Traveler impressions of Port Douglas
We've been there 5 times in 7 years... before and after kids. Amazing place to relax if you want or get active if you feel.
Port Dougles is busy city with lots of holiday makers and lots a good restuarants and retail shops, the great walking tracks around the beach areas, the 4 mile beach was beautiful.
If you want sun and beaches then Port Douglas is a great place to visit. It is set up for tourists as has lots of accomodation restaurants and shopping.
Lovely area with plenty of restaurants. Hire a car and make a few day trips to the Daintree, Mossman Gorge, Skyrail, Kuranda Train and visit the beaches.
Port Douglas is a beautiful destination. It has a lot of lovely restaurants, spas, boating activities etc, but it is the type of place that you could spend as little or as much money as you want.
Port Douglas is beautiful, well worth a trip to especially on the weekend as the Sunday market is excellent.
Not a lot to do in Port Douglas itself, travel to the Daintree is recommended, and a visit to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures is a must.
Port Douglas is about an hour drive north of Cairns. The town is fairly small, but has quite a number of places to stay.
Town seems to need a good spruce up. Lower end of town in particular.needs a movie theatre or a video shop access able almost 24/7.
Try the Siam Thai restaurant in the main street, great food and service. Toad racing is great fun too!
Upscale area -- very pretty and friendly -- perfect for catching boat to the Great Barrier Reef. Found it much nicer than Cairns
lovely place to see. Bring plenty of cash thou as everything is triple the price. You want fish and chips that's $60 thanks.
Small tourist town with just one main street. No much to see or do by itself but good base to go to the Reef and the Rain forest.
Loved it. Great beaches, parks etc. Easy access to the reef and islands. Central to visiting north areas of Mossman and Cape Tribulation, west to tablelands and south to Cairns.
Lovely drive from cairns airport, places to visit mentioned previously, many great restaurants, the marina and associated trips available like the low isles
Port Douglas is a beautiful, pretty location with lots of activities to do or just to relax if that's your thing.
Visit to the Daintree is a must. Bit disappointed that Mossman Gorge is now restricted to shuttle bus and walking.
There is a great market on Sunday mornings at the end of town, and also a Wednesday afternoon market at the marina, which is smaller.
Pleny of excursions available, very friendly tour staff and plenty to see if you have your own car. Really an enjoyalepalce to stay in August.
Port Douglas has a bit of everything. It has great restaurants and a lot of variety, plus it also has lots to do; for example reef tours, rainforest walks, wildlife parks, etc.
In off season Port Douglas is a relax and calm place. In busy season there are lots of people around.
I would definitely reccommend the tin shed and the sitting by St Marys by the sea church with a beer at sunset
Best place to access the Great Barrier Reef. Small town with lots of dining options. Easy to get around on foot.
We traveled during jellyfish season but since we stayed in this wonderful hotel we had a large lagoon to swim in.
One of most beautiful towns I've stayed in in Australia. while tourism has obviously made a enourmous impact on the town, it has managed to keep a lot of its charm.
A resort/yachting town. Very nice stuff to do in the surrounding area, so a good base. Many excellent dining choices, all expensive by Australian standards; two mains and a bottle of Oz wine will easily break $100.
Port Douglas is great holiday destination. While a tourist destination it doesn't seem to have lost a small town feel.
Friendly people who are always ready to help you with anything you need. The weather was perfect and the evenings were warm but not sticky.
This was the Australia we were looking for when we came from the USA. Port Douglas has all the natural beauty and wildlife you could want to see.
