Not what I was hoping for in terms of having the Taj name. ”
The location and sorting were beautiful. Lobby, gardens and overall well kept but in room, stained decorative pillows. Mold on the shower door. Can even off with the floor towel. So that did seem very clean to me. I know it's India but the Taj name is supposed to be at high standards but then they required security door entrance and had to photo copy our passports which I didn't understand because my parents are local. So I. Some ways just really felt they violated our trust and then didn't have driver acoomadtions which in India should be available or they should have a recommendation for the family to refer the driver to another local hotel. Because we arrived late and it took an hour to check in, I wasn't able to take advantage of the spa there.
Courteous staff, excellent location”
Great stay - off season trip so staff were very attentive - food was good..(great idlis and dosas for breakfast!)..food otherwise was also not oily or too masala-y. Clean pool. We stayed in a room with a sea facing view - great to sit and watch the sea through the rain! Overall would recommend staying here if you are looking to relax and spoil yourself a little. (We didn't use the spa services)
Great as last time”
Had a wonderful stay here, will be back!
A great relaxing week after touring for 3 weeks!”
A great hotel within 5 mins walk downhill to the beach. North Cliff can be walked to along the beach and up some steep steps and this is where most of the restaurants, busy bars and shops are. Tuc tucs only cost 100Rps to get back - about £1. The pool is huge, warm and has a swim up bar with a great pool attendant/bar man. the hotel restaurant staff were welcoming, polite and very helpful, although sometimes demand on them meant that they sometimes forgot what you had asked for! We didn't use the spa facilities so can't comment on them. The travel agent at the bottom of the footpath to the beach was very helpful in organizing a trip to the Monroe islands and a taxi to the airport at stupid o'clock in the morning!
Great location..Wonderful property..Awesome !!”
Wonderful Experience !!
Not a 5* and not up to taj normal standard.”
Was okay but was disappointed with the hotel for the price compared to other hotels at this price and standard.
Relaxed Holiday Resort”
This resort is more like a small boutique hotel with a great pool & steps leading down to the beach. It has a relaxed atmosphere throughout and staff were very attentive.
I would recommend the The Gateway Hotel”
The gateway Hotel Staff were extremely attentive and very helpful. Varkala is a very beautiful place to visit and the views from the rooms/poolside were worth the journey. Highly recommend this hotel.
We would recommend the Taj Gateway. It is a great hotel for exploring Varkala, and having a luxury resort to base yourself. Its Just a few minutes walk from the beach and restaurants. Everything else is easily accessible by tuktuk. The staff are friendly and resolved any issues that we had. The restaurant staff gave us a perfect last dinner so compliments to the chef!! The room was great with plenty of room, a nice seating area looking out onto the garden. The pool is great and has a poolside bar. Thank you
The best in varkala”
The hospitality shown by the staff and general manager was superb. Room was great with pool and sea view. Beach is nearby and the famous janadhanTemple is on the beach....North cliff is walking distance which is the most happening place in varkala.
Quality with a view”
Overall the stay at the Taj was excellent. Facilities are as you would expect from a Taj hotel, with well equipped rooms and good pool/gym. Breakfast was very plentiful and varied. Staff were extremely attentive and very helpful at organising onward travel. Varkala is a very beautiful place to visit and the views from the rooms/poolside were worth the journey. Highly recommend this hotel.
Pleasant stay but definitely not a 5 star
We had a great time at Varkala. Hotel is close to the beach and local Restaurants. The Backpacker Area with the little village, Bars, Shops and more Restaurant is only 20 Minutes walk away ore 4 Minutes by Tuk Tuk. The Hotel is not new but still in good condition and we had a suite with 2 Rooms. Wireless every where. Breakfast good every day new kind of food, so you could taste a lot of different indian food. the pool hasn't got enough sunchairs and the water is not fresh, but we stayed anyway at the beach
We were greeted very warmly at the hotel with necklaces and lots of smiles however when they placed us in our room we noticed that it smelt very damp and there were lots of mosquitoes there. It was not comfortable at all! We asked to move to another room and the staff did oblige. The new room was better but still smelt a little damp. The positives were that the rooms were large and we were very close to the beach.
Fab Weekend at Varkala”
I planned a weekend at Varkala and chose The Gateway Hotel just by chance. But it turned out to be the best decision. The staff are very good and helpful, the pool is great, the rooms are clean and very well ventilated, the view to the Arabian Sea from the room was mind blowing and above all the resort has a on the move General Manager. A fabulous place to stay. Very Stongly Recommended.
Not worth. Much nicer, cheaper places to stay in the area. This hotel is seriously in need of help! 2 nights were enough for us and couldn't wait to get back to where we'd previously stayed.Damp is the problem. It is easy to see the damp and blistering paint on the white bedroom walls. The smell of moldy damp hits as soon as you enter the room. Even the bedding has this dreadful smell - so it's stored in a damp moldy store-room.32 rooms. 18 sun loungers. Do the maths!Complete silence at the pool - if anyone speaks to their friend/partner they whisper! Bizarre! My husband and I do not recommend.Wouldn't stay again.
Seems to the best in Varkala”
Everything was good except the bathroom, it was small and not cleaned properly
