More about Prachuap Khiri Khan

Prachuab Khiri Khan is the province to the south of Bangkok, best known for the beach resort of Hua Hin. Travelers will find the countryside of Prachuab Khiri Khan full of Thai history, with ancient temples and traditional farm houses. While most travelers gravitate towards the resorts of Hua Hin and Cha Am, the coastal capital – also called Prachuab Khiri Khan – is an equally interesting destination.

Once a US Air Force base, Prachuab Khiri Khan is now a quiet fishing town that follows the blueprint of most coastal Thai villages. Fresh seafood forms the basis of local cuisine, evening activities center on the night markets, and temples are the most important landmarks. On the edge of town, Wat Thammikaram draws almost as many tourists as it does monkeys.

Just off the southern coastline is a privately owned island called Koh Talu. Koh Talu is a 30-minute boat trip from the mainland town of Bangsaphan and features a tropical rainforest, limestone caves, and a shallow reef inhabited by crab and fish. The adventurous can also discover the island's caves by kayak.

Be sure to check out the interactive map of Prachuab Khiri Khan for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
