More about Dumaguete

The city of Dumaguete is the provincial capital of Negros Oriental in the Philippines. Serving as the major port of this area and housing a very large population of university students, Dumaguete is a nice and calm place to visit if one is interested in exploring more of the Central Visayas region. The city is served by Sibulan Airport, which operates several domestic and regional flights on a daily basis so getting into and out of the city is easily done.

A large portion of the population in Dumaguete is comprised of students, as the city is a university city. Silliman University, one of the largest universities in town, is also home to the Silliman University Anthropology Museum and the Silliman University Whale Bone Museum. While the anthropology museum houses a large number of Philippine artifacts dating back thousands of years, the whale bone museum is home to one of the largest collections of whale bones found in the world. Both one of these museums would make for a great afternoon spent learning about the history of this region, and there are several hotels within very easy reach of Silliman University to accommodate any need.

Diving enthusiasts will surely use their time in Dumaguete to visit the gorgeous Apo Island, which is home to over 600 species of fish and corals in a beautiful marine sanctuary. Getting to Apo Island is easily done via Dumaguete, which is the island’s only access point. There are several hotels lined along the coastline, within easy boat access of the small island.
