Sham Shui Po is one of Kowloon's commercial hubs, with plenty of wholesale and retail shops. , where many of the garment manufacturers sell directly to the public, is nicknamed Fashion Street and attracts daily hordes of bargain hunters. Sham Shui Po’s famous open-air electronics market, Apliu Street Market, is home to an astounding variety of products.

Shops sell everything from industrial electronics to analog and digital radio communications equipment, from audiophile hi-fi amplifiers to disco effects equipment in various stages of repair. The market on Ki Lung Street is famous for its fresh food and cheap prices, and the area hosts the annual Hong Kong Computer Fair.

Sham Shui Po is an architectural kaleidoscope of new and old. The 2,000 years old Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb and century-old Tin Hau Temple stand next to housing estates built in the 1960s and trendy new shopping malls such as Dragon Center. The area is well-served by public transport. Sham Shui Po MTR station is often crowded due to the glut of shopping opportunities in walking distance of the station.
