We were a group of 6 people with 2 couples. We arrived on Saturday noon to King's Cliff from Bangalore. 3 of us rode our bikes & a car. The staff were extremely generous through our requests all weekend. One of them being a secure space to park our high end bikes. The place has a cozy & calm vibe to it. It takes you back in time ! Every element in this place is very vintage, yet has a contemporary appeal to it. I would urge travelers to opt for their Deluxe room as primary option. The view from the window is mind blowing. Its worth every penny. The restaurant Earl's secret is the best part of this place. There is no better place to step out in Ooty for a grub other than Earl's Secret. Make use of it as much as you can. Had a wonderful weekend & looking forward to return soon.
Cosy Comfortable Colonial Stay”
After every failed attempt to book this property , wherever I visited Ooty ... this time finally got an last minute deal at Agoda. Much anticipation and excitement reached King's cliff. The room provided was standard one which had paint coming off , musty smell and no ventilation . We requested staff to provide a better room , which they did and I am really great full for that . The cottage had amazing view outside the window , cosy fireplace , spacious bathroom , outdoor seating . They also arrange for auto to take my husband to a very good doctor ( as he had a food infection the previous day) . Restaurant serves tasty food in the central hall main building as well as in a glass house in lawn. Food was nice all the time. Breakfast spread was also good. Just one suggestion , you could serve fresh juice instead of a canned one. overall a must experience stay.
Peace and quiet and a colonial feel”
I chose this place based on independent recommendations from 2 different friends. Initially my room was one of the cheapest ‘executive’ rooms, which was a little shabby but had plenty of character, and I was able to access the WiFi. Unfortunately it was next to the kitchen and there was a lot of noise from 7am, and before 10.30pm. I'd been hoping to spend the evening relaxing in my room by the fire, so this was disappointing. When I asked to shift rooms I was offered 30% discount to upgrade to a deluxe room for the remaining 2 nights, in the separate bungalow at the end of the garden. Private veranda with view over the valley, bathroom was much higher spec, decor in good condition. Away from house meant no WiFi, however. Overall I found the staff attentive and friendly, and the front desk staff speak good English. The à la carte food was excellent, and the restaurant itself (Earl’s Secret) appears to have quite a reputation locally. Breakfast buffet was limited although eggs, paratha etc are available on request. Coffee was a disappointment - super-weak Nescafé being the only option in a place of this calibre was puzzling! Staff were happy to bring me endless refills while I sat there until 10am each morning. Having fireplaces in every room is wonderful, maybe even one of the highlights, and actually necessary when it gets cold. I arrived at the start of December on a damp and rainy day and ended up sleeping in my fleece! "Bring warm clothes” is probably general advice for Ooty anyway. Apparently they’ll give you a hot-water bottle if you ask. They don’t have a liquor license because they only have 9 rooms (you need 10), but if you want a drink you can buy beers to take away from the Monarch hotel around the corner. Minor quibbles aside, this is in a great, peaceful location, lovely views (when it’s clear) and the house has a lot of character. Service was fine and food was great. I felt very comfortable and relaxed there, and I would go back again.
Very good to place to stay with loved ones”
My stay at Kings Cliff was wonderful. The timing was right and weather was perfect - October end - just when the chill starts to set in. We stayed for three nights, the room was very comfortable with large size bed, large size bathroom and excellent food. (Try Tandoori Roti & Dal Makhani, Veg Manchow Soup, etc). They also light up the fire place during chill season. View from hotel was also fairly good.
Warm welcome and king style stay”
- Property was nice - Staff was very helpful, we went there with our one and a half year old. He fall sick on third day, staff extended their help in making sure that we are able to take full care of him. They didn't ask to checked until 4 PM next day. - Heard a lot about problem with hot water in Ooty but here that wasn't an issue at all. - Listening to live music in the evenign after a day trip with fire place make your evening.
Calm and Cosy”
Place is calm and away from the crowd, cosy rooms, good food and supportive staff. Loved the fireplace in rooms and restaurant. Heritage hotel for the one who admire antiques. Not for the ones who are inclined to Tech, rooms lacks wi-fi and phone signals are near to no. Place needs to be updated with right directions in Google Maps. Inter-connecting rooms good for same family group but have to be made sound proof. Keep up the good work but meet the shortcomings to satisfy every type of traveller, because people now rely on reviews rather than false Ads. Thank you..
Visited with family. Hotel is far from the bustle of the town and is a British style old bungalow. We stayed in the Garden rooms which were big and well appointed and had working fireplaces. The restaurant had very good food priced a bit on the high side. Service is a little disappointing. For example, the dish arrives without the roti, breakfast with coffee coming much later which they should improve upon. A comfortable stay.
Just like Britain in the 60's”
This hotel has enormous potential but is over managed. For instance, asking a waiter for French Fries instead of Garlic Bread on a menu item involved, first a refusal, secondly a "I'll have to ask the manager" thirdly "The manager says " No"". A request for the manager to come to explain why it was not possible produced a manager who said it was possible after all. The dining room sports a vast multi-cuisine menu so virtually nothing is freshly prepared. Reheated food on unheated plates is not what I expected, though the presentation was immaculate. In our 4 months of traveling in India I had my second attack of "Delhi belly" here. My subsequent request for an omlette for dinner needed the involvement of the Manager, again. Ooty, while we were there was quite cold, the rooms are draughty and heated only by a wood fire in the grate, very attractive but not very hot and completely ineffective in the bathroom. Hot water is available in the morning and on request at 15 minutes notice at any time. This sort of attitude, and the locked bookcase in the lounge reinforce a general feeling that the customers are not trusted or welcome.
Pros: nice location, excellent staff, vintage look, loved the fireplace in every room, food is tasty”
Cons: very limited valet view., Food is expensive, I'm not used to paying 85rs for a small Roti... 😋, rooms terriwf can be little cheaper compared to the modern services provided by other hotels. Just because it's on a nice location with lot of green... Root teriff seems a bit on higher side. But over all a very cozy place... I'll definately visit again with family..
Awesome experience ”
Wonderful hospitality, great ambience, located near the city centre and super awesome food at ‘Earl’s secret’. We recommend the hotel for family stay.
Awesome experience, very beautiful resort and friendly staff”
We stayed just for a night, the staff is very friendly and the property is extremely beautiful and the glass restaurant is unique experience and food is very tasty, had planned for a bday surprise for my husband was perfectly arranged thanks a lot
Excellent hotel and good”
Great hotel to stay, view is jus awesome. Foods are amazing. Hotel staffs were very professional and polite.
Comfortable but cold at night”
Excellent hotel with historical background. Rooms large and well equipped. Restaurant was very good although cold in the evenings.
Not as expected”
I had a very worst booking experience with my first booking through adoda.I had booked for 7 adults and 2 children for a total fare including breakfast but the hotel policy allows only 6 adults. Then why did Agoda charge me extra ? No answer or solution came from thier customer service also. The hotel was also not worth the money.
good property with few negative”
very good property but few nagatives like not ready to run genset after 11pm. paying huge money for every thing but managment dosnt provide diesel ( comment from a staff ). fire places work only after lot of pressure. billing should be taken care. no room heaters provided. food is very very expensive.
Not very happy”
Pro: - The property is not bad. - Most of the staff is very courteous and very helpful. Cons: - Restaurant is expensive and the service is pathetic! We waited for about 45 minutes after ordering and was still not served. We ordered simple roti / sabji ! I had to cancel the order and went in to the town for lunch. Having said that, I was told that a lot of people from outside, come to the hotel for lunch! - Breakfast spread can be improved - At the breakfast, I was taken a back, as the veg and non-veg items were on the same burner (one vessel with three partitions). - There is no running hot water. Hot water is available 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. Even that water is not very hot.
A beautiful experience”
Simply superb!!!! It has a great view and excellent food.
Location is main USP”
Great location, fantastic food, great staff are all pros for this nice place. Victorian ambience is nicely maintained CONS = No amenities/activities at this place, so young kids will get bored. You will need to plan and get out for sight-seeing
heritage type hotel”
poorly maintained room PROSPERO needs some patch up food was awesome , not the Breakfast which was very disappointing. wifi didn't work at all.
