Great location, friendly helpful staff, unfortunate that the place was undergoing renovations. Appreciate that this happens, but signs posted works between 9am - 5pm, yet they where working from around 7am - 8pm. Otherwise shower closed with curtain which caused floor to get very wet, not sure why it’s designed this way as plenty of room for shower door. Otherwise a great stay and would recommend once construction is complete.
The Hotel is in the Heart (Middle) of Amsterdam with all necessary requirements.”
The hotel is in the heart of Amsterdam with all necessary requirements that a human need, food, groceries, entertainments, tours offices etc... Very friendly staff in the hotel, especially receptionists. For sure, this hotel will be my best hotel whenever I visited Amsterdam... Thank you for your kindness...all the best...
Good Stay @ the Hotel”
Hotel is centrally located and ideal - staffs are friendly and meets well with the services and its standards. However price is higher than its standards - I would say hotel would do better with more steady prices.
Room was tidy and cosy with tasteful decorations, but it was also tiny - barely any room to walk after luggages were opened. Bathroom was... beyond tiny. However, officers at reception were fantastic - always helpful and cheerful even after fielding many questions from us :) Location was fantastic too - attractions were within walking distance, and so was the supermarket!
Hotel Amsterdam never fails me. Been staying here many times and this time I was given the same room like last year which is good. The room may be small but the cleanliness and quietness of surroundings made up for it. The closeness to the main station, the shopping and eateries close by and within my reach made me come back each time. I'm always greeted with cheerfulness of the staff that made my days while I was there. I will come back to Hotel Amsterdam .... and oh, thank you for the gift. You see, Hotel Amsterdam appreciates her guests who keeps coming back :-)
Centrally located, nice restaurant”
This is the third time in 3 years that I stayed in this hotel. Needless to say, the location is great, within Walking distance to the train station, attractions, the colorful red light district, opposite the shopping center, near many good restaurants. The rooms are very small but are clean. Price is on high side, but I guess That's the standard for a hotel in that area. The hotel restaurant serve nice food and breakfast as Well. Overall is a pleasant experience, but wished the rooms are bigger.
You're having jet lag after so many hours on flight, the weather is cold but thinking that The Red Lion is within walking distance (just 5 mins) from the Central Station and I will be greeted with warm smiles, I am going to feel welcome. That was exactly what happened. The room may be small but the amenities complete. You don't hear traffic or constructions works outside and the nights were comfortable. I had uninterrupted sleep. Your welcome box of biscuits from the management who appreciates your patronage in the past. Nice gesture there. The wifi has improved a lot and the connection was fantastic. Just walking out of the hotel is a Shopping Centre and other gift shops. Eateries are here, there and everywhere. I'll come back knowing I have always been taken care of by The Red Lion :-)
I came back to the Red Lion 4 days later after visiting Munich. The usual welcome greeted me and I had the same room. The treatment was as always been in keeping the guests satisfied. I always feel good about coming to The Red Lion because not only I do not have to walk a mile to the Hotel but I will be treated nice and proper. The room and its amenities are fine with me. So it is a small room but comfortable and I like it. I don't hear traffic or any constructions that was going on outside. What's more, it's a safe hotel. I'll be back but each time before you leave, don't forget to pay the City Tax which is compulsory for every guest :-)
Awesome Hotel with over100 years of history”
Staying in this hotel with over 100 years of history, it was one of my great experiences staying in amsterdam. And its super centrally located and you can just go everywhere without taking the transportation. You can walk to red light district by just the means of walking! its awesome!

Comfortable and tranquil”
I returned after 4 days in Munich to a nice welcome. I do not have to show my documents and they whizz me up to room, this time on the 4th floor. Just as comfortable and quiet. I was presented with a nice box of chocolate in appreciation of my return. That was really a nice gesture from the Management. What I will not forget is when I left my wallet at the lift near the reception and went up to my room still not realizing I walked away without my wallet. Just 5 mins later, 2 female adminstrative hotel staff nicely attired, knocked on my door and returned my wallet with everything intact! It made my day because I had to leave for home the next day. Imagine if my wallet would have gone into the wrong hands! When honesty is the best policy, you can never go wrong choosing Hotel Amsterdam De Roode Leeuw. I will be more careful the next time and I will return to stay at this Hotel. Honestly :-)
A reliable hotel”
They remembered me as soon as I stepped in at the Lobby that I have been there before. I feel good when someone remembers me by name. I had a speedy check-in. The room may be small but everything is within my reach. I was given a quiet room on the 3rd Floor. Surprise, surprise, the Hotel now allows outside food to be brought into the room. It was not allowed before and I was quite frustrated. The excuse was the food in the room will attract rats! .. but rules are rules. There was apparently free wifi with passwords given to guests as soon as they checked in but I could not get access at all. Well, I don't really need internet when I am on holiday, so, it doesn't bother me. All in all, after the 2nd time around, this Hotel still did justice to me and I will be there again :-)
Very nice experience ”
Defiantly gonna come back again , Hotel next to damm square, Close to red light district, shopping, museums and restaurants The rooms is small and the toilet as well is too small this is the only issue
I took one of the larger rooms and the size was great. I didn't have a view or anything but that also made the rooms very quiet. Two large twin beds for a couple and a baby. Just walk out and voila, in the middle of the city. As I have lived in Amsterdam for over 10 years, I can vouch for this location.
Good location near many attractions.”
Only a five minute walk from Central Station and located on the corner of Dam Square so easy access to many points of interest and for those slightly further away the tram stop is right outside the door. Many shops, bars and restaurants nearby and only three minute walk from the famous Red Light area. A double room additionally booked short notice and not via Agoda was somewhat expensive and although of standard size had no view; only heavy rain prevented me looking for a cheaper alternative. However, the hotel restaurant was very good and staff always very helpful.
Nice hotel in a perfect location”
This is a comfortable European hotel meaning if you are looking for large rooms go elsewhere. If, however, you want a clean, well run establishment this is the place for you. Besides being located very near Dam Square it is on the tram lines 2 and 5 which take one to the museum district. The rooms are excellently sound proofed; when we open a window for some air we were amazed at the noise and closed it quickly and restored our tranquility.
Great Location Luxury modern hotel ”
Located in the heart of Amsterdam central, surrounding by many store, resto and entertainment places. Very clean, great food and helpful staff. We had enjoyable moment there
Superior room type doesn’t match. Renovation without given us any notice before we book !”
We booked a superior room, supposed the room came with big bathroom and bathtub but ended up got a small bathroom without bathtub only stand for shower. We had asked reception to confirm, they told us our room was superior room, we came for enjoy travel lazy to argue at that moments. The most “best” thing is they really gave high floor room -4th floor (highest floor) but without elevator ! Their elevator out of service due to renovation, we need to walk by staircase up and down Everyday, this is first time met such a bad luck of us. To advice Hotel/Agoda Management should give a notice to the customer ! We’re so disappointed .....
Best thing about the hotel is their location”
The hotel is very central which is great, but it's quite over-priced, even for an European hotel. It's quite pointless to order two twin beds, because they're pushed together, so it might even be more comfortable to just get a double bed. I also believe when a 4-star hotel is going through renovations of their restaurant, the rates should be adjusted to that fact. Because at that moment they're not longer a 4-star facility.
