Lovely hotel good breakfast ”
Nice staff overall very good
Modernised pleasant hotel. Had large sea view room. Just showing a little wear and tear in placed. Staff were extremely helpful
Worth considering, but bathroom, noise and valeting are issues”
My son and I stayed at this hotel for seven nights on a bed and breakfast basis sharing a twin room. It is set on the East Cliff area of Bournemouth looking out to the sea. It is reasonably close to the beach and other facilities, about a half mile walk I thought. Check in was professionally handled and we took dinner in the hotel as it was a bit late. In fact, we did this on four nights. Dinner was good in terms of quality and value, about £20 per person, less if you book half board I guess. It was irritating to have to wait more than half an hour beyond our booked time on one occasion. Public areas were pleasant though the lift, only three people at a time, was too small. We had to use the stairs on occasion, fine for us but more difficult for others perhaps. The room was a small, recently refurbished twin. The two single beds were pushed together. We parted them each night but we were only able to leave nine inches or so between them. Cupboard and wardrobe space was sufficient for a weeks stay. Two easy chairs, a table and a desk were a plus as was the addition of a USB point for charging in addition to a reasonable number of electrical sockets. No fridge was provided but a hairdryer was. A smallish flat screen TV was centrally placed on the wall facing the bed. We did not use it so can't comment on channels. Wifi access was available and the signal was secure and the speed was about acceptable. The bathroom was large with a bath and shower available. The shower was not easy to use and while basic toiletries were provided, housekeeping did not always replace them so the frequent need to seek replenishment with reception was tiresome. In fact, housekeeping was a problem throughout our stay, culminating in our room not being valeted at all by 7.30 pm on one day. Drainage from the bathroom sink was slow, shower pressure was too low and the mirror above the sink too high for anyone less than about 6 feet tall to use easily. The heated towel rail was not sec
Nice clean and tidy hotel ”
No shower curtain/screen in bathroom so water just spilt all over a slippery tiled floor when showering so could of been very dangerous so on second night i decided to use the bath only to find there was no plug so back to the slow running shower i went
Very fine choice, great atmosphere, good location, super staff!”
We really enjoyed the Cumberland. The room was very large and pleasant to be in, had been newly renovated. The young international staff are very friendly and the atmosphere in the bar and lounge is so good, I did not want to leave. It is on the cliff top equidistant to Bournemouth and Boscombe piers, all easily reachable by foot, if you are quick you can walk from the railway station in 12 minutes. Bournemouth was lovely, even in March, with super beaches and a nice, small town centre.
Beautiful place to stay”
The room was lovely and clean, and so warm in the evening too which was nice, will defo stay again 👍🏻👍🏻
It was okay !”
The staff were friendly, the room was clean but it was looking tired and every time we entered the room you were hit with a damp, musty smell and we had to open the windows for a while and you certainly wouldn't want to hang your clothes in the wardrobe. So it was ok, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend and I would try a different one next time but it was ok for the money.
Nice hotel, amazing food ”
We had a short break in Sept with the grandparents. They found the rooms quite hot and noisy with the window(s) open. Apart from that, we had a great time. The decor has a luxurious, bold feel - bags of Art Deco character. The staff were fantastic - cheerful, helpful, professional. The Vertana restaurant was superb - I particularly enjoyed the salads. There's a Sun evening to Fri lunchtime BOGOF on main courses which makes it spectacularly good value (better value than the main restaurant, I reckon, although we didn't try it). The wine wasn't cheap but it was excellent. Service was a little slow at times - no bad thing - so I'd let them know if you're in a hurry. The breakfast was outstanding. The heated outdoor pool was refreshing if a bit cold for our young son, although you can also use the facilities of the neighbouring hotel which has a lovely indoor pool. Plenty of (free) parking, a short walk to the beach and town, and decent (500Mb free per 24hr) internet too. I'm sure we'll go back. Most guests were fairly elderly but don't let that put you off if you're not. It was full for a reason - it's an excellent hotel.
Beds were little bit tired plus thhe parking took one hour to find
Lovely hotel very friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel is a lovely art deco building with polite and friendly staff at reception. The hotel was clean. It had a cocktail bar and lots of places to chill out and relax. The pool looked big,but I never used the pool.My room was fantastic, yes it wasn't modern but it was large and clean which is what you want in a hotel. What made the room for me was the balcony with loungers a table and chairs and views over the sea and pool.I have stayed in lots of hotels in England and this was the best for value ,facilities and size of room.I must add I have given this hotel a glowing review based on my hotel room which was a family room.My six year old loved the hotel and my mum .I don't know what the other rooms are like.I would stay there again. It is a 20min walk to Bournemouth pier but has a bus stop outside hotel. No negatives as I didn't need to complain about anything whilst I was there.Even though it was during August and a full hotel it did nt feel crowded. The lift was small but my mum doesnt like lift's so was planning on walking. We were on the first floor. The best three star I have stayed in.
A warm welcome from all staff and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely food, clean room and surroundings. Could easily have stayed longer
It was a fabulous hotel, lovely rooms, great service, excellent location! The experience as a whole was amazing. I felt that the journals are very useful as they hold all the questions I had to ask! Although, me and my partner are young we felt a bit out of place. However, the hotel met all standards I had in place when I was researching it and with that very eligible people!
One night in Bournemouth”
We only stayed for one night during the air show. Obviously both the resort and hotel were very busy for this event but the hotel did not feel crowded. Service was very good and efficient. Would definitely stay again.
Very clean great location nice breakfast ”
All was great except no fridge and air con jn room
Very pleasant with friendly and helpful staff”
Optional two hour extension to the 11.00 Check-Out time. Cost £10. Comfortable lounge
Good hotel, Great location ”
booked this hotel at short notice and were delighted to find that we had been upgraded with a sea view room. Room size was adequate, bathroom large (long!). Decoration was as expected in a three star hotel and was in good condition. Decor in the public areas was fitting for an art deco style hotel. I loved the chrome urns/vessels in reception. Pool area and lido was impressive but due to the weather we could not make best use of it. Food was very good - especially the lamb shank in the Ventana brasserie. Service throughout was very good with all staff being very friendly and efficient. We liked it so much that we extended our stay, this being easily accommodated by the reception staff. An indoor swimming pool and other leisure activities are available at the sister hotel next door. Overall a very pleasant stay....and we shall definitely visit again
Tired and depressing”
i was initially placed in a first floor room, with a panoramic view of the car park, next to the fire escape and the air conditioning ducts for the entire hotel. ironically, my room didn't have air conditioning and was uncomfortably hot. the bed springs had collapsed and the bathroom was not as clean as it should be. there was a wedding reception in the ground floor area below. my next room was much better, but still hot and a bit shabby. the lift holds a max. 3 people and is permanently full of the old and the infirm. wi-fi did not work in any part of the hotel. breakfast was ok, but by then i couldn't wait to get out and breath fresh air again. it's in a decent location and the exterior has a nice art deco appearance, but i would not recommend this hotel to anyone still in possession of their own teeth and hips.
great hotel- fantastic views”
very happy with this booking. the hotel was lovely, and service good. didn't get chance to sample the pool, as we had to work late, but would definately use again, and recommend. better than a holiday inn express !
Great location but room was bit dated ”
on arrival we found the car park was very small so had to use another hotel in the chain up the street.the room was small and a little dated and small, the bathroom had very old fittings.we found the the staff very good aswell as the food which was very nice.we stayed two nights on a sunday and monday night but we found to our horror on the monday night there was a private function and disco which went on till midnight, we were offered earplugs to help with the noise and a change off room all around eleven oclock . it was such a shame it spoiled our trip
