Lovely city. Very friendly people, compared to the big cities. Take a minimum of 3 nights there, so you have time at least 1 day to explore the surrounding region.
Good restaurant with good price is Trattoria Fontegiusta, it is located on Via Camollia close to the old city gate on the main street. Found a small handmade leather wallet shop closeby on Via Camollia, Casa Della Pelle, it has very good prices. Found the best gellato at Gelateria Caribia close to the central open arena. Must go on a tour to see Chianti countyside to enjoy the view, better hire your own guide to be able to relax and enjoy everything. Must see the small old town Monteriggioni, lovely old town with handmade crafts and pretty sight of Chianti region from top of the hill.
Siena is the capitol to Toscana and full of famous buildings and sites (piazzas). Most beautiful is Piazza del Campo.
Siena has a strong bond with Rome as is evident by the statues of Romulus and Remus that are all over the city.
Legend has it that Senio, the son of Remus with his brother, Aschio fled Rome to Siena Vecchio and founded the city after a mythological race known as the ‘Palio alla Lunga’.
