More about Anuradhapura
From the Old Town to the New Town, travelers here will surely find something to discover. The Archaeology Museum and The Folk Museum offer insight into the rich history of the land. These sites are great precursors to grabbing a tuk tuk and exploring the Old Town, where the vast majority of the city’s archaeology can be found. Many of the sites are rooted in Buddhism, from the Bodhi Tree Temple to the 1,600 stone pillars of the Lovamahapaya.
The New Town offers a more compressed area to explore and is the place to go for shopping and dining. Restaurants, snack shops, and a few secluded bars are scattered throughout. If looking for souvenirs, the Old Town sells postcards, carved wooden figurines, replica artifacts, and a number of other items.
