Best hotels & accommodations in Bitung

We stayed with Bastianos 4 nights in April and really enjoyed our stay. It is a high class resort with all comfort included. The food buffet was one of the best in Indo including breakfast. The dive equipment may need some update and the costs for all activities (excursions, massages, dives) are rather at the upper price end of spending niveau in Indonesia.

This place is within 20 min drive from Bitung Kota. I was working at the port and ususally drive to Manado to stay in a decent town. Bitung is a port town and there is no nice hotels. Black Sand was a welcomed alternative to the 1 hour drive to and from Manado daily. Although a dive resort, we were lucky to get 2 rooms there for a couple of nights. The staff is reall...

Black Sand was a welcomed alternative to the 1 hour drive to and from Manado daily. Although a dive resort, we were lucky to get 2 rooms there for a couple of nights. The staff is really friendly and accommodating to our very non-typical requests. I really can't wait to come back to work here so I can stay there again. I squeezed in a dive right off their beach and saw amazing muck creatures.

Lembeh muck dive is personally the best in the world. And the staff at the resort took care of everything for us. Great food and accommodation. Love the fruit. Everyone is friendly and kind hearted. The staff organised a transport for the next day to the port of Bitung and made sure that I choose the right boot :), thank you again for offering this service to me. The Hotel itself is situated in a beautiful tropical garden (really well maintained), away from noisy streets and the hotel has a own viewpoint which allows a great overview. Rooms are new, good beds, basic shower and very clean. The food is local with English translation and delicious. I had a lovely, short stay in Botanica and would recommend a stay in this hotel. So Natasha is wonderful! In her mid-20s she essentially runs the joint, and thank goodness, given her perfect English (and Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese etc). So Natasha is wonderful! In her mid-20s she essentially runs the joint, and thank goodness, given her perfect English (and Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese etc). She is very amicable, and wonderfully accommodating, which really gave my stay a personal touch. The food was delicious, the accommodation great - and far more comfortable that what I had been subjected to in remote Raja Ampat - and above all it was a very pretty location. I would say, though, there is not a great deal to do if you are not diving, eating or relaxing in the hammocks! My one complaint, however, would be the way that Daniel handled my onward taxi transfer. Getting off the boat from the resort, to Bitung, he cancelled my taxi, for his own sister company (who were both present and correct to greet me). This sister taxi company was slightly more expensive, but of more concern was the erratic driving, dirty vehicle and the fact it was shared with the taxi-man and family. It made for a very smelly and uncomfortable experience, and one neither myself, nor the other traveller I shared with, would want to repeat. This was initially an innocent mix up with communication, but given the heated discussions with Daniel and my other taxi man, he ended up leaving, temporarily stranding myself and the other Chinese girl in Bitung. However, as with everything in Indonesia, solutions are just round the corner, and we hired another vehicle pronto. But back to Natasha, we got to Manado eventually, and met her there to finalise payments (note - bring cash in advance to pay, do not rely on credit card), and she was very apologetic re the taxi incident, even though it was not her fault. Then her brother kindly transported us, to our hotel, which they definitely did not need to. So in conclusion, I would definitely recommend the place, all staff are lovely, and particularly Natasha. I am seriously considering going back with my friend, for more fantastic diving in the near future.

Bathroom is large, with some kind of bathtub, shower, outdoor shower. Bath gel was nice, hot water constantly available. Internet was rather fast, and during our stay, there is a blackout but hotel generator instantly took over. The air con, although functioning properly, somewhat not enough for the big room. It's far, even from the nearest city Bitung (20 minutes of going up and down hills). Your only source of food is their restaurant, which, while not bad, not good either. I only spent a day there, and was aware of the situation so I brought food. Dive center and its guides are good. We had a good dive, although Lembeh is not as breath taking as Bunaken. You could also rent a boat and explore, or surf, but they don't provide water sports. The pool is nice, but since the location is semi-cliff, it doesn't have a beach. They also have a spa. So, in summary, due to its location, you just have to relax, swim or dive, or get your self a massage, enjoy the view and read some books... there's nothing outside the hotel.

We stayed in the suite at Lembeh and this was incredibly well equipped with living and sleeping areas separated by an infinity pool which looked out over the Lembeh straits. The dive facilities were very good , and Fred was especially helpful re cameras. He also ran photography courses. The diving in Lembeh straits is amazing. A great resort that I am sure we will return to.

This was the part of our Sulawesi trip that my partner and I splurged on, as we really wanted to go diving at Lembeh Strait and we found a decent deal on agoda. The hotel room was clean and beautifully decorated with all the facilities you could desire. The staff were very helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious, with a buffet or a la carte option for lunch and dinner (note: the prices for the meals were perhaps only slightly cheaper than Australian food pricing, and there aren't really options to eat elsewhere in the village so you need to factor this into your spending). We found the pricing for dives and gear rental here much more expensive than other places in Indonesia, however this seemed to be the case at many dive stays at Lembeh Strait. The diving was absolutely exceptional and the dive and boat crew were amazing. I would definitely recommend this place for accommodation and diving, however if you're on a tight budget keep the above in mind.

Firstly, if you are planning to stay on Lembeh we definitely recommend this place, especially because it is by far the most budget friendly and at the same time well run accomodation and diving on the island. Make sure you align your expectations with the price range though. Perhaps some who haven’t in the past might have been a little dissapointed. They have big building plans for the future though. Bear in mind that the staff might be making a little less salary than in the fancier resorts, so consider tipping them if you found the service to be satisfying. Secondly, some practical information we found out which might help other travellers. Daniels lagoon & Daniels resort are the same place but can at the moment both be found online (on Agoda for example). Natasha (who is Daniels daughter) changed the name and is more in charge of running things with her partner as we have understood. The information describing Daniels lagoon on Agoda at the moment of booking didn’t seem to be very correct though and you should assume the same description as in Daniels resort’s page. Part of the resort is Immanuel’s Divers and this is of the same owner. ACCOMODATION: Getting to the resort on your own by public transport is entirely possible, but depends on how comfortable you feel taking and often changing different means of transport. For the last part of the journey (crossing from Bitung to the resort), they offer a speedboat pick-up and if you are traveling with a lot of (diving) gear this is recommended. The bungalows have everything one needs (a shower, very comfortable bed, a fan and a porch hamock). The food is delicious Indonesian style and varies enough. We didn’t enjoy the fish (bonito) as much as we hoped though, it tasted somewhat dry and not very fresh. There is free drinking water, coffee & tea. DIVING: The diving gear is pretty new and fairly decent quality. Their diveboat is 2 months old and very spacious. We had 2 dive guides (Fery & Vandi) and enjoye

Pros: food included and it's good. Staff are very friendly and lovely. Private location. Cons: expensive for the standard, rooms were dusty and a bit run down. The diving was very expensive also.
