It was quite a distance to walk to the hostel if you have much lugguage; it is close to bus stops and close to the old city; one can actuall walk there. the staff are friendly but oe of the staff members ofte turned the volume of the hi fi to the maimum and his friendly laughter was deafening. It is a good udge hotel wih ensuite bathroom. It offers a big locker in which you place your big suitcases But you need to have your ow lock. And this hostel belongs to a chain establishment that has hostels in brazil and other south amerian countries.

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm, and had the most pleasant experience. Everything is clean and fresh. Staff is extremely nice and friendly. The room is comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms are modern and functional. It comes highly recommended!

perfect place to getaway best mattresses, spotless clean, crisp white sheets and reverse cycle air con. nice and quiet with free breakfast and in a great location in the old city. no one staying when I was there so not social but it was a nice break from the grubby dorms rooms.

Pros - amazing location, friendly and helpful staff, clean, decent breakfast (carbs and fruit), good WiFi and hangout area Cons - tiny and cramped dorm rooms that smell strongly of mold/mildew. There’s next to no room for your bag. Thankfully I was there in the off season (April), I cannot imagine what these rooms are like when it’s high season and full. There’s not much privacy for showering. Kitchen is very small, again, I cannot imagine what it’s like to try and cook in there in high season.

Comfortable, clean, accommodating & kind staff, hot shower, real breakfast & strong wifi. I’m a solo backpacker traveling off season so it was quiet here, but same as everywhere else in Colonia. Would recommend. One suggestion: handsoap in the mixed dorm bathroom please!

This hostel is one of the friendliest places I've ever stayed filled with art and run by charming proprietors,. It's also situated within walking distance of all the historic sites. Some of the facilities are aging but it adds to the atmosphere to ge honest. Thanks for a great stay!

talk about service. i have stayed at hotels from the high to the low. while the price for this was quite high for what you get in terms of facilities (major holiday in argentina had driven up the price of everything), all was very comfortable but this will definitely not suit the business, or high-maintenance traveler. while expensive hotels including notables like the casa puebla were nearly hostile about any questions or service requests, the manager at this establishment not only offered to call me a remise to get me to the bus station but also called to find out the bus schedule and then asked me if i needed help getting a hotel room in colonia!!!! these people go out of their way asking frequently if all is okay with the room, if you need anything and the like. this is truly family in the best possible sense of the word and as i said, not for the business or high-maintenance traveler but very very enjoyable.

The owner speaks excellent English. Can easily be reached by contacting the hotel and arranging transport from the bus terminal in Salto or Termas de Daymon. I booked for 2 nights and stayed for 3 weeks! Quiet and no one here.

The hotel room was fine, clean and tidy, ac worked well, tv etc. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good. There was some renovation work goig on during the daytime, but this would only be a tempory thing. The hotel was in the centre of town, I'm not sure I'd have discarded one of my backpack padlocks at the well, top of road though. There were plenty of reasonably priced restaurants close the hotel. Loads of shops. This was near the end of my stay in South America, there were plenty of places to buy souvenirs, shop around. Mercardo de los Artesanos a few bloks down was particularly good I thought. Montevideo is a very pleasant city, friendly people. There were plenty of places to change money, I even managed to change sterling into USD at a very good rate. I had arrived from Rio Grande, Brazil, wildlife enthusiasts, the stretch south to the border, Chui was very boggy/pampas, there were loads of birds and I saw a couple of large crocs. I really wanted to see capybara, and I did, quite a few, some right by the side of the road as large brown pig shaped rodents, some as large as a small dustbin. There were a few remaining rheas, it was the weekend, the colourful local gauchos were holding a meeting. I departed for Argentina using the ferry, two sailings per day. Tickets in the docks, a restricted area, ther was a chunk of the battle ship Graf Spee that had presumably been salvaged. The fierce gun battle between the German and British parties was well explained. This was a very pleasant hotel and a very pleasant couple of days I had in Montevideo too.

The hotel is under renovation. Noisy during the day. Wifi didn't work. Stuff can't speak English. But tried hard to help us.

Punta Del Este is very beautiful and those luck enough to own property here charge accordingly. There are many very expensive hotels and some very expensive and low end hostels. We decided to spend a bit past our flashpacker budget and stay at Florinda for 3 nights. The hotel was well run. The rooms were very clean. The breakfast was open for three hours with a nice selection of pastries, fruit and cereal. The hotel is right next to the beach and is very nice. Overall, a great stay.

First paying customer ever in this hostel. And i had a pleasant stay here with good tips about the city and a big nice room.

The overall experience exceeded our expectations. The room was large with all amenities of good standard. A good-sized private balcony was a bonus. The restaurant was pleasant and the breakfast more than adequate by South American standards. A word of warning-not all El Viajero Hotels are of the same standard. We booked ahead to in one in Punta del Este, and it turned out to be very much a backpacker hotel, and a different proposition altogether

A friend recommended the Palladium. I gave it 5 stars simply because it is. If I do return to Montevideo, this will be the place.

Great hotel with a great atmosphere. Marcelo ( the owner ) will make you feel like home. You have to try the hotel restaurant as it is all home made and cheaper than restaurants. Only 200 meters walk to the termas.

It is exactly what you read in other reviews......a beautiful building in the heart of the old town. The internal marble staircase wraps around the ornate, gilded, open lift, which is straight out of Agatha Christie novel. We loved it. Our room was functional, with a big bathroom, in room safe, TV (with a couple of English channels), air con that worked well as a heater, fridge, and a great balcony overlooking the streets below. All staff were friendly and helpful. We felt at home and safe in the time warp that is Hotel Palacio.

Hotel is well-located, just around the corner of the main shopping street. Nearby there are plenty of options for food and grocery shopping. Room does not have "normal' power sockets and so we had to charge our phone and laptop with the reception (this is what I meant with "update") Shower was of a good heat and power. Unfortunately no water-heater (for tea/coffee) in the room (should "update" themselves. Breakfast was acceptable with a positive high variety of fruits The beds sinks a bit in the middle *(should "update")

We had a wonderful stay at the Chalé with Sofia as a wonderful host! Would recommend it to anyone and especially to those who who are looking for a quiet weekend away freom stress (and some delicious asado)

The hotel is located in a good best place for tourism in Montevideo. It is close to the main spots: Teatro Solis, Plaza Independencia, Ciudad Vieja and a 10 minutes walk from Mercado de Puerto. In spite they did not change the beddings in four days, the rooms were cleaned everyday. The problem with the room is the bathroom: it gets wet every shower you take. It maybe be really annoying for some people. Regarding the hotel as a whole, the worst part is the breakfast: unlees you go for breakfast by 8 o'clock you will get only some pieces of bread and dirty glasses. The cleaness is also terrible!! The hotel management should take care of this issue, because the hotel is not bad and does not deserve such a breakfast service. As for the swimming pool, the water is not warm.

Interesting lifts with trellis-type inner gate, not seen elsewhere for decades. The reception staff spoke rudimentary English, so you really need some rudimentary Spanish. Woken at six by the horse-drawn dumpster divers in the street. Nothing particularly Palatial, London-related, or obviously Persian about the place, but a pleasant enough stay. Contrary to the description here, there is no in-room safe but there is in-room wifi.

This is a wonderful hotel in Old City. 20 metres from the pedestrian street where you can have a wine and pizza at “Alvarez” or you can drop down to the Puerto Mercado for a meal and shopping spree. The 116 bus from directly across the road takes you into the heart of the new city and down to the beach to see the MONTEVIDEO letters for 39 pesos. They also offer an amazing day trip with a local company to Colonia for US $64 / 2145 Pesos. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and speak some English. Rooms are immaculately clean and modern. Minibar, hairdryer and aircon provided. Breakfast is full and hearty with breads, cornflakes, fruits, meats/cheese and cakes. We loved it here.

Nice and not expensive hotel, but wood floor is too noisy and easily to wake up when people walking fast

We had the best experience at Posada La Flor, from the moment we checked-in until we checked-out. The room was very spacious, clean and had really comfortable beds. The staff were super friendly with us and our kids. We were able to leave our bags there after checking out until we left Colonia. And to top it off, I was surprised with an amazing (and unexpected) gluten-free breakfast as staff found out I am coeliac. I wouldn't book anywhere else during our next trip!

We stayed at this hotel several times for business, and we will come back. Very good located, great service and staff, and super comfortable rooms and beds.
