Traveler impressions of Queenstown
Sights, history of mining, great old pub with history. Visit the museum so many old photos. Can take a mining tour and train tour.
Queenstown is a small mining town (zinc, lead and copper) in the mountainous NW of Tasmania. The real tourist attraction is the hundred-year-old cog railway down through the mountains to the port of Strahan.
Nice place to do a fly through visit but keep going to Strahan or Zeehan.Only touristy thing here is Queenstown to Strahan Steam Locomotive scenic railway trip.
We visit annually to feel the history of mining and the wealth that Tasmania was built on by tough, hard-working miners and their families who were totally isolated by road for many years.
