Ganga sagar is also a good place for holy people. Kolkatta is a good destination for shopping, and enjoyment.
Old city with a mixture of modern elements. Rich in culture. Lacks the stature of cities like Mumbai in terms of Nightlife and entertainment but realaxing
Kolkata is a histological city of India. Travel lairs can visit so many places like hawra bridge, planetarium, Victoria memorial hall, Eden garden, Indian museum etc.
The whole city is messy, dirty, polluted, and not fit for tourists...I only stayed there becos of work.
Have not had the opportunity to explore the city very much. However did do some exploring down town. Saw the burial place of Mother Teresa and other sites in the area.
Kolkata is bigg city for bussiness tourism , for couples as well for food lovers it's nice place to have very delicious food in economic price
Always buy prepay taxi from airport counter, beware of professional touts that will blatantly lie in your face! They are open 24hrs.
a great historical city. a city with a human face and warmth. a hospitable and city throbbing with life
Its a traditional Indian city with lots of activities. Most of the roads are wide, a lot of shopping mall, restaurants and there few historical places to see.
Kolkata used to be the pride of the British Empire. Driving or walking thru this now quite run down city, you still get a glimpse of what it was like in those days during the British Rule.
Brings lots of antibacterial gel and facemasks. After a couple hours out in town, you're covered with black soot and you'll sneeze out black particles.
Kolkata is an old city, and has lots of historical value. The strong Bengali culture remain intact over the years, and that is the inner strength of the city.
Not a good place to be with family except for it's rich historical backgrounds, there's lots of dust in the air and the city is very very outdated.
Kolkata is a chaotic city where there are no traffic rules, a dirty city (garbage and open sewers), I strongly recommend not to visit temples (esp in the city); we had a pretty bad experience and hassled by touts and pundits posing as official middlemen leaving a sour experience.
