"Great location & very close to the supermarket & shopping & metro. Hotel breakfast was good & worth the extra money paid for it. But the hotel did Lower the standards of the rooms since the courtyard Marriot took over the hotel. Sink & shower water was very yellow & muddy brown. Also bring some extra toiletries with you since the shower shampoos & soap are so small. Electric wall plugs Broken. Limited number of pillows. It is looking more like a motel than a hotel. I stayed there many times over the years and did see the deterioration in hotel facilities. "

"The room is very basic, but generally clean (there were a few dark spots in the bathroom.grout at the floorthat is probably the beginning of mold). There is a notice on the wall asking that guests not place suitcases on the built in desk shelf which seems reasonable. But, it would be great if the hotel then provided a luggage rack. I had only an overnight bag so set it on the mini-bar refrigerator. The air onditionong worked well and the room was really quiet when the window was closed. That was really good for Grand Via. The elevator was really weird and I was never sure when it would work. I tended to just use the stairs. Generally a basic room in the center of the tourist area of Madrid that is clean and quiet at a reasonable price. "

"From my arrival, which happened to be opening day for The Hat, Madrid, through the entire month that I booked, I experienced nothing short of a staff dedicated to ensuring that all guests and friends felt welcomed and happy during their stay. The facilities are absolutely stunning - simple, clean, chic - and the indoor/outdoor atmosphere that has been created is something special. If I had a question about what to eat for the night, it wasn’t rare to have someone from the staff willing to walk me out down the street toward their recommended restaurants. By the way, the location is perfect - between SOL and La Latina metros (about a 4 minute walk each way) you could be anywhere in the city on public transport from door to door within 25 minutes. I will be back in Madrid next summer for another month and plan to book my stay at The Hat for the duration again... I consider myself a seasoned traveler and this is the best hostel I have ever stayed!"
