Disappointing ”
I am with a young child age 5 and looking for an awesome night tent stay. However this is not what I expected. It is very run down and the facilities are very bare basic. Choose something better and pay more will be better in Sri Lanka.

Fun for a night - great food”
Glamping at its best. Great for a night when seeing Udawalawe. Tents are very hot but it's fun nonetheless. Great buffet dinner.

Just stayed for a night”
We just went in, stayed for a night, took the Udawalawe Park tour, got out. One bad taste left in our mouth: We arranged a van to the next town through them. They knew where we were going and the name of the hotel and I gave them phone number too - they called to check location. But 3/4 of the way there the driver tried to negotiate for more money saying that the hotel was past the town. Had to make a major fuss.

A wonderful place to stay to explore the Nat Park”
The food here is excellent and varied, the staff go out of their way to make your stay exceptional, the tents are great, very clean and great fun
We stayed 2 nights in a family tent with our 14, 11 and 3 year old kids and we had the best time. The pool was great for a quick cool off, the staff were wonderful and the food was excellent, I recommend the Sri Lankan buffet for dinner, it was superb. They arranged a safari for us too which was competitively priced, the driver was very knowledgable and added to our experience. It was the highlight of our trip as we got to see so much more than we expected.

Adventurous experience in tented accommodation
One needs to have an adventurous spirit to stay here! While the tented accommodation was basic as expected the tent was in need of repair and the front flap was broken allowing the mosquitos in. Also the heat level was unbearable without AC and to be charged $10 a day for this essential facility was a bit steep. Having been on east African safaris the 'safari' experience in Udawalawa park was tame to say the least and hugely overpriced we only saw 3 elephant but lots of birds and lizards! But the scenery is spectacular. The manager was helpful and nice, but hard to find staff when you needed them. A nice idea but a lot could be done to improve tje facilities - the swimming pool always had a number of dead frogs in it! Got the idea that a lot of money was needed to bring the place up to scratch. We should have stayed one night instead of two.

Had more potential but lacked attention to details”
Location, relaxation area in lobby, tent with aircon
The food was limited with no ala carte options, only offering a western pasta dish for dinner.... There was only one type of tea on offer too. The tent was comfortable enough and spacious though it had not been well maintained with many wet/mould marks on the inner tent fabrics. We did like the porch (shame the mosquito net didn't reach the floor) and the pressure in the shower was surprisingly good with plenty of hot water. Location is very near the park entrance too and the safari they organised was very good, accommodating a last minute decision to go. The guide was also very good at spotting many animals for us. Improvements - offering mosquito Insence coils and spray for the guests, as well as possibly a mosquito net over the bed, as the tent was not mosquito safe. The staff could be better at communicating th the guests. At check out, We were told it was a shame that we didn't decide to take the double tent near the water which was frustrating as we only took the family tent because we were advised there was no other options...

Don't stay here”
I can't think of anything other than it was just up the road from Kalu's where we went for a lovely dinner.
Our first impression of the hotel was deeply muddy entrance and parking area and it was down hill from there. The management obviously stopped maintaining the place years ago and it is way over priced. Our shabbily furnished tent cost $89 per night! There was an air-conditioner in the tent but we were told it would cost an additional $10 a day to use. We had dinner (fish caught that morning and vegetables grown in their garden) at the fabulous and beautifully maintained Kalu's resort down the road which as it happens was the same price for a room that night. We were told that the checkout time at Wild Trails was 10:00 a.m! That is a first for me. There was a pool but no place to sit. Again, don't stay here.

The resort is in need of a major refurbishment and some good management. English was the most used language used during our trip but it was hard to make ourselves understood here!

High class camping with minimal comforts”
Big beds and food.
I feel the hotel is overrated. The price is too high even for high class camping and if you want air-conditioning, which is recommended if you are in the hotel in the afternoon as the heat is unbearable, you have to pay extra. That can definitely be improved upon. The pool is not clean either. Wifi can only be accessed in the lobby.

Good Location to park, but needs improvement”
Location, Concept, Staff
I was more than excited to book Wild Trails from other reviews and photos I had seen. I had never been 'glamping' before and I thought that staying in glorified tents would be awesome. Our stay would have been awesome if it wasn't for a few setbacks. 1) The safari is early in the morning which means you get to lounge around your tent/surroundings for the remainder of the day. it was the HOTTEST I have ever been in my life (I currently live in the Philippines so I know what hot feels like) and there was no airconditioning in our tent. Other tents seemed to have been equipped with a unit but ours wasn't! 2) They have a set bbq dinner for everyone. There is only one option and it seems that they cater to the 'quantity over quality' mentality. I would look elsewhere for dinner. 3) They do not offer cold drinks. Their water/juice were served room temperature which, while we were burning up...did not help cool us off. We had to buy soda that was kept in a fridge. It was our only choice. We spent the remainder of the afternoon in the pool to keep cool. There was no way to stay in the tents in the heat. I think the concept of wild trails is wonderful. They just need to work out the kinks. This hotel has a lot of potential.

Good tented camp”
Friendly staff; close to national park; wild camp ambience
Our stay was great - the kids loved the tents, and the pool (which was much cleaner than in the photos on the website). But we had understood that the tents were air-conditioned, and on arrival were told that we had booked a non a/c tent … and it was very hot, so this was not good news. After speaking to the manager on the phone, and explaining that I had only booked the family tent because I had understood that it was an a/c tent, he agreed to "upgrade" us to the a/c tent (which is exactly the same but with an a/c) … but on checkout I was asked to pay a supplement for the a/c. It was not clear to me that we had booked a non a/c tent, and I would not recommend anyone to stay in a non a/c tent (particularly during the hot monsoon period) … so beware!
