I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Resol Ueno! The location is absolutely strategic — right next to JR Ueno Station and just about a 5-minute walk to the lively Ameyoko market. It’s also very convenient to access the Keisei Skyliner, Ginza Line and Hibiya Line, making it a perfect hub for exploring Tokyo. The hotel itself is very clean, neat and comfortable. I loved how refreshing the shower spray felt, especially in the hot weather. They also provide laundry facilities to wash and dry clothes, which was a huge plus for travelers. Another highlight is the cozy lobby area where guests can chill and enjoy complimentary pastries and soup — such a thoughtful touch! This year marks their 5th anniversary, and it’s easy to see why the hotel has earned such a strong reputation. With a perfect mix of comfort, convenience, and warm hospitality, Hotel Resol Ueno truly made my Tokyo trip memorable. Highly recommended!
The lack of photos on Ueno Resol Hotel's profile page is a disservice to the wonderful character of the hotel! Rooms are typical Tokyo sizes but spacious bathroom, tastefully decorated and thoughtful room layout made this a great stay. The staff was always present and willing to help - all spoke good English the week we stayed there. The common area on the ground floor was beautifully decorated Halloween theme during our early October stay. Additionally, they had well organised guide books with very good recommendations of food and attraction. We had the breakfast too one morning and was delicious. I love how they had ample choice or tea and soups throughout the day. Lastly, location is superb. Just 3mins walk from Ueno station (metro and JR lines) and a lots of food and bars in the area! Definitely worth returning!
Lobby service: There's dried soup cubes from Soup Tokyo, pastries/muffins, coffee and tea options for guests to consume between 10.30am to 9pm. We just need to self-service. Wide range of amenities are also available for you to pick up at the lobby (toothbrush, toothpaste, face mask, bath salts, etc.,). Room: Space is rather small and requires skilful arrangement and placement of luggage (if you have large or more than 1). Most of the time, my luggage is kept closed and standing. Toilet is of typical Japan hotel size with good water flow and temperature control. Bed was comfortable. Wished I could have stayed a few more days rather than just 1 night on two occasions. They allowed me to keep one of my luggage with them over a few days as I will be returning to the same hotel again for another stay. Neighbourhood: Close proximity to JR Ueno Station and a slightly further walk to the Skyliner station. If coming from Skyliner station, just keep to the pavement walk along the outside of the JR Ueno station. Unsure: Can't remember if self-service laundry is available here, but I did not find any indications of where the laundry room is located. Guess there isn't one.
We had a great 5 night stay in Resol Ueno. We had previously stayed in Shinjuku and Asakusa during our visits to Tokyo and this was our first time choosing to stay in Ueno. Area was good and access to the Ueno Station was flat and easy. Once we discover the Iriya Exit from the station made it all the easier and quicker to get to the hotel. Staff was wonderful and helpful. Check in was fast and breezy and we got the connecting rooms we asked for. Hotel had a soup and coffee bar at the lobby with comfortable seating area. Frozen pastries were also available for those who might want fresh bakes for breakfast or tea. Hotel interior was new and modern and I would stay here again during my next visits to Tokyo. 10/10!
Location: Convenient, just a bit of a walk out of Central Gate - Asakusa exit; it's really not far from the station, but because Ueno station is very large, it feels like a long walk. Not many people, very comfortable. *For those who like barbecue, I recommend the Fundes building, on the 10th floor, there is a yakiniku restaurant called Ushihachi; good quality meat, reasonable prices. Cleanliness: Very clean, strong water pressure, the restroom has a heated mirror to prevent fogging. Staff service: The staff can communicate in English, very nice and willing to help. Facilities: Excellent, really recommend it. Almost everything is available in the lobby, you can help yourself to what you need, it's all by DHC. There is tea (various flavors, very good), coffee, soup, and croissants (delicious, don't miss this) available for free in the lobby. The hotel is considered new, the restroom is spacious enough, but it seems to encroach on the room space, making it look small. The only downside to this hotel is the room size. For a 15 square meter room, in a Japanese style, it’s considered normal; suitable for no more than 2 people, it’s manageable to turn and walk around, haha. But it's really too cramped for tall people, more than 2 members, or if you have a lot of belongings, it’s quite difficult. Compared to the price, if we don't count the facilities, it feels a bit too expensive.
The hotel facilities are very new and clean, and I found the staff to be attentive. The location is ideal — the Ueno area feels genuinely authentic, giving you the sense that you're truly experiencing Japan. You can easily walk to the station, where there are plenty of shops that stay open late, which is very convenient. The breakfast offered is good, but it's not the traditional hotel breakfast some travelers might expect. After a few days, it starts to feel a bit repetitive, and I think this is definitely a downside. The room itself was different from the one shown in the booking photos — it was smaller and didn’t have the chair next to the bed that was pictured. That said, the room was comfortable overall. The bed was great, and the air conditioning was fully adjustable. However, I did notice a persistent damp, smoky smell in the bathroom, which seemed to stem from a humidity and ventilation issue. Another small inconvenience was the laundry area: there are only two machines, and they are washer-dryer combos. Drying clothes took much longer than expected — I had to run several cycles and it still took almost two hours to dry just a few garments. Plus, the laundry room was often very busy. I would probably stay at this hotel again, but considering the price, I might explore other options in the area that could offer a similar experience.
We stayed at the Hotel RESOL Ueno for five nights in April ‘25. It is in a fabulous location, right across the road from the Ueno station (which connects to most of Tokyo) and a short walk from the gorgeous Ueno park and a great shopping/restaurant hub. The room was clean and nicely decorated, but small. Very typical for Japan/Tokyo, but we did struggle to fit our luggage (two medium suitcases and carry on - it was the end of a five week trip and we’d bought a lot of souvenirs by then). My husband at 6ft2 was also slightly too long for the bed, but the bed itself was comfortable. I enjoyed the deep bath and the free bath salts. The staff were nice and there was an extensive collection of amenities to help yourself to/hire in reception. The lobby also has a great seating area with unlimited tea & coffee, which was a plus considering there wasn’t really space to hang out inside the room other than the bed. Overall, it was good value for money in an expensive city.
The hotel is very clean from the lobby to the room . Even though the room is pretty much irregular size, but the bathroom is quite spacious. Train station is within a few minutes walk. One of the best location I'd say as it's near everything we need but peaceful and quiet enough for us to rest. Besides hairdryer, a coffee maker machine, and phone charger cable are provided in the room. They're also tea, bread and soup free of charge in the lobby from 10 to 9 which are surprisingly tasty. We surely be back again. I'm impressed.
As a solo traveler, I thought the size of the room was just nice for me. I didn't need a huge space. I was carrying two luggages and the room has enough space for me also. It was a cozy stay, clean, bed was comfortable, shower was decent. The hotel provides breakfast too and it's individual portion, which I think was really cute. The location was really convenient as well, pretty near the train station and also the airport train station (walking distance). Overall I think this is a good choice for solo traveller! Very convenient.
Great property that’s located right next to Ueno Station and several convenience stores within walking distance. Although the room was small, it was enough for a solo traveler to be comfortable enough for relaxation and sleep. May be difficult with 2 in a room, may have to move luggages around. Wifi was good enough for browsing. Amenities are self served on the first floor near the front desk which was convenient as you walked back in from your daily adventure in Ueno. Liked that I had a small fridge in room. Their house keeping style is different than what myself and probably many others are used to; but it worked out fine for me. They clean every 3 or 4 days if you are staying long term but they replace towels daily and empty your waste bin by having you leave it outside of room. Had no issues with this as my room stayed clean throughout my stay. They do have self service washer/dryer units on certain floor, believe it was the 2nd. They only had 2 units so it could pose a problem if you wait to do laundry at the last minute and someone beat you to it. Convenient to have them available at a hotel though. Overall, I’d highly recommend this hotel for those who want the convenience of a public transport system being a few minutes walk away, especially solo travelers.
The location if 5 mins walk to ueno station, close to family mart and some restaurants. But the room is really small, hardly to open a luggage and no daily cleaning. But staff were quiet friendly and helpful. Check in and out were very easy.
This place offers incredible value with a prime location that's perfect for exploring. The cleanliness is top-notch, making it feel welcoming and fresh. Staff members are friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. Facilities are well-maintained, and amenities like hot water and reliable Wi-Fi make for a comfortable stay. While the view could be improved, everything else more than compensates for it, making this a highly recommended spot.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was a very nice with simple and straight forward services. The space was a little tight for the both of us and our luggage, but we managed to make space. They provided new towels and daily trash take-out. It was easy to find as the hotel was right next to Ueno Station; making travelling from place to place very convenient. They don't have larger rooms, so not ideal for families, but great for single or coupled travellers.
The hotel was the closest to the jr ueno train station as claimed. In comparison to other hotels I had considered prior to selecting the hotel. When I was at ueno station. I was extremely happy for selecting the hotel as all the other hotels which I contemplated on, was a far walk and very troublesome if travelling with big luggages as there is a lot of stairs with no elevator nearby. The hotel was calm and quiet despite us arriving within the golden week. The staff was very helpful and could converse in English. The rooms were small but bigger than a typical standard japanese hotel. The best part of the room was the toilet. The toilet was clean and very very spacious. The air-condition was cold despite the blazing heat outside. However you will need to adjust the controls on the air-condition unit. Not to mentioned, this is the only hotel that had a working refrigerator and provided drinking water daily. The staff was very helpful in our queries. They are very quick to help store luggages when you arrive earlier than the expected chech in time and also after check out . I hope they keep up the good work in managing the hotel and will definitely stay in this hotel again.
For starters the staff is very friendly and respectful. The room was small but had all the amenities we needed. The breakfast was simple but just enough and they also provided toiletries amenities for free. There’s even a free umbrella rental so you don’t have to go and buy one. Ueno location was perfect as it’s so close to the metro station and tons of dining and shopping. Ueno park isn’t far either. Very quiet snd relaxing stay, would definitely come back.
Location is good as it is close to the Ueno station. Exit out of Asakusa exit and turn right where you can find the lift. We didn’t go far enough to the right so thought that there was no lift and ended up carrying our luggages down a few flight of steps. Room was small but bathroom atea was bigger than the other hotels we have stayed in. Our bed was small but was comfortable in a way that the movement of the person does not really affect the person on the other side of the bed. The standout is the amenities provided. Pyjamas was provided as usual but was really soft. They even provide face masks which I greatly appreciated. The only negative is the lights are really dim for our liking. Other than that, this is a nice, chic hotel in a good location.
It’s our first time in Japan and we chose the Hotel Resol Ueno because of the positive reviews and location. It is a direct connection via the KEISEI Skyliner from Narita. The location is excellent, with access to many of Tokyo’s metro lines, close to museums in Ueno Park and Tokyo Skytree. The hotel is about 300 meters from Ueno Station once you learn which exit to use. The rooms are small, but adequate, staff are excellent and very helpful and most speak some English. We especially enjoyed the breakfast, soup, tea, and croissants on demand. Tons of shops and restaurants nearby too. We are returning to Tokyo at the end of our trip and were planning to stay in a different area and hotel, but changed our reservation to return to Hotel Resol Ueno. Because we are flying out of Narita and there’s something about having familiarity with the area. The only thing to mention is that some of the 7-11’s and convenience stores on the edge of the Ameyoko shopping street are a bit sketchy, but if you walk a bit further the other ones are better.
Location is good. Few mins walks to Ueno Station. The staff are friendly and helpful. Complimentary of facial mask, bath salt, tea bags and some pastries at the lobby area. The room is clean but a bit small. Difficult to put two big luggage. But overall is a pleasant stay.
Smooth 7mins walk from keisei ueno station, easy to drag my luggage along the wide pathway. Turn left when u see JR central gate or iriya gate exit once u see Wendy’s kitchen. Room is clean even though they only clean the room on the 5th night of stay for sustainability reason. Towels & bottled water are provided daily. Room is suitable for 1 person stay though its stated for 2pax. Lotsa dining options in the vibrant ‘hood. The Garden supermarket located at UENO JR station sells interesting bentos & snacks. Family mart is 3mins away from hotel. Staff is friendly and speaks good English. Luv the sample size amenities located in the lobby, recommend the drip coffee. Looking forward to staying here again.

“Clean & welcoming”
Stayed a night here during a stopover in Tokyo. Hotel is new, clean and welcoming especially after a long haul flight. It's less than a 5min walk from Ueno station (Asakusa exit). I landed in Narita and caught the Keisei Skyliner directly into Keisei Ueno station. After exiting the gates, follow the signs to get to exit 9 and then to locate the Asakusa exit. Upon entering the hotel I was greeted by Sakura the cute little bot roaming around the lobby. Checkin was quick as I had already prepaid for my room. Rooms are small but well furnished and clean, no musty smell. There's a room and fabric freshener spray provided in the room as well. Due to the space, it may be a slight challenge to open more than one luggage. Bed was firm with comfy pillows - had the best sleep in the entire week considering I was jet lagged. Bathroom came with a bathtub shower combo and the full set of shower toiletries. At the lobby area, you'd be able to help yourself to additional toiletries from toothbrushes, bath salts to face masks. The hotel also offer guests complimentary beverage and refreshments on the 1st floor and ample seating to enjoy your snack. Lovely place and I would definitely be back. Paid around *** for the night, prices seem higher due to the busy Nov period. Plenty of good eats within a short stroll from the hotel.
